  • NEWSTARTERSWELCOMEBusiness in the first quarter of 2019 has

continued to be strong and we are pleased

to hear that you continue to enjoy high

    demand for your JCB machines.

    Our industry continues to demonstrate

great resilience to political uncertainty as

we just get on with the high level of work

that we have. Thank you for continuing

to invest in JCB equipment, parts and

servicing in order to do so.

As always, we have lots to tell you about

new products. Building on the success

of the all new 220 X SERIES tracked

excavator, we are now delighted to be

able to tell you about the next models

    in the X SERIES.

The 131X, 140X and 150X join the already

highly acclaimed 220X in the all new JCB

    excavator range.

Your Gunn JCB salesman will be delighted

to tell you more about these products

and to demonstrate the performance and

durability that these new machines deliver.

At the smaller end of the scale, we have

the new, all electric 19C-1E. A full day’s

work from a single charge and the full

    performance of a diesel excavator.

We have some great offers on machines,

some special servicing packages and some

competitive finance to make sure that we

can tailor the right deal for you.

The Gunn JCB team will work closely

with you to keep you going through what

promises to be more busy times ahead.

    Paul Hartshorn

CHANGES TO THE SALES TEAMGareth Baxendale switched to a newly

created position in our Construction sales

team in April. He originally joined Gunn

JCB back in August 2017 as Industrial

Salesman and has done a great job for us

with the industrial range of products. He’s

now looking forward to selling the full range

of machines in his patch which includes

Liverpool, the Wirral and part of Cheshire.

Prior to working at Gunn JCB, Gareth

worked at the Malcolm Group for ten years

where he progressed from Forklift Driver to

Warehouse Manager. In 2013, Gareth started

his career in material handling sales, working

as a Sales Manager for Cooper Materials

Handling (part of the Cooper Handling

Group) and progressed to the position of

    Nationwide Dealer Manager. Congratulations

to Gareth on his new role from the team

    at Gunn JCB.

Kieron brings with him a wealth of experience from within the materials handling industry and is focusing on selling the JCB Teletruk range and

our aftermarket solutions in the northern part of our territory.

A fully qualified motor mechanic by trade he joined Windsor Materials Handling in 2008 as a Field Service Engineer and quickly went on to

become a stand-in Service Manager for twelve months. In 2010, Kieron joined Global Materials Handling as a Field Service Engineer / Team Leader

    for four years prior to trying his hand in sales;

initially as Sales Executive responsible for

new business development. He then became

Sales Manager responsible for a team of

    five ultimately growing the company’s

    market share.

Kieron is pleased to be selling the JCB Teletruk

    range, including the new electric Teletruk;

“I am delighted to join Gunn JCB and to

be working with arguably one of the best

    industrial, construction and agricultural

UK manufacturers around. I am looking

forward to selling the JCB Teletruk

including the brand new electric version.

Everyone I have met at Gunn JCB and

JCB seem to be really helpful and

knowledgeable and I am excited to be

    part of a great company.”

The whole team at Gunn JCB extends

    a warm welcome to Kieron.

Gareth’s move to construction sales created a gap in our industrial sales team which was filled by Kieron Belshaw who was appointed as Industrial Sales Manager in April.

  • OUT AND ABOUTWITH GUNN JCBBack in December last year, we entertained 33 customers at a ‘Masters

of Waste’ day at JCB Headquarters to highlight the dedicated range of

    waste machines that we offer.

David Banks, General Manager (Waste & Recycling Sector) at JCB,

delivered a presentation in the theatre at JCB’s VIP Visitors Centre

which focused on Gunn JCB and JCB waste machines. This was

followed by a talk from Ben Sellers, Territory Manager at JCB Finance

who covered the range of finance options available.

Our guests enjoyed a visit to the popular ‘Story of JCB’, an interactive

exhibition that guides guests through the history of JCB. Following

a tour of the Loadall telescopic handler production line and a well

-deserved lunch, customers visited Kevin Quarry for an action packed

    demonstration of JCB waste machines.

We have been exceptionally busy over the last six months attending and running shows to showcase the latest machines in our range.

MASTERS OF WASTE DAY, 4TH DECEMBER 2018

    DIG DAY, 23RD MARCH

Trips to the JCB factory are always very popular with customers and our visit during April was no different. With a bias towards the excavator

range, the day included a tour of JCB Heavy Products in Uttoxter and ended with demonstrations at Kevin Quarry.

