INTRODUCTION

Evaporative cooling is a natural process that is gaining in popularity due to the number of advantages that this type of cooling solution can offer.

It is a natural way of cooling large, open areas at low cost. Energy costs are rising and consideration for the environment is growing and growing. Evaporative cooling (also called bio cooling or adiabatic cooling) is very popular because of the low energy consumption.

An evaporative cooler is maintenance friendly and installation-free (in the case of the portable versions), connect the water or refill the water tank and your customer can instantly enjoy efficient cooling.

Year after year temperatures are rising, companies are concerned about safety and productivity and look for

INTRODUCTION INTO EVAPORATIVE COOLING

HISTORY OF EVAPORATIVE COOLINGThe ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used wet mats (what we could call cooling pads today) to cool indoor air. They hung the mats over the doors of their tents and in front of their windows. The wind blowing through these mats, encourages evaporation of water and cools the air temperature inside.

During the 1500’s the first mechanical fans were built to provide ventilation. In 1800 textile manufacturers in New England began using water evaporative systems to condition the air in their mills. The system consisted of large “cooling towers” with fans that transported the water cooled air inside their buildings.

WHAT IS EVAPORATIVE COOLING?Remember swimming on a hot, dry day, then getting out of water and feeling the chill of the wind hitting your wet skin? Or simply try dipping your finger in a glass of water, then blowing air across your finger and feeling the cool sensation as the water evaporates. That is evaporative cooling.

Try the same thing when there is no wind or no air moving. The surrounding air is quickly saturated with moisture, there is no evaporation and the cooling effect is gone.

Evaporative cooling units create this naturally occurring process and provides a constant flow of cool, refreshing air into a hot, uncomfortable environment.

HOW DOES IT WORK?The heart of the evaporative cooling system is the cooling pad where the water evaporates and the air passing through the pads is cooled.

Evaporative cooling pads are manufactured from fluted cellulose sheets that are glued together. The material is chemically impregnated with special compounds to prevent rot and ensure a long service life and easy maintenance. A special water distribution system spreads water over the cooling pads, ensuring an uniform supply of water to keep the entire surface throroughly wet and maximize highest cooling effect.

Fans create a negative pressure, causing air to be drawn through the pads.

Evaporation results from contact between air and water.

A control system operates the water pump and the fan distributes the cool air in the area.

EVAPORATIVE COOLING AND HUMIDITYA given volume of air at a certain temperature and pressure has the ability to absorb and hold a certain amount of water vapor. If that volume of air contains 50% of the amount of moisture that it is capable of holding, it is said to be at 50% relative humidity.

The hotter the day, the drier the air becomes, and the more cooling that can take place through the evaporation of water. In other words, the cooling effect is best when you need it most.

Our evaporative coolers are developed to also work well in high-humidity environments and will remain much more efficient than a simple fan that just moves warm air around.

Approximately 2% to 5% increase in humidity is produced depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment. This amount of increase in humidity is not noticeable in a ventilated area where the air produced by the unit is exhausted.

Enter in the table with the INCOMING AIR TEMPERATURE and the REALATIVE HUMIDITY and get the theoretical OUTGOING AIR TEMPERATURE Example: Incoming air temperature = 35°C Relative humidity = 30% Outgoing air temperature = 26°C

EVAPORATIVE COOLER VS AIR CONDITIONINGThe operating costs of the Master evaporative cooler are much lower than those of a central air conditioner. The initial equipment cost is also lower than air conditioners. An air conditioner is not practical in industrial environments due to the large volume and often opened doors. Evaporative cooling does not use any gasses or compressors.

Along with lower operating costs and simple installation, evaporative cooling is the perfect ecofriendly alternative to traditional air conditioners.

On average the cost of usage is 10% of a traditional air conditioning system, saving Master’s customers hundreds of euros yearly.

For large, open areas like hangars or workshops with open doors there are no good alternatives. An air conditioner is expensive and can cause health issues like dry throats, a fan does not cool but only moves the hot air around.

Many people use the air conditioning too frequently, increasing energy costs and creating high differences between indoor and outdoor temperatures.

Master evaporative coolers are state of the art. The high efficiency cooling media coupled with a durable

housing design allows Master to cool effectively in very high relative humidity conditions. The portable cooler can easily be moved around in the factories, hangars and workshops for maximum effectiveness, comfort and increased productivity. Due to the mobility it is an ideal spot cooler, cooling where it is most required.

HEAT STRESSClimate conditions on the work floor directly influence the comfort and the results of the professionals. Following a report of REHVA in 2011, the ideal climate conditions are between 23 and 25 degrees Celcius with a humidify of between 45% and 60%. In industrial applications this can be up to 27 degrees.

