Annotation Enhancements
• Select Filter Recognizes differentSubcategories.
• Some Annotation families areSystem Families:– Cut Lines– Stair Path– Stair Tread/Riser Number Tag
• New & Improved Tags– Stair objects (Run, Landing, Support)– Stair (number of risers & treads)
• Equality Formula (Dimensions)
![Page 9: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Stair Paths
• More Flexible– Editable in Stair Sketch Mode– Adjustable Grips
• View Dependent– Cannot Copy/Paste– Place New– Duplicate View with Detailing
![Page 10: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Railing Improvements
• Railing transitions and extensions to top rails and handrails improvements.
• Auto-placement of continuous rail elements.
• Railing can be previewed during sketching.
![Page 11: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Railing parameters
• There are now additional parameters to control railings.
• You can include one or two Handrails – 1 & 2
• Handrails are driven by Type properties, but you can override their type to make local edits.
![Page 12: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Railing family type
• Understanding the family types is essential
• Review the Project Browser to better understand the different families & their structure
![Page 13: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Railing Topology simplified
Continuous Top rail
Handrail 1 or 2 (handrail type
-system)
Support (family)
Termination (family)
![Page 14: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Railing positions
Top rail
Handrail 1
Handrail 2
![Page 15: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Railing Positions
• Be aware of this error!
• In essence you have the same railing TYPE in the same position • You need to create a new railing TYPE for each of the Handrail
parameters 1 & 2
![Page 16: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
The Basic Edit Rail process
• This works for continuous top rail & hand rail
• “Tab” select the rail
• The Edit Rail command becomes available from the Ribbon.
• Choose Edit Rail, to modify the settings of the Rail
• To edit the Rail Path, choose the Edit Path icon, to make further edited
• Further tweaks can be made to the path if required, such as Filleting Joins.
![Page 17: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Category Control
• With the Railing improvements, we now have increased list of railing categories.
![Page 18: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Construction - Transitions• Improved transition, allowing better geometric joins of the rails.
• Simple• None • Gooseneck
![Page 19: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Extension – Extension Style• Potential Extension Styles, possible at the top & bottom of a rail• These work for top rail & hand rails 1 & 2
• Post • Floor• Wall
![Page 20: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Default Joins
• There are two options for Default Joins for railings
• Fillet• Miter
![Page 21: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Default Joins
• Be aware, “IF” your Fillet Radius is too big, fillet join will fail!• In the example below, a 10mm radius causes an error.
![Page 22: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Supports & Terminations• Supports & Terminations are new to Revit 2013• They have their own unique category types• You build a Support or a Termination from a new family template• No obvious template!• Start with a generic model & then select the appropriate
category
• Terminations
• Supports
![Page 23: Introduction to Revit 2013 Stairs & Railing Enhancements Robert Manna | Krista Manna | David Light Stantec | Nelson | HOK](https://reader038.vdocuments.mx/reader038/viewer/2022102908/56649e715503460f94b6ff1a/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Preview Railing
• When placing a railing, there is a new option; if “checked” allows you to preview the railing as you sketch the path.
Enable Preview
