Kenya Wildlife Adventure
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Nairobi The journey begins in Kenya’s
multicultural capital. Get to know this modern city with its colourful
markets and atmospheric bars. Day 2 Lake Nakuru Pitch tents
alongside glistening Lake Nakuru then head out on an afternoon
game drive. Fringed by acacia trees, the lake is transformed into a
shimmering pink haze as hundreds of flamingos descend upon it.
Keep an eye out for other wildlife - the savanna area also boasts a
wide variety of animals including giraffes and lions. Days 3-4 Lake
Naivasha Encounter friendly locals on a village visit, then discover
Lake Naivasha - a birdwatchers’ paradise with floating islands of
papyrus reeds. Camp by the lake and explore this beautiful area
independently. Day 5 Loita hills Travel across the Great Rift Valley
floor to Loita Hills, right in the heart of Maasai country. Tonight,
camp among these friendly, semi-nomadic tribespeople and learn
about their ancient culture from a local elder. Perhaps pick up a
local recipe while sharing a campfire meal. Days 6-7 Masai Mara
National Reserve Help the Maasai milk their cattle before tackling
the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve: a huge area of
woodlands and open plains backed by the striking Esoit Oloololo
Escarpment. Safaris through the park might reveal prides of lions,
herds of elephants and perhaps even a stealthy cheetah. In the
rainy season, this area is flooded by over a million wildebeest on
their annual migration. Day 8 Nairobi Hit the road and leave the
open expanses of the African bush behind. Travel through Maasai
farmlands on the journey back to the urban jungle of Nairobi.
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Nairobi Enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere
and buzzing streets of Nairobi. Day 2 Aberdare National Park
Head out on an exciting game drive and keep watch for lions,
elephants, leopards, baboons, hyenas, monkeys and the mysterious
African golden cat - a rare species that lives a solitary existence.
Days 3-4 Samburu National Reserve Home to a variety of
Kenya’s nomadic tribes, the Samburu region is a sanctuary for
zebras, giraffes, gerenuks and a plethora of bird species. Journey
out into the park to see these graceful creatures and, with luck,
proud lions and cunning leopards too. Days 5-7 Mt Kenya/Ol
Pejeta Conservancy Rise early and travel through spectacular
scenery on a ride towards the edge of the Samburu National
Reserve. Meet brightly dressed and accessorised tribal people and
learn about the traditions and customs that shape their daily lives.
Visit the innovative not-for-profit Ol Pejeta Conservancy. From
cheeky chimpanzees to graceful gazelles, it is teeming with exotic
wildlife and is also the largest sanctuary for black rhinos in East
Africa - so take the rare chance to view these endangered creatures.
After some amazing wildlife encounters, stop by a local market and
see the art of traditional wool-spinning in action. Take an excursion
to the famed Mau Mau Caves and, with the help of a guide, learn
about survival techniques, herbal medicine and forest foods.
Spend nights sleeping near magnificent Mt Kenya. Day 8 Nairobi
Farewell the wild plains of Africa and drive back to Kenya’s thriving
capital where this incredible wildlife adventure ends.

Mt Kilimanjaro TrekkingThe Climb
Just three degrees south of the equator is the 5,896 m/19,340 ft high, permanently snow-capped
Mt Kilimanjaro - Africa’s highest mountain. This stunning peak offers one of the world’s best
opportunities to climb at high altitude without the need of technical climbing ability. Any
normally fit, healthy person prepared to push themselves both physically and mentally should
be able to complete the ascent to the crater rim and then on to Uhuru Peak, the ‘Roof of Africa’.
While the destination remains the same, there are two options to get there:
Marangu Route
This five-day climb is the most popular and direct Mt Kilimanjaro route, and the only one serviced
by mountain huts to offer protection from the elements. Although it can be busy, the route is well
maintained and makes for a breathtaking hike to the summit. Trek through vast grasslands, pass
giant cacti and discover alpine meadows set against a background of mountain peaks. As with all
Kili hikes, prepare yourself for an early morning, adrenaline-filled final walk to Uhuru Peak.
