What is Blackboard Collaborate?

How Schools Use It

"In addition to using Blackboard Collaborate as a professional development tool, there are limitless possibilities for using Blackboard Collaborate to promote cross-curricular projects between schools across grade levels. One example is 6th grade social studies students would conduct research using a digital tool and create a digital project and present rough drafts to 11th grade students using Blackboard Collaborate. In turn, the 11th grade students would promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility by using Blackboard Collaborate to interact with the presentations and provide feedback prior to project completion. This project also highlights an example of how Blackboard Collaborate would be used to strengthen and build a greater sense of community across our school district." - James E. Your Own Classroom

If you are interested in hosting a session, a personalized classroom will be created for you. You will then receive an email with the following information.


Getting Started

You will be prompted to download a file with a JNLP extension. Locate the file and run it (by clicking or double clicking, depending on the browser).


Allowing Access

Please allow any access that it needs in order to run properly.


Connection Speed

Choose your connection speed (LAN - Lovett; home - DSL/Cable).


Session Recording

Choose whether or not you would like to record the session.


Inviting ParticipantsClick on Session, Invite New Participants . . . Press Copy Link and paste it in an email to your students.

When students click on your email link, they will be directed to the screen below.

Once students click on the downloaded file, these dialogue boxes will appear.

Students should agree to the Session Participant Agreement.

Students should choose the appropriate connection speed.


Getting Started

If needed, you can make others moderators by control clicking on the participant and clicking on Give Moderator Privilege.