On many occasions temperatures are higher, for example through the heat process in industry, working with ovens and foundries. There are a lot of hidden costs involved in heat stress, serious problems can occur with increasing risk of accidents at work. The cost of heat is often not well documented in companies. When a person faints due to the heat, it is reported that

a person has fainted but often it is not mentioned that heat stress is the cause.

Heat stress happens when the workers face high temperatures (temperature, air velocity, humidity, sun and other elements that can cause heat). Serious problems can occur when a person suffers heat stress, loss of concentration, dehydration, cramps, dizziness and fainting for example). The human body takes measurements to reduce body temperature, but it is often not enough. Many people in industry do not know how to solve it well.

A traditional Air conditioning system is not the best solution due to the high costs involved in installation and usage. Furthermore it is is not practical in large, open areas.

Our evaporative cooler range offers the right solution of a fresh working environment, with comfortable temperatures for the welfare of the professionals.

With our range the level of productivity can be maintained in safe working environments. Our evaporative coolers offer a balance between humidity and cooling and avoids dramatic temperature differences, benefiting the health of the people.

VENTILATIONFresh, clean air is necessary to provide a comfortable and healthy environment, especially on the work floor to ensure the best working conditions possible.

To ensure healthy air it is fundamental to clean the air and eliminate or reduce concentration of dirt in the air. Ventilating the air, using cool air that is filtered improves the air quality. Like in nature, the fresh air creates a sea breeze effect on the people working.

Master is a global leading manufacturer in providing climate solutions. We have a wide range of portable and fixed coolers that offer the most practical and eco-nomical solution in many applications.

Our coolers are durable, practical, economic and eco-logical in cooling large, open areas like hangars, work-shops and factory halls. As we have a wide range and different solutions, we can offer a custom-made solu-tion. With this custom-made solution you are able to offer a cost-saving alternative for your customers.

On the next pages you will find more information in de-tail on our full evaporative cooler range.

HOW TO READ THE TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON THE COOLERS?Typically what the first thing the customer looks at is the area that the cooler can cool, if they are looking for 600m2, than they first check which options are best to cool that specific area.

Sound level can be important for the hospitality sec-tor as terrace cooler and tank-capacity is important if a customer wants to work with the cooler without a fixed water connection for example at events and during rentals.

Other things that they will look at are the dimensions of the cooler, to see where they can place it and the power consumption of the cooler.

There are many applications where the evaporative coolers can be used. Generally speaking an evaporative cooler is the preferred cooling solution when there are extreme working conditions and when the space to cool is very large and an air conditioner is too expensive or not practical.

The industrial market is the biggest market for the Master evaporative coolers, especially the models covering a large area like the BC180 and BC340 and the fixed coolers.

The European industry has a very large amount of work areas to cool. Comfort, safety (the laws in Europe are getting stricter) and the need to increase productivity is getting more and more important.

We are not only offering solutions for people, animals but also for machinery. Machines that get overheated can fail, lowering the temperature can assure that the system keeps on working and the company saves a lot of money.

In a factory there are often smaller zones that have

APPLICATIONS

INDUSTRY

Cool air stays down and hot air goes up, this means that in factories with different levels, the higher you get, the warmer it becomes.

The BC180 and BC340 are ideal to spot cool specific working areas. If a customer wants to cool the whole area we can offer a custom-made solution with our stationery air coolers. Every degree matters,

every degree that it gets warmer, the concentration and productivity will decrease. The law stipulates extra breaks and different working house when the temperature is too war and there are risks of fines when there is no cooling solution offered that is in line with the regulations and law.

There are a lot of industries where it is always hot, also the summer season, think about glass, steel and plastics industry, where they work with ovens and where temperatures can be extremely hot.

In Europe there are also a lot of factories that are older and are not prepared for the heat. Think for example about the luralite roofs, with a bit of sun, these can get very warm, where the warehouse can feel like an oven.

higher temperatures than the rest of the factory. Reason for these specific hot areas are for example because of the heat of the machinery or production process, or because there are a lot of people working in that specific area. With the portable coolers you are able to spot cool those hot areas.

employees in the car garage.

Car garages have various size from very small to very big, with our range we can supply all garage in need of cool air.

In the race world evaporative cooling is a popular tool to reduce the temperatures in the pit boxes. Due to the portability it is easy to move around and bring from race to race, even on other continents.

Aviation is a sector with a high demand for our cooling solutions. A hangar is very difficult to cool with the high ceilings and open doors. With our portable cooling solutions the customer can spot cool the working areas. It is not necessary to cool the whole area but with some portable coolers they can spot cool and move the coolers to where it is required.