Machame Route
This six-day climb is the most popular of the camping routes and follows gradually rising paths
through dense forests and moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. From here the trek continues
beneath the glaciated precipices of Kibo’s south face, providing striking views of the southern
icefields. Diverse vegetation lines the pathways, making it one of the most scenic of all the Mt
Kilimanjaro routes. Camp out at night, enjoy the scenery and feel the exhilaration of achievement
while marvelling at the views from the top.
Porter's Policy…
On our Mt Kilimanjaro climbs we employ porters to help carry baggage and equipment. We
believe that local people should benefit from our travels, which is why we have a Porter’s Policy
to ensure that working conditions and wages are kept fair. Our full policy, covering loads, wages,
accommodation, clothing and medical care can be viewed at: intrepidtravel.com/porters

Gorilla Express
Experience Rwanda
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Kampala Use free time in Uganda’s capital
to visit markets, museums and shops. If time permits, choose to
wander Kabaka’s Trail - a community initiative established to give
visitors an insight into the history, customs and culture of Uganda.
Days 2-3 Queen Elizabeth National Park Leave modernity
behind and journey into the wilds of Uganda. Game drives
through Queen Elizabeth National Park offer opportunities to spot
elephants, lions, buffaloes, antelopes and leopards. A boat cruise
along the Kazinga Channel reveals pelicans, eagles, crocodiles and
hippos living in coexistence. Bird life is also prolific here so keep
watch for storks, fish eagles and other water birds. At night, camp
under a night sky filled with stars. Days 4-6 Gorilla Trek The
dense jungle of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of
the last remaining sanctuaries for endangered mountain gorillas.
Trek through tough, wet terrain with an experienced local tracker
and be transfixed by the noble beauty of these gentle creatures.
Watch the gorillas interact with each other and marvel at the
behavioural similarities between this species and that of humans.
Other wildlife such as colobus monkeys, frogs, chimpanzees and
jackals also thrive in this ecosystem - so keep eyes peeled during
this challenging yet memorable trek. In down time, enjoy visits
to nearby villages or leisurely walks through the forest. Day 7
Mbarara Spend an afternoon exploring this town or perhaps find
a local football match to watch. Day 8 Kampala Drive back to
Kampala via the peaceful shores of Lake Victoria.
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Kigali The attractive capital of Rwanda
is a great place to explore on foot. In free time, head out the
markets or sit in a café. Days 2-3 Nyungwe National Park
To gain understanding of recent Rwandan history, visit the
Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre - dedicated to those who lost
their lives in the tragic events of 1994. Afterwards, journey to
Nyungwe National Park, home to an abundance of primate species
including monkeys, chimpanzees and baboons. Walk through
the mountainous rainforest terrain in search of blue, golden and
vervet monkeys, as well as other mammals, insects, birds and
amphibians. In the evening, stay in a simple lodge located right
in the heart of this national park. Days 4-5 Lake Kivu Enjoy the
cooler temperatures by chilling out on the peaceful shores of
Lake Kivu. In free time, try fishing, go boating or simply relax and
take in the incredible views. Days 6-7 Gorilla Trek Enter pristine
wilderness and embark on a quest to find rare mountain gorillas,
an endangered species on the brink of extinction. With the help of
a knowledgeable guide, climb up steep passes and through dense
forest to discover these gentle creatures living and playing in their
forest sanctuary. The combination of strenuous trekking through
muddy terrain in a humid atmosphere is quite a challenge, but the
rewards are definitely worth it. At night, rest weary legs and enjoy
the warm hospitality of friendly locals on a homestay. Day 8 Kigali
Journey back to Kigali where this amazing adventure ends. Why
not farewell Rwanda with a celebratory dinner?

Masai Mara Walk
Lake Nakuru Camping
Ngorongoro Lodge Safari
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Nairobi/Masai Mara National Park Travel
from the vibrant city of Nairobi across the Great Rift Valley. Along
the way, look for colourfully dressed and accessorised Maasai
people tending to their herds. On arrival, take a guided walk to
nearby salt licks that are frequented by local wildlife. Day 2 Masai
Mara National Park After an early breakfast, take a wander
around the area, then head out on an exciting game drive. The
Masai Mara has a very high population of plains animals such as
wildebeest and zebras, which in turn are preyed upon by lions,
leopards and hyenas. Elephants are also a fairly common sight here
while hippos and crocodiles are plentiful in the Mara River. After a
full day of wildlife spotting return to camp in time for a delicious
dinner. Day 3 Masai Mara National Park/Nairobi Travel back
to Nairobi where the adventure comes to an end.
