• What can you say about the industry?

Use Statistics book

Grand Theft Auto V pulled in $800 million in sales in its first 24 hours

• The Avengers was the fastest film in history to hit $1 billion—19 days into its run.

• In fact, both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Avatar hit $1 billion in the same amount of time, but each film had a wider release than The Avengers.

• In other words, Grand Theft Auto V not only hit $1 billion in sales faster than the fastest-grossing video game, it beat the three biggest film launches of all time by 16 days.

UK

• The UK industry is the third largest in the World in terms of developer success and sales of hardware and software by country alone but fourth behind Canada in terms of people employed.

• The UK is home to some of the world's most successful video game franchises, such as Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto, Fable, Colin McRae Dirt and Total War.

• Before the tax relief was introduced (2012) there was a fear that the UK games industry could fall behind other leading game industries around the world such as France and Canada

• Overview published by Rockstar Games and developed by subsidiary companies. The first games were developed by Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design) and BMG Interactive (a subsidiary of BMG Records).

• Action-adventure, open world, crime, role-playing • The games allow the player to take on the role of a criminal in a big city, typically

an individual who rises through the ranks of organised crime through the course of the game. Various missions are set for completion by the figureheads of the city underworld, generally criminal, which must be completed to progress through the storyline. Assassinations, and other crimes feature regularly, but occasionally taxi driving, firefighting, pimping, street racing, or learning to fly fixed-wing aircraft are also involved as alternate adventures, which can be done at any time during the game, with the exception of the periods performing main missions.

• The Grand Theft Auto series - free-roaming video games called "sandbox games," grants a large amount of freedom to the player in deciding what to do and how to do it through multiple methods of transport and weapons. Unlike most traditional action games, which are structured as a single track series of levels with linear gameplay, in GTA the player can determine the missions they want to undertake, and their relationships with various characters are changed based on these choices.
