Hazardous areas have traditionally been the domain of fuel storage and mining locations. With the development of commercial projects housing Petrol Oil and Lubricants and or significant paint storage, hazardous areas are becoming part of many organisations.

This workshop is designed as an introductory understanding for those persons who have not had exposure to, or wish to further their fundamental understanding of hazardous areas.

Introduction to Hazardous Areas

This workshop is designed as an introductory understanding for those persons who have not had exposure to, or wish to further their fundamental understanding of hazardous areas. Workshop facilitator mr Andrew maunder will discuss the types of hazardous areas, including base information needed to understand classification reports and hazardous area zoning drawings, why these are important and where they might be found, differing approaches to classification, and the application of Australian and International standards.

Flammable gases, vapours and liquids along with combustible dusts will all be covered, including some areas that generally are not considered as hazardous areas. other issues to be reviewed include factors such as ventilation, process conditions and the interaction between potential release points. participants will undertake a practical exercise in classification to illustrate and understand the main principles involved.

At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees will have been provided the background and understanding to place them in a better position to understand hazardous area reports and apply the findings in the selection of equipment for use in hazardous areas.

Topics covered include:• History of hazardous areas in Australia
