We are a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization based in Krakow (Poland)

We have been enabling citizen action for environmental protection at the local level in Poland since 1991.


OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve the quality of life in Poland by promoting sustainable development in every day living – in the home, at work and during recreation.

Engage with local community leaders in order to diagnose and deal with environmental problems in order to:

• increase access to tasty, healthy and local food

• promote environmentally-friendly transportation solutions

• reduce negative environmental impacts of our workplace, recreation and home (school, office, factury, house, hotel, beach etc…)

New initiatives


MALOPOLSKA LOCAL PRODUCT We are building a local food system in Malopolska based on a collaboration with 10 regions of origin of local products as a means of increasing the quality of life in participating regions and contributing to sustainable development:

▫ We organise & support small local food producers

▫ We develop distribution channels for local products, building their competitiveness based on the heritage values of their regions of origin

▫ We assure quality and authenticity of products sold (certification systems for quality and traceability)

▫ Re-investment of financial surpluses generated on conservation of natural, cultural and landscape values of the regions of orgin of local products, so as to increase their value in the marketplace.

LEGALISE LOCAL FOOD Social campaign aimed at introducing legal changes, which would allow Poles to legally buy processed local food products directly from farmers and small producers.

The goal is to bring about changes in the law to simplify and bring together in one place regulations relating to the production and sale of local food directly from the producer. In collaboration with the Malopolska Agricultural Chamber and the Agriculture Dept. of the Malopolska Regional Government, we have:

• Prepared a listing of desired legal changes

• Initiated awareness-raising of law-makers (Parliament & Senate) and local governments

• Generated public support through a petition

• Started a media campaign

SCHOOLS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Engaging children & youth, teachers and school communities in practical action aimed at helping schools become living examples of sustainable development and gain international recognition through the Eco-Schools scheme. Over 1000 schools across Poland are now participating.

Support for schools in attaining Eco-School status (Green Flag certification)

Schools seeking out electronic waste – an educational campaign to help schools to collect electronic waste

Promoting energy-saving and other environmental solutions in the school.

Support for schools-based mobility initiatives (environmentally-friendly travel to school).

MOBILE KRAKOW A campaign to promote more environmentally-friendly travel to school and work in Cracow and surrounding areas in order to improve air quality. The campaign inspires, encourages and supports:

▫ those travelling in Cracow to use more environmentally-friendly modes, including bicycles, public transport and hybrid/electric vehicles,

▫ students in Cracow schools to establish school coalitions for promoting/enabling more environmentally-friendly travel to school,

▫ employers in preparing and implementing mobility plans, in order to develop and realize sustainable transport solutions with employees and suppliers.

The Campaign is to be replicated in other Polish cities.

ECO-BUILDING Social campaign based on environmental investments of the Foundation and its partners:

In 2013/14, in collaboration with the Local Government of Stryszow and the Gosciniec 4 Zywiolow Association, the Foundation is retrofitting an old school (Stryszow, Malopolska) in order to establish a Kitchen Incubator for supporting local farmers in increasing quality and variety of local food products

The building project is to provide an inspiration to those interested in applying environmental solutions and monitoring resource use (by means of the CO2 building calculator and data-base of environmental products and services)

In coming years, approx. 3000 schools will be closed in rural areas – the Stryszow example shows how school buildings can be brought back into use as centres for supporting local enterprise
