The stori.es platform is developed by Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports. Consumers Union was founded in 1936 to combat deceptive advertising practices, and today we continue to work for "a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers." We work on consumer protection legislation around the country and at the federal level, and have years of experience collecting and utilizing stories from our activists. We use stori.es to identify ideal storytellers who can share their personal experience with journalists, elected officials, and others who may have had similar experiences. Communicating storytellers' personal experiences through the media, with lawmakers, and to other consumers in an organized, sustainable way has helped us achieve a range of legislative and marketplace victories from safer hospitals to simpler credit card contracts.