The automotive industry is an important market for us with high demand amongst the car manufacturers and their suppliers (tyre factories, car glass and gear box manufacturers etc.

The car garage is a typical place where the doors are open, where it becomes very hot and that are in cities often are located on the ground floor of a building.

Take a look at the tyre centers where air conditioning is too expensive and with the open doors and windows it is not efficient. A fan is moving only hot air around and the evaporative cooler is the ideal solution to cool the

With the option of ducting cool air, you can even also cool inside planes. Our evaporative coolers are ideal for large, well-ventilated areas but can also be used outdoors. Some armies are using our coolers for outdoor maintenance of their helicopters and airplanes due to by the lack of existence of a hangar.

High temperatures can negatively influence the development of animals or the production (less eggs and milk for example). Every degree of increase can negatively influence the result for the farmer.

Chicken for example do not sweat so when it gets extremely warm they can get sick or even worse. Also they grow less because they do not eat as much because of the heat stress they are facing.

In the military there are many applications where our coolers are used. Due to the durability and practical use we are a preferred supplier of many international armies, to cool the workshops, tents, hangars etc.

MILITARY

There are also a lot of military missions to areas where it can be extremely warm, Africa, Middle East, places where the European armies face other conditions, that require other solutions. As we have many portable solutions, it is easy to transport and apply on those missions.

With our evaporative cooling solutions we can offer an easy and efficient solution to reduce the temperatures to create a comfortable climate inside the stables or chicken houses.

Due to the ventilation of our fans the emissions in cow stables are also reduced.

During events with a lot of people and during hot summer days it can be extremely warm. With our large BC340 you have a cooler that cools more than 300m2 and creates an ideal climate inside and outside the tents.

With our range of small, quiet evaporative coolers we are successful in the HoReCa market. With our coolers sitting on a terrace is much more comfortable. Customers will stay longer and spend more money.

Another advantage is that insects do not like air ventilation so with the Master CCX4.0, BC60 or BC80 your customers will have a practical solution to reduce the number of insects.

TENTS AND EVENTS

HORECA (HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, CATERING)

As our BC340 is easy to use (just connect to water hose) it is the preferred cooler for rental companies, it is mobile and low-energy (no extra energy required at events) so fast and efficient to provide cooling effects.

The coolers can be used indoor (with doors and windows open to guarantee maximum level of ventilation and highest cooling effect) or outdoor. With the louvers you can direct the air-flow and due to the quiet operation and nice looks it is a very popular tool for terrace cooling.

With our evaporative coolers we cannot guarantee a specific temperature, for example 23 degrees maximum. We can guarantee cooling from between 3 and 10 degrees, but it depends on the temperature, humidity and ventilation. Logistics centers that are looking to cool the warehouse for the products or the people have different options in our Master range. Spot cooling to cool the picking area for example. If they require to cool the whole

area or in height, our fixed coolers are the ideal solutions.

In logistics like in our other markets, there are many applications. Trucks can become very hot in the sun and when they want to unload the truck it is almost impossible due to the heat. With one of our smaller spot coolers like the BC60 or BC80 you can cool down the temperature, so the people can easily enter to load or unload the trucks and containers.

There are many other applications or situations where our evaporative ccoolers can be used. Places that are big, open and where an alternative is not available or too expensive.

You can think about places like greenhouses, sport halls,

The installation of Master portable evaporative coolers is extremely easy. You need water and electricity and within moments you can already enjoy the cool air.

QUICK INSTALLATION GUIDE

Define what you want to cool and how. You want to spot cool your colleagues? Check for the best location to place the cooler. The unit is very easy to move around. When finding the best place, think about the air-flow so you will have maximum cooling results.

Always leave some distance between the wall and the pad side of the cooler so fresh air can enter the cooler to give you cool air.

If leaving the cooler on the ground is difficult, you can consider placing the unit at a higher level. However, you need to make sure you have water flow and can easily control the panel. Cool air always flows down so it could be a good alternative in case there is no space

Connect a water hose for continuous water supply. You can also fill the tank and use the cooler for hours without refilling.

STEP 1: DEFINE YOUR IDEAL LOCATION

STEP 2: CONNECT THE WATER

There are three primary considerations when deciding where to place the Master Cooler.

• Fresh Air Supply – The air inlet side of the Master cooler (pad side) must be placed so as to ensure that a maximum amount of fresh air is available to guarantee best cooling effect

• Air Pattern – The cool air coming from the Master Cooler works best when there is a clear area in which to circulate, avoiding as many obstructions as possible

on the floor. If there is no space you can also choose our fixed cooler range as alternative.

