EMRP – European Metrology Research
ProgrammeThree guiding principles:
• “Together we are stronger”:
− Cooperation: bundling of competence
• “Not everybody needs to do everything”:
− Coordination: definition and development of individual competence profiles,
perhaps concentration on certain areas of specialization
• “Harmonization and Cohesion”:• “Harmonization and Cohesion”:
− Strengthening metrological competence across Europe
• Legal basis: Article 185 Lisbon Treaty
• 200 mio. € by EU, 200 mio. € by metrology institutions
• Last call for proposals in 2013
• Successor programme EMPIR started 2014
EMRP SI Broader Scope
“The 2012 TP SI Broader Scope […] specifically addresses the development
of new advanced techniques for providing traceability of measurement
results to the users of metrology services.”results to the users of metrology services.”

Objectives of JRP SIB60
… to improve the traceability and to reduce the uncertainty of long-distance
metrology and thus to improve the metrological and technological basis of
surveying, geodesy and earth science.
• EDM with U of 10-7 L up to 1km in air
• U of GNSS-based distance meters to 1 mm
• local ties at geodetic fundamental stations:
U reduced to 0.1 mm
• fs-based distance metrology over several hundred metres
• provision of rigorous calibration procedures
The SIB60 „Metrology for long distance
surveying“ project
• X
• unites 15 partners (NMIs, universities)
• expertise in surveying and metrology
• duration 07/2013 – 06/2014
Highlights: EDM in air (WP1)
• outdoor capable measurement heads
• in-situ optical refractivity compensation
see Session III
Highlights: GNSS-based Distance
Measurement (WP2)
• common-clock observations
(single difference level)
• the first 50 cm
• obstruction
• influence of troposphere
• field verification