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Nairobi/Lake Nakuru Depart Nairobi early
and travel to Lake Nakuru National Park. Take in views of the Great
Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha and Elementaita along the way. Arrive
at the camp in time for lunch. Afterwards, enter the Lake Nakuru
National Park for an afternoon filled with wildlife spotting. The lake
is famous for its visiting flocks of flamingos, as well as pelicans,
cormorants and several hundred other species. Land animals
are also well-represented here, with the presence of waterbucks,
Rothschild’s giraffes and zebras. The park has worked hard in recent
years to increase its population of both black and white rhinos and,
with luck, some may be sighted on the game drives. Day 2 Lake
Nakuru/Nairobi After breakfast embark on a walk through the
village surrounding the camp and gain an insight into local life,
then transfer back to Nairobi where the adventure ends.
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Arusha/Ngorongoro Crater Transfer
from Arusha to Ngorongoro, stopping along the way at the small
village of Mto Wa Mbu. Mingle with locals at the village’s market,
then enjoy a delicious home-cooked Tanzanian lunch. Enjoy free
time to explore this village a little more before continuing on to
the Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the night at a lodge on the crater’s
rim. Day 2 Ngorongoro Crater/Arusha After an early breakfast
descend to the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is the remains
of an ancient volcano and its walls are home to a remarkable
concentration of wildlife. Over 30,000 animals live here including
lions, leopards, elephants, impala, zebras, hippos and endangered
black rhinos. Spend time searching them out on an exciting game

Nairobi Crafts & Markets
Lamu Beach Break
Mt Kenya
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Arrive Nairobi Start the explorations of
vibrant Nairobi with a visit to markets in the city and Westlands
area. Mingle with residents shopping for fresh produce and search
out a bargain or two at the numerous craft and souvenir shops.
Also visit the open-air mobile markets scattered through the
city. Day 2 Nairobi After breakfast it’s time to gain an insight
into Kenyan culture and view some of the country’s best craft
markets. Visit Kazuri Beads, a workshop providing employment
to single mothers. Depending on the day of the week, there may
be an opportunity to tour the factory. From there, take a short
drive to Utamaduni Craft Centre, which houses shops filled with
African crafts, from antiques to wood carvings and jewellery, to
bronze items, glassware and cloth. Return to the city centre in the
afternoon where this short break comes to an end.
iTiNERARY... Day 1 Arrive Lamu Journey to the slow-paced
island paradise of Lamu. Sitting off the coast in the Indian Ocean
and steeped in Swahili culture, Lamu is the perfect spot to enjoy
salty sea breezes, fresh seafood and ornate architecture. Days 2-3
Lamu house A guided walk of Lamu’s old town reveals traditional
architectural gems, markets full of fresh produce and talented
craftspeople at work. There are no cars on the island, so use free
time in the afternoon to explore further by foot or donkey. With
pristine waters, white sand and warm temperatures, swimming
and snorkelling are highly recommended. If relaxation is in order,
why not book in for a Swahili massage or have your hands and feet
decorated with henna? Day 4 Depart Lamu To make the most
of the morning, perhaps enjoy a dip in the pool or the warm ocean
before departing enchanting Lamu.
iTiNERARY... Days 1-2 Nairobi/Mt Kenya Leave behind the
city bustle to travel through scenic farmlands. Enjoy a hike through
a village and learn about the people who live on these mountain
slopes. Visit the Mau Mau Caves on a guided walk and learn about
forest foods, herbal medicines and survival techniques. Day 3
Giant Bamboo Camp Look for lively monkeys and birds of vivid
shades while walking through towering bamboo. Day 4 highland
Castle Be challenged by steeper terrain while trekking through
forests of cedar on the way to sheer lava cliffs. Day 5 Shipton's
Camp Enjoy stunning views of volcanic peaks and glaciers. Day 6
hall Tarns Rise early to see an amber sunrise from the summit of
Mt Kenya before returning to Hall Tarns. Days 7-8 Meru/Nairobi
Take in magnificent views of snowy peaks and lava flows on the