JCB HQ CUSTOMER VISIT, 17TH APRIL

Our annual outing to the Staffordshire County Show was once again a

great success. We retained stand 33 (thanks to its excellent location next

to the main ring) where a wide range of attractions took place over the

course of the two days, including a motorcycle display team, livestock

    parades and show jumping.

The Gunn JCB display included the brand new 140X excavator and

19C-1E electric mini excavator which generated significance. They were

complemented by: a range of mini excavators, a JCB Hydradig with a

Steelwrist tiltrotator, 406 compact wheel loader, 3CX backhoe loader,

    7T-1 Hi-Viz dumper and a G40RS generator. A limited edition HTD5

dumpster with Union Jack branding patriotically drew the crowds to

our busy stand. We took multiple requests for machine demonstrations

    – in particular for the new 140X. Visitors were able to sit in the cab to

experience the outstanding levels of comfort thanks to its industry-leading

Grammer seat with wide, adjustable arm rests and 145° recline. The

new 19C-1E electric mini excavator with features such as the fast charge

option, allowing a full charge in 2.5 hours and the lack of electrical power

connection during operation, attracted great interest too.

    STAFFORDSHIRE COUNTY SHOW, 29TH & 30TH MAY

Show season continued in June with the Aberystwyth and Ceridigion County Show taking

place on Saturday 8th June at Caeau Gelli Angharad. This annual agricultural show never

disappoints and events on the day included livestock shows, trade stands and produce.

Plus, of course, our stand with a 16C-1, 19C-1, 8026, 51R-1 and two HTD5 dumpsters on

display. Wrapped in the Union Jack flag and the flag of Wales respectively, the two dumpsters

looked very patriotic and striking and we received a number of enquiries for them, as well as

for our mini and midi excavators.

ABERYSTWYTH & CEREDIGION COUNTY SHOW, 8TH JUNEThe best laid plans for our dig days in Wales were somewhat thwarted

due to localised flooding in Caernarfon; resulting in the cancellation of

our first Dig Day there on Saturday 16th March. However, the rain

didn’t stop play for our second Dig Day which thankfully went ahead on

Saturday 23rd March in Dolgellau. We were even blessed with sunny,

warm and dry conditions. With a large range of excavators on display

    including the: 15C-1, 18Z-1, 19C-1, 8026 CTS, 51R-1, 86C-1 and

100C-1 from our mini and mid ranges, plus the newly launched 14

tonne JZ141 excavator and a range of attachments, the day didn’t

disappoint. Customers were given the opportunity to operate machines

to get a feel for the durability, controllability and stability for themselves.

Our operator challenges are always popular and included a lifting game,

where the operators had to slot pieces together and a painting

competition where participants had to draw ‘JCB’ in the fastest time. The winners - Rino Perruzza from WPS Logistics Ltd and Michael Pritchard

from Maddox Contractors, completed the tasks in an impressive 54 and 35 seconds respectively. We received enquiries and demo requests for

the full range of machines and our current offer on JCB Trackmaster rubber tracks also generated a lot of interest.

  • JCB TELETRUKGOES ELECTRICHot on the heels of the introduction of a new electric mini excavator, JCB has introduced similar technology to its unique, forward reach,

counterbalance industrial forklift. The JCB Teletruk range has previously been offered with diesel and LP gas-powered engines and used mostly

    in outdoor applications.

With the launch of the new electric model, the JCB 30-19E Teletruk, it now becomes suited for a wealth of tasks inside buildings as well as outside

    – offering a new generation of customers the cost and space saving advantages enjoyed by users over the past two decades.

Power is provided by an 80-volt lead acid battery which can work a full eight hour shift on a single charge. The battery compartment is positioned

at the rear of the truck and has been designed to allow quick and easy battery changeover. Using a single point hoist or another lift truck, the

battery can be swapped in around 2 minutes, ensuring truck uptime is maximised.

The new Teletruk can climb a 21% gradient or ramp and productivity is further enhanced with a full free lift of 1575mm as standard. Like all

Teletruk models, the JCB 30-19E features a side-mounted boom and using the telescopic forward reach, it has a lift capacity of 1,900kg at 2m

meaning palletised loads can be loaded to the far side of a curtainsided trailer or a 1,600kg load can be placed 3m into a van. The machine can

load three euro pallets into a van within two minutes.

