Inverter Air-conditioning• Rising Sales trend of Inverter Airconditioners has observed in

current year / season due to fulfill the consumer needs i.e. – Energy savings is one of the most important factors.– Status quo

• In current year, “Gree” became the most renowned & popular brand in Inverter Air conditioners.

• 15 ~ 20% sales share of Inverter Airconditioners in the total sale of Gree AC’S at yet as claimed by the Gree officials.

• The inverter air conditioning is the latest technology in the HVAC field that is becoming more popular due to its energy savings and environmental friendly approach. Providing comfort to the users is another big advantage of this kind of system.

• So what exactly is this inverter-based air conditioning and how it is different from the existing technology? Let’s examine that:

Inverter Technology : Basic Traditionally, the compressor that is used in an air

conditioning system is an ON or OFF type in which it either works at the maximum capacity or none at all. It ON when the room thermostat calls for cooling and OFF when the desired temperature has been achieved. This cycle is repeated with the change of load in the room.

Inverter A/C’s compressor works with variable speed. In that way compressor only works only at desired power/speed, which means does not have to run on its maximum capacity all the time.

Speed of the compressor can be controlled by controlling the input frequency of the compressor.

Variable frequency can be obtained by a INVERTER.

Inverter Technology : Basic Inverter is an electronic device which converts DC to

AC. The advancement in Solid-State Power Electronics has

enabled the inverter technology to thrive by the use of microcontroller and IGBT modules to drive the compressor DC or AC motor.

Inverter Technology : BasicAn Air Conditioner bearing inverter tag uses a variable frequency drive to control the speed of the motor and thus the compressor. It consumes at least 30% less (it can go to 50% or more) electricity depending on various factors like the outside temperature ,purpose for which the AC is used, Hence it uses less amount of electricity.Inverter is a device which supplies variable frequency of power supply onequipments.

Thanks to this function , motor revolution speed can be controlled and it

Inverter: Long Term BenefitsPotential Electricity Savings :Non inverter Technology Products to Inverter Technology Let’s say a non inverter AC having a rating of 1.5 KW takes 7.0

Amps and an inverter AC having a rating of 2.6 KW (operates between 0.9~3.0 KW) draws 2.8 Amps.

For a smooth 8 hours operation per day the non inverter AC consumes 10 units, while for the same operation an inverter AC consumes 4 units. If we fix the unit price to an average of Rs. 6/unit, a non-inverter AC contributes Rs. 1,800/- per month, while for the same period an Inverter AC has a running cost of Rs.720/- per month giving you flat savings of Rs. 1,080/- per month.

If an Inverter AC costs Rs.100,000/- and for the same rating and cooling a non-inverter AC costs Rs. 65,000/- then payback period for Inverter ACs is merely 3 years.

Energy Efficient Refrigerant• R32 is 10% more energy efficient than conventional refrigerant at the same volume.•Potential of Refrigeration capacity :1.6 times of R410A•Lower pressure loss, when capacity is same, leads to thinner piping diameter.•GWP of R32 is 675, which is 1/3 of that of

conventional refrigerants such as R410A and R22. Also, it can reduce charge volume by about 30% when optimized. All together it can reduce GWP by 75% in total.

Page 14: Inverter Technology in Air Conditioners

Conclusion• The potential of reduction of electricity

consumption by air conditioner is high. Inverter and R32 are the technologies to increase energy efficiency of equipment.

• Inverter technology can increase energy efficiency by 30% compared to non-inverter.

• R32 is 10% more energy efficient than conventional refrigerant at the same volume. GWP (Global Warming Potential) of R32 is 675, which is 1/3 of conventional ones.

• When inverter & R32 refrigerant are applied to high-end model, potential increase of energy efficiency will be significant.
