Academic Profile
Since 1994 the University of Science has applied credit system, which is conductive to students' time flexibility while requiring students to be more active in their planning and time management.
In order to be awarded a BSc. Degree, a student has to gain 210 credits, of which 90 are in general subjects and 120 in his/her specialized subjects.
From 2008, we made the credit system for BSc programs with 140 credits ( 60 for general subjects and 80 for specialized subjects)
Normally it takes students four years to complete a Bachelor's Degree. The academic year is made up of 2 compulsory semesters and an optional summer semester for uncompleted or ahead-of-schedule courses.

Doctoral Program
PhD. candidates are selected from two sources: BSc. holders who graduated with excellent or very good academic records (average point ≥ 8.0) and MSc. holders. All candidates have to complete 3 credits in specialized subjects. A doctoral dissertation is written in a 3-4 years' time for a BSc. holder and 2-3 years' time for an MSc. holder. The candidate who has successfully defended his/her dissertation in front of a national panel is awarded a PhD. degree.
Current PhD. programs include: Biochemistry, Plant Physiology, Animal Physiology, Microbiology, Ecology, Genetics, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Theoretical and Physical Chemistry, Soil and Water Environment, Environmetal Management, Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematical Analysis, Algebra and Number Theory, Probability and Statistics, Mathematical Optimization, Geometry and Topology, Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, Optics, Electronic Engineering, Atomic Nuclear Physics, Geophysics, Solid State Physics, Oceanology.
The prerequisites for PhD. program admission are an Honor Master's or Bachelor's degree and passing the May admission exams.
Program duration is 2-3 years for an MSc. and 4-5 years for a BSc. during which students must conduct 3 research projects to be published in science journals, and have a PhD. dissertation successfully defended before: an institutional jury panel; then a national jury panel in order to be granted PhD. Degree.
