What is IPT?

IPT (Inverted Pen technology) is a patent pending measuring tool and software for measuring hard to reach points, like points behind obstacles. For this kind of measuring a Proliner 8 or 10, including software version 3.1 is required.

The IPT is mostly used in particular areas where it is quite hard to move the Proliner during a measurement with leap. Using the IPT, a measurement can be made without moving the Proliner.

The IPT pen can be used in combination with the normal pointer. It is even possible to switch from pointer to the IPT during the measurement.

Getting started

The following is needed for measuring with the IPT:

• Prodim Proliner• IPT pen + software license• Remote control• Batteries or power supply• USB stick• Possibly a tripod

1. Before starting a measurement with IPT, the IPT pen needs to be mounted on the Proliner pointer. Depending on the distance of the object to be measured, the complete pen (three parts) or only one or two parts of the IPT pen will be mounted. There are three possibilities: 200 mm, 400 mm or 600 mm.

2. After the IPT pen is mounted on the Proliner pointer, a new project needs to be made on the screen of the Proliner. Give the project a name.

3. Next, select the right IPT length on the Proliner (200 mm, 400 mm or 600 mm). Below the IPT 400 mm has been selected.

To change the measuring pen during measurement, you will first need to create a new contour usingbutton•••.Thenpresssettingsandchangethepensettings.

4. Now the settings are done, the measurement can start. Keep in mind to always move the arm of the Proliner as indicated on the screen.

Button number 2 (••): Collect an IPT point cloud using continuous modeStart/Stop continuous mode: During the continuous mode, move the end of the IPT pen (wire side) around to collect several measuring points. When done, the Proliner will calculate the exact position automatically.

Button number 3 (•••): Make a NEW contour/layerButton ••• is used the same way as with the normal pointer of the Proliner.

Press shortly on button ••• to make a new contour.

Long hold button ••• to make a new layer.

Measuring a point with the IPT1. Place the sharp point of the IPT pen on the point to be measured. 2. Measure using button • or button ••. The options will be explained

below.

Note: When the IPT pen slips during the measurement, the Proliner will disapprove the measured point. When this happens, three beeps will be heard.

Button number 1 (•): Collect an IPT point cloud point-by-pointA point cloud needs to be collected in order to calculate the position of the sharp point of the IPT pen. To collect these points, place the point of the IPT pen on the point to be measured. Press shortly on button •. After this point is collected, move the end (wire side) of the IPT pen to a new position and press again on button •. Continue this

When the collected points are long hold button • to calculate the position of the sharp point of the IPT pen.

Note: The advised measuring method with the IPT pen is measuring with button •• while moving the pen around.

If it is hard to maintain the IPT point position properly during movement, it is sometimes easier to measure point-by-point. In this case, we use the measuring protocol with button • This method is useful on a slippery or very small surface.

3. To measure a certain point, the IPT can be moved in the directions as shown below. Make always a big movement when measuring an IPT cloud.