Available on machines ordered by 30.09.2019. UK business users only. Terms apply.

    ZERO EMISSIONSMINI MAKES COMPANY HISTORY

OVER 3 YEARS ON JCB ELECTRIC TELETRUK

JCB launched its first ever electric excavator at the Executive Hire Show in 2019. It is not only the quietest machine in the range

but also delivers zero emissions. The brand new JCB 19C-1 E-TEC mini excavator was developed in top secret at JCB’s World Headquarters in

Staffordshire and will be available to customers later in the year. It forms part of a drive towards lower emissions and will allow contractors to work inside

buildings and in emissions-sensitive inner city environments. It will also allow rail contractors to operate in tunnels and underground, without having to

install costly exhaust extraction equipment. External noise, at 7dBA lower, is a massive five times quieter than its traditional diesel powered counterpart and

means contractors can work after normal hours in urban streets without disturbing residents, as well as operating in other noise sensitive environments

including hospitals and schools. There is no compromise on digging performance with the fully charged electric machine capable of putting in a full shift in

normal operation. Also, with no daily checks of coolant and engine oil levels required, the machine is off to work quicker than its diesel counterpart.

    KEY FEATURES:

    • Three lithium-ion battery packs provide a 312Ah (15kWh) storage capacity

    • A standard load-sensing hydraulic system delivers powerful digging performance

    • Convenient on-board charger with 230V input for 6-hour recharging capability

    • The option for 110V charging when required

    • Sophisticated battery management system ensures full-shift availability

    • Fast charge option on launch allows a full charge in 2.5 hours

    • 48V electrical system

  • One of our customers, Liverpool City Council, took delivery of their striking new G200QS generator in March. The unit will be used as a

standby generator for the Cunard building (next to the Liver building) in Liverpool in the event of a power outage.

The Cunard building is a Grade II* listed building so we were tasked to make sure that the generator blended in with the granite block work.

We designed a wrap that provided the perfect disguise for the unit and the accompanying vertical fuel tank. A custom-made black steel top

cover was supplied to cover the two separate parts; effectively disguising them as one unit as per our client’s brief.

We were fortunate to work with a local supplier, Uttoxeter-based Tuffa Tanks, who made a custom fuel tank with a very quick turnaround.

Heritage conservation rules precluded the use of the standard fuel tank that would normally be supplied with the G200QS. Our partnership

with Tuffa Tanks enabled us to the deliver a unit with an alternative routing for the main power cables.

Our engineers installed lighting inside and outside of the generator to assist when work is being carried out and the unit features JCB LiveLink

as standard. This will enable Liverpool City Council to monitor essential operational data to manage the health of their generator. To minimise

disruption to the council, the whole installation took a total of 5 hours from making the work area safe, to lifting it into place and commissioning

    the set.

We think the bespoke wrap is the perfect disguise!

PLANT HIRE UKPLACES ORDER FOR ALMOST £17 MILLIONPlant Hire UK, one of our largest and long-standing customers, is investing in a new fleet of JCB machines including 300 JCB Loadall telehandlers

and 50 JCB compact excavators, plus a number of site dumpers and tandem rollers. The machines, worth almost £17 million, will be put to work

by contractors on construction and civil engineering projects across the country and will add to Plant Hire UK’s vast fleet of JCB machines.

Plant Hire UK’s Managing Director, Graham Jones, said: “As the construction sector goes from strength to strength, this investment in

new JCB machinery ensures our customers are guaranteed the highest specification machines with outstanding safety features

    and telematics support as standard.”

Pictured (left to right) are: Yvette Henshall-Bell, Graham Jones and Paul Hartshorn - managing

directors of JCB, Plant Hire UK and Gunn JCB respectively.

Our Managing Director, Paul Hartshorn said:

“Plant Hire UK is one of our largest and

    most successful customers. Gunn JCB

depots are perfectly located to support

    the ever-growing number of machines

as Plant Hire UK has continued to

    invest in its fleet.”