• Ventilation (exhausting air) - There should be a defined place in which the air from the Master cooler can be exhausted from the area that is being cooled. This is to prevent recirculating air that has already been through the cooling process.

Page 25: INTRODUCTION TO: MASTER EVAPORATIVE BIO-COOLERS TO COOL · Evaporative cooling units create this naturally occurring process and provides a constant flow of cool, refreshing air into

25

Put the plug in the socket. The cooler is equipped with a single phase connector. Due to the low energy consumption it can be used everywhere. Consumption of our coolers is very low and varies from 280W for the BC60 up to 750W for the BC340 (at highest speed).

Adjust the valve for ideal cooling and humidity conditions. More evaporation more cooling. Sometimes on very humid days you can lower the valve. Our coolers are all installed with variable speed settings, adjust to the speeds that gives you the most comfort and cooling effect.

MASTER COOLERS HAVE NO RISK OF LEGIONELLA. Evaporative coolers have a continual replenishment of water to replace water that is evaporated through the air-cooling process. There is no requirement to chemically treat the water with biocides or other additives, there is a direction within maintenance

• Renew water supply – change the water in the tank weekly

• Regular inspection – regular inspection should be undertaken of the cooling water supply and any recirculation system to ensure there is no

procedures for coolers that are not used for extended periods to be drained and left dry to prevent potential microbial growth. Master evaporate coolers do not mist the air but evaporate the water, no particulates come in the air. The temperature of the water in the tank is cooled due to the evaporation cooling process.

visible evidence of algae or other contamination or obstruction of the water circulation system. Pump system has a filter, so no dirty water will be recirculated and evaporated in the air.

26

DAILY MAINTENANCEThe Master evaporative cooler is very user- and maintenance friendly. It is recommended to shut off the water pump 15 minutes before the fan is switched off. Drying the pads, increase life-span of the pads.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCEOnce a week it is recommended to empty the tank and re-fill with fresh water. All Master coolers have a drain plug to ease this process.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

MONTHLY CLEANING AND END-OF-SEASON STORAGE Drain and clean the water tank. Take the pads out for cleaning with medium high pressure (air or water). Assure that tank and pads are completely dry. Roll up the electrical cord and try to cover the cooler with our (option) cover or with the original box. Turning on the cooler the next season, follow the quick-installation-guide. Master has a special liquid which, added into the water tank, clean the evaporative coolers.

LIMITATIONSAre our evaporative coolers perfect? No they are not, there are some limitations that should be considered.

• We cannot guarantee a specific temperature (cooling depends on external factors like temperature, humidity and ventilation). For example the pharmaceutical industry with guaranteed 20 degrees for certain products it is complicated to achieve due to the changing factors.

• Cannot be used in closed, poorly ventilated environments. Due to the evaporation of water the humidity will increase some per cent, the better the ventilation the less the increase will be. Without

ventilation, humidity will increase

• Our coolers are highly efficient in high-humid environments, however there will be a difference with other situations and customers that have lower humidity conditions. Always remember that our coolers will be more practical than a normal fan and much cheaper than a traditional AC system

• The use of evaporative cooler can be subjective. Even there are many, many advantages there always can be someone that does not like the cooler because it is too noisy, too ugly, too windy, too cool.....

The more experienced and comfortable you are in selling Master evaporative coolers, the more you will see that many of the questions will be the same. There will be questions that are not answered in this document. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any explanation or assistance that can close the project succesfully.

Our coolers are very quiet in operation. Our smallest range has a DB-level of around 60Db and the largest cooler around 66 Decibel.

Water consumption depends on how much water is evaporated and how much cooling is generated. The more evaporation of water (warmer weather / lower humidity) the more it will be consumed. All our coolers have an integrated water tank for hours of operation. With the valve you can modify the water consumption of the cooler.

Master evaporative coolers are very energy-friendly. Our coolers have variable speed In our range our BC60 has a consumption of 250W and our biggest cooler BC340 has a consumption of 750W. This means that the maximum cost for the biggest cooler is around 1 euro per day only

Our Master Coolers do not run any risk on legionella. Ourcoolers evaporate water, water is moving around at verylow temperature and it is constantly moving. It is importantto follow the manual regarding the maintenance forgeneral hygiene but risk on legionella is not existing forevaporative coolers of this type. www.mcsworld.com/Legionella

Check page 28 for some selling strategies. Always keep in mind that our team of experts is available in supporting you getting the best deal for you and your customer.

