    Announcements

Final weekThe week 9 lectures cover the remainder of Chapter

9, controller design. The chapter 9 homework

assignment concerns the feedback control system of

a forward dc-dc converter. An optional extra credit

problem involves a feedback system that controls the

ac current of a grid-tied solar inverter.

The upcoming assignment due dates are Nov. 6 for

assignment 8 and Nov. 13 for assignment 9.

Certificates will be awarded promptly after the final

    hard deadline.

    Sat 25 Oct 2014 5:00 AM PDT

    Week 8

In this week's lectures, we will complete Chapter 8

    (frequency response and design-oriented analysis)

and begin Chapter 9 (controller design). You should

finish HW#7 this week, and begin HW#8 and the

    optional extra credit assignment.

An additional week will be allowed for completion of

the final two assignments and their associated extra

credit problems. The posting of the solutions will be

    adjusted accordingly.

    Grading policy

Because of recent difficulties with the Coursera

servers, the allocation of late days has now been

extended from five to seven. Please note that this will

extend the hard deadlines as well, so solutions will

    Week 7

This week, we will begin Chapter 8, in which we

employ the converter ac models developed in

Chapter 7 to construct small-signal transfer functions.

Along the way, we will employ some methods of

    design-oriented analysis. The specific assignments

    are:

    1. Complete Homework Assignment #6, covering

Chapter 7, and the optional Ch 7 extra credit

    assignment.

    2. View the posted lectures on Chapter 8

    Week 6

We are now over half way through the Coursera

    course Introduction to Power Electronics.

Congratulations to all of you who are working the

problem sets or watching the videos; the

comprehension exhibited in the assignment and quiz

results appears to be quite good.

This week, we begin the second major topic of the

course: control of switching converters. We will

extend our equivalent circuit modeling of converters

to describe their dynamics and small-signal ac

transfer functions. In upcoming weeks, we will explorethese dynamics and use the models to design control

    systems.

This week, the following new materials have been

    posted:

New lectures on Chapter 7, relating to ac modeling

and frequency response of power converters

New homework and extra credit assignments on Ch 7

    Assignment for Week 5

Chapter 6 covers some of the most well-known

converter circuits and their origins. Transformer-

isolated converters are introduced, including a few of

the most commercially-important circuits and how to

extend our analysis techniques to converters that

    incorporate transformers.

    Hello, and welcome to

    Introduction to Power

    Electronics!

This course will cover the first nine weeks of power

electronics as taught to Seniors in Electrical

Engineering at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Coursera students will experience the full course

material, and may choose to work substantial

homework sets to earn a certificate of completion.

This course will officially begin on Monday,

September 1. Each week will include a set of lectures,

with a homework set due one week later. The first

homework assignment will be due on Sept. 14.

The course staff and I look forward to your

    participation.