Plant Hire UK was founded in 2005 by

    Managing Director Graham Jones and

Finance Director Wayne Illidge. Based in

St Helens, Merseyside, it has a national

    customer base, hiring, maintaining and

    servicing thousands of machines on

    sites across the UK.

    IT’S A WRAP!

WHC HIRE SERVICESSWITCHES TO E-TECOne of our customers, WHC Hire Services, has a mixed fleet of JCB machines that are rented from the company’s three depots in Worcester,

Tewkesbury and Oxfordshire. The company has recently purchased 7 of the new 140X tracked excavators as well as a range of 30 compact

excavators. Hot on the heels of this large order, WHC Hire Services has now also taken delivery of its first JCB 19C-1E mini excavator.

The industry’s first fully electric machine, it was previewed last year and

launched at the Executive Hire Show earlier this year and is currently

attracting a lot of attention thanks to its zero emissions output at the

point of use and exceptionally low noise levels. The machine can do

a full day’s work on a single charge and is ideal for working in city

centres and at night time; minimising disturbance and pollution.

James Clutterbuck, Managing Director of WHC Hire Services, prides

himself and his business on its innovative and ecological credentials

and is trialling the machine with a number of customers who are

    interested in reducing their own environmental footprint;

“We think our customers will really see the benefit of the

new JCB electric machine. Not only are we working towards

a greener environment but also a reduction in noise pollution,

which can be a real issue in the construction and utility market.

WHC always likes to be at the forefront of innovation and this

was the perfect opportunity. We have a long-standing

relationship with Gunn JCB who continue to provide us with

excellent customer service and back up when we need it.”

  • ANNUAL INVESTMENT ALLOWANCE (AIA)The announcement by the Chancellor in the last budget of a temporary increase in the

Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) from £200,000 to £1,000,000 has come as good news

for customers thinking of purchasing JCB machines over the next 18 months. The increase is

scheduled to revert back to £200,000 on 1st January 2021.

The enhanced AIA is available for capital expenditure on plant, machinery and commercial

vehicles (not cars) purchased from now until 31st December 2020. This is an important tax

incentive which accelerates the tax relief so that 100% of eligible expenditure can be offset

against taxable profits in the first year instead of taking up to 12 years to reclaim 90% of the

original costs using the normal 18% annual writing down allowance. In effect, this enables

businesses to save £1 in taxable profits for every £1 spent. The net benefit will depend on the

rate of income tax or corporation tax that your business pays. It is the equivalent of a subsidy to

encourage businesses to invest in plant and machinery.

We always have a selection of finance offers on selected machinery. When combined with the new AIA, it really does make sense to invest in machinery this year. All offers are available on orders placed by 30.09.2019 via Gunn JCB. UK business users only. Terms apply.

To view all of our offers, visit www.gunn-jcb.com/offers

Capital expenditure via a Hire Purchase (HP) agreement is also eligible and enables a terrific cash flow advantage. Potentially, your business could

gain up to £1,000,000 in tax relief after only having paid a deposit and the interest charge is also 100% tax deductible. All businesses can claim the

AIA – the only exceptions are Mixed Partnerships or Trusts (i.e those in which a company is a member).

Timing is critical and the chart below illustrates maximum amounts available by showing four different financial year end companies and how vital it

is to spend the right amount within the right periods in order to maximise tax benefits. Always seek advice from your accountant or tax advisor as

    every business’ circumstances are different.

WINNERWE HAVE AOne of our customers Mr R J Edwards, Owner of R J Edwards Agri Contractors, was the lucky

winner of a recent JCB Lubricants campaign which netted him an amazing prize of £3,000

    worth of holiday vouchers.

The promotion ran from 1st October 2018 to 31st December 2018 with customers spending

over a certain amount being entered into a prize draw. The greater the spend, the more entries

to the prize draw each customer gained.

We’re delighted that Mr Edwards was the worthy winner. He has been a customer of ours for

many years and has always bought genuine JCB parts and lubricants because he truly sees the

    benefit of buying genuine JCB.

Stuart Hilditch and Nick Newman from our Shrewsbury depot took Mr Edwards to the JCB

VIP Visitors Centre where he was presented with the holiday vouchers by Harry Tinson from

JCB. A visit to the ‘Story of JCB’, plus a tour of the Loadall production line and lunch at the VIP

Visitors Centre were also part of the day.

    Congratulations to Mr Edwards!