Our Master evaporative coolers cool down the temperature on average between 3 and 10 degrees in Europe. How much it cools depends on external factors, like the temperature, humidity and available ventilation. The higher the temperatures, the more it will cool. The lower the humidity, the more water our coolers can evaporate and the more ventilation the better it will work.

When a customer enquires to check for cooling options. There are some first questions to ask:

• What do they want to cool? People, products, machines?

• How big is the area that they are trying to cool?

• Do they want to cool the factory? If yes - check for more information to be able to offer our stationary coolers

• They want to spot cool? Try to get more information on the specific areas

Ideally you get in front of the customer (when it is an interesting prospect) with one of the coolers (the bigger the better for the impact in case of a large factory).

When you are in front of the customer with a cooler, many people will be interested to see how it works and what the effect will be.

Even after a successful demo there might be some doubts. What can they really expect in terms of cooling? Is your contact person prepared to take the “risk”?

You can always count on the expertise of your Master-team, we have material available and a lot of experience in promoting our coolers and finding the custom-made solution for each customer. Try to gather as much as information possible and we are pleased to assist.

There are some concepts to overcome those objections and increase the success of the project. The coolers are the ones that need to sell themselves, they are top quality, at a good investment and with high efficiency. Trust the cooler and your customer will be convinced.

OPTION A: Free demo, depending on the customer and the size of the project, you can offer a free cooler for testing. That way they can move the cooler around, define the right model, locations and quantities for example.

OPTION B:

Short-term rental, offer a rental option (if your company has the structure to offer rental), for example 2 weeks 500 euro for the BC340. That way they can test it and already make an investment. Investment will be discounted with final purchase / rental.

OPTION C: Long term rental, a long term rental gives the customer the chance to test the cooler during a longer period. Another advantage of rental is accounting, for accounting purposes it is easier to rent (not on the balance) than to hire.

A rental can be offered with option to purchase. For example: Rental of the BC340 for 250 euro per week during 10 weeks (2500 euro) and 500 euro to purchase the cooler. Other models, terms and time can be applied based on each requirement. Important to work with a rental price higher than your total cost. In case the cooler is returned after the rental, no money has been lost and it can be used for demo’s, rentals or special offers.

DISADVANTAGE OF THESE OPTIONS:If a customer (it is very likely that he likes the solution) decides to return the cooler, the cooler will not be new again. It requires second-hand coolers for these purposes or an investment (calculated RISK as it will be beneficial).

For the rental / demo you can also partner with a rental company that offers our coolers. They are specialized in rental operations and can assist you convincing the customer.

If the cooler is inside with the customer you loose the control on the cooler, customer needs to be prepared well so the test will give the result that we are looking for (training on operation).

For fixed coolers you could use a portable version so they can see what effect we can generate with our coolers.

PRACTICAL CASE ON HOW TO SELL THE MASTER COOLERS

Potential customer: “I work with steel products, I cannot have any humidity in the environment to avoid oxidation”.

Solution:

Our evaporative coolers evaporate water, the humidity will increase between 2% and 5% depending on environment. To avoid humidity in the environment, there are some things you can do.

• Increase ventilation (open doors and windows). The more ventilation the less humidity increase will take place

• Install a humimeter, with a humimeter you can adjust the water level of the cooler to required level

• We often speak about spot cooling with portable coolers. This means that of a total area just a part will be cooled, there will be a big area over where the air will be moved, humidity effect will not be as high.

Potential customer: “I am afraid for legionella because it runs on water”.

Solution:

Our Master Coolers do not run any risk on legionella. Our coolers evaporate water, water is moving around at very low temperature and it is constantly moving. It is important to follow the manual regarding the maintenance for general hygiene but risk on legionella is not existing for evaporative coolers of this type.

Potential customer: “Your coolers are too noisy”.

Solution:

Sound is subjective, for every person the same sound can be interpreted differently. In our main markets like industry and automotive, sound does not play an important role.

More important is the cooling effect. Our cooler are variable so speed can be modified to reduce speed and sound. The smaller our coolers, the lower the sound level.

What is more important? Enjoy cool air or have some sound?

Potential customer: “The air-flow is bothering me and I am afraid I get a cold”.

Solution:

Same as with sound, in a factory hall, there can always be someone that complains on the air-flow. Most of our coolers have louvers, so you can direct the air-pattern. Other solutions are to lift the cooler to a higher place to ensure the air does not face the people directly (cool air always comes down, so cooling is guaranteed).

Potential customer: “Your solution is too expensive”.

Solution:

Cost of installation and ownership are limited, so it is an economical solution in usage. There are a lot of hidden costs on heat stress, companies save a lot of money as safety and productivity improve.
