Library Really Basics…

SMH Library:• Ground Floor, Annexe• 1 qualified librarian• 0 admin staff• 9am to 5pm (closed

1.30-2.30)

SVUH Library:• First Floor, ERC• 2 qualified librarians• 1 part-time admin

staff• 9.30am to 5.30pm• 3 late openings Oct-

June til 9pm (Tues, Wed, Thurs)

Library Basics

• There are Libraries on two sites – SMH & SVUH

• Both available to staff/students in SVHG

• Each has its own print collection, searchable via one combined catalogue. Items can be loaned from either site by registered members

• Electronic collection is combined

SVUH Library

• SVUH Library is networked to UCD so access to UCD electronic resources are available in the Library via the site:– http://librarysearch.ucd.ie

• For anyone with a laptop, there is also a WiFi connection to UCD

• All SVHG staff and

Accessing SVHG e-resources in the Hospital

What is Athens?

• An electronic access management system – provides a “back door” to subscribed resources from a remote location

• Allows librarian to control who uses their resources

• Protects publishers from unauthorised use of their products

• Only provides access to the content your library has subscribed to

• Not every publisher has signed up to it (e.g. UpToDate)
