Introducing Anterograde Amnesia

Anterograde amnesia is a loss of the ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long-term memories from before the event remain intact. There is quite often no such recovery and patients are left with a permanent and debilitating condition.

How The Movie Relates● According to the movie, after lucy

was involved in a car accident, she was known to be suffering from Goldfeild.(Goldfeild is a fiction

name of the specific form of Anterogade anmesia.)

● This cause her to lose all of her memory on the day of the accident

and anyday there after, any memory before her accident she still has, thus why she relives the

same day over and over again

Page 5: Introducing anterograde amnesia

Due to her circumstances,

lucy is unable to convert her

short term memory into her

long term memory during

her sleep, therefore she is

unable to recognize any

person she has met after the

accident

● The accident damaged her temprolobe, more specifically her hippocampus region.

● This area of the brain is crucial in forming new memories.

● There is no treatment or prevention known for Anterograde Amnesia

● One difference from the movie and from real life patients with Anterograde Amnesia is that with how servere this condition really is to a patient, all patients with this type of amnesia are actually kept in a hospital or a cre giver facility, the reason being that with them not being able to remeber their days after they happen, if something drasticly changes in the world or even to the patient, as they get older and look in the mirror, this can be very dramatic and scary for the patient.
