ITINERARY... Day 1 Arrive Sorrento Explore ancient sites,
discover idyllic islands and soak up views of spectacular coastlines
on this exciting southern Italy family adventure. Start by getting
acquainted with the enchanting seaside town of Sorrento and
learn where to find the best pizza and gelati in town. Days 2-7
Sorrento/Pompeii/Paestum/Capri Step into a living history
book on a visit to Pompeii. Frozen in time when Mt Vesuvius
erupted in 79AD, this ancient site provides an incredible snapshot
of what life was like in a prosperous Roman town. Why not choose
to scale the slopes of Mt Vesuvius for stunning vistas across the Bay
of Naples? In free time, perhaps set sail along the beautiful Amalfi
Coast. Stop off at one of the picturesque coastal villages and get
lost in the labyrinth of cobblestone laneways that snake up the
mountainside. Meet the most pampered buffalos in the world at
an agriturismo farm in Paestum. Taste delicious buffalo mozzarella
cheese and learn how it’s produced. Board a hydrofoil to the island
of Capri, with its lush sub-tropical gradens and cliffs plunging
into the sea. Weather permitting, take a boat to the island’s most
famous feature, the glistening Blue Grotto. Once sightseeing is
done, take a seat in the Piazza Umberto where adults can sample
the local speciality, limoncello (lemon liqueur). Take an optional
excursion to Herculaneum for another look at Roman life as it
was before Vesuvius erupted, then learn how to perfect pizza and
pasta in an interactive cooking class. Day 8 Depart Sorrento Say
“arrivederci” to this Italian escapade.
ITINERARY... Day 1 Arrive Mairena Arrive in this picturesque
village perched above the Mediterranean coast. Settle into the
traditionally restored guesthouse which will be home for the next
week. Surrounded by cultivated terraces and ancient waterways,
this is authentic Spanish-living at its best. Take a leisurely stroll to
adjust to the slower pace of life. Explore the cultivated terraces,
follow the ancient waterways and admire the beautiful simplicity
of the village. In the evenings, enjoy family dinners on the terrace
under the stars or by the cosy log fire. Days 2-7 Mairena Have
fun exploring this sun-drenched region - with an exciting array of
optional activities on offer, no time will be wasted. Spend a day
on a local farm and lend a hand with fruit picking or planting, or
perhaps admire local crafts and try basket weaving. Make the most
of the fresh produce available in the area by tasting local cheeses
or learning to whip up paella in a cooking class. Kids will get a kick
out of riding donkeys and helping milk goats, while parents will
love sampling award-winning wines at an organic vineyard. More
adventurous families may wish to take a guided hike to the peak
of El Morro, or go mountain biking or horse riding. There is also
the opportunity to take day trips to Granada or the stunning Cabo
de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, famous for its flamingos and stunning,
wild beaches and cliffs. After working up an appetite with days
full of exploration and adventure, return to the rustic comforts of
the guesthouse. Day 8 Depart Mairena Hit the road and leave
Mairena with a mind full of magical memories.
ITINERARY... Day 1 Arrive Inari Begin this adventure in the
picturesque village of Inari. Days 2-4 Inari Experience a magical
winter wonderland in this icy corner of the world. Begin the
morning with a huge Finnish breakfast to prepare for a big day
of snow-filled activities. Try kick-sledging, cross-country skiing or
tobogganing - there is something fun for all members of the family.
Venture deeper into the wilderness on an optional snowmobile
trip, where there is the chance to learn the secrets of ice-fishing,
dash across the flat expanse of frozen Lake Inari, visit a local craft
market to learn about traditional Sami handicrafts and, fingers
crossed, catch a glimpse of the famous luminosity of the Northern
Lights. For a thrilling ride, why not take the opportunity to visit
a husky camp and be pulled across the ice at high-speed by a
team of huskies? Here, the whole family can learn how to ‘mush
mush’ the husky team, while watching spectacular, snow-capped
scenery whizz by. There is the chance to visit a wild animal park
en route and learn about the Arctic fox, polecat and Arctic rabbit,
before warming up with a cup of hot berry juice around an open
fire. Visit the Sami Museum and discover the history and culture of
the indigenous people of this region. Travel by snowmobile and
sledges to track reindeer herds through pine forests and open
fields, and perhaps take the opportunity to feed them. Back in
the village, it’s time for more family fun in the snow or perhaps a
relaxing steam in the steaming sauna. Day 5 Depart Inari Soak
up the charms of Inari one last time before the frosty fun ends.
ITINERARY... Day 1 Arrive Dubrovnik Welcome to the ‘Pearl
of the Adriatic’. Wander the city walls for a bird’s-eye view of the
historic Old Town, then why not soak up the lively atmosphere
of this special place with a stroll along Placa, the pedestrian
promenade? Days 2-6 Dubrovnik Staying in the idyllic village
of Mlini, just south of the city, provides the perfect base to explore
the hidden treasures of Dubrovnik and its surrounds. Paddle a sea
kayak past the magnificent city walls en route to the lush island of
Lokrum. This beautiful nature reserve has many sea caves where
the water is an irridescent blue. The next day, saddle up for a bike
ride through the scenic valleys and vineyards of the Konavle region.
There’s an opportunity for a spot of wine tasting for the adults,
while the kids can feast on tasty dried figs. Follow the winding
serpentine path to the top of Mt Srdj for stunning views over the
city and out across the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Let the family decide
how to spend free time. Why not cross the border on a day trip to
see the Ottoman town of Mostar in Bosnia? Here, it is also possible
to explore an old Turkish house, visit a mosque, or wander through
the colourful bazaar. For the more adventurous, take the family
rafting back in Croatia. Alternatively, choose to get off the beaten
track and explore the countryside around Dubrovnik. Stop off
at Molunat for a leisurely swim at the beach, before heading on
to Ljuta for a village lunch. Day 7 Depart Dubrovnik Farewell
new friends and the charming city of Dubrovnik, as this relaxing
Croatian journey comes to an end.
