Welcome to Interplas 2011There has been a lot of unrest in the UK’s plastics exhibition arenarecently with many rumours, much indecision, and worst of all adivided industry. Hopefully this prospectus will set the record straight, answer your questions and motivate you to lend your support to what isone of the oldest plastics exhibitions in the world, Interplas.

Many in the plastics community already know the new organisers,Rapid News, through our plastics titles such as EPPM, British Plastics& Rubber, and MEP. We know this market well and enjoy what we do,so taking over the management of Interplas was a natural fit into ourmedia portfolio.

We strongly believe that we can turn your exhibition around — not to“the good old days,” because times have changed — but we believewe can reinvent Interplas and help it evolve into a fantastic event. Mostimportantly, we will help Interplas showcase to the world that the UK’splastics processing industry is alive and well and that there is goodreason for doing business here!

You might have noticed the new strap line, “The International Forum forthe British Plastics Industry,” which is key in the growth of the event.Interplas 2011 will host many new initiatives aimed at promoting theBritish plastics expertise, stimulating both imports and exports. At theheart of the show visitors will find the “British Centre of Excellence”pavilion that will showcase some of the finest products moulded orextruded in the UK. Supported by the key associations, this focal pointwill be marketed heavily overseas to visitors interested in working with,or learning from, the UK’s plastic processing community.

Most importantly, Interplas now has unlimited access to one of themost powerful British plastics databases — the readers of BP&R. Nostone will be left unturned in the marketing of the UK’s show to theBritish plastic community to ensure the tri-annual event returns togrowth through proper representation from all sectors of thecommunity!

We hope to see you there.

So, What’s New?Rapid News Communications has a history in staging great events for manufacturing such asMM Live (mirco manufacturing & micro moulding) and TCT Live (new product developmenttechniques, design in plastics, etc). These two manufacturing events have actually grown year-on-year in both visitor and exhibitor numbers... even in 2009! Why? Because we focus on the visitorexperience — something for everyone: live training, live machine demonstrations, job creationprogrammes, apprentice initiatives, etc. In other words, an event worth visiting!

Couple this expertise with our marketing power, in print and online, and you can see why theindustry is looking forward to Interplas 2011, especially at a time when manufacturing in the UK isforecast to be growing again!

The Heart of Interplas2011All visitors will be encouraged to pay a visit to the new “British Centre Of Excellence” featurezone, located in the very heart of the exhibition. Here some of Britain’s finest end products willbe paraded, demonstrating the UK’s expertise in this area of manufacturing. This includesmoulded, extruded, thermoformed... any plastic part manufactured in volume in the UK.

In the centre of this 400 sqm pavilion visitors will also find the key associations on hand tohelp with all sorts of import/export enquiries.

The UK has considerable knowledge and history in the plastics market — as this pavilion willdemonstrate. Both suppliers and processors can use the centre as a meeting point, a focalpoint to their visit, and as a reminder that their industry is alive and prospering!

Multiple Seminar Theatres

Manufacturers have just come out of avery trying time and — more than everbefore — need help with training, education and fresh ideas on how to maketheir operations more profitable, efficient, competitive and technologically savvy.

Rapid News will be staging more verticaland horizontal plastics processingseminars than ever before and marketingthe “free-to-attend” programmes via all ofits plastics and specialist manufacturingtitles.

In true ‘Rapid News style’, revenues fromthe event will be reinvested into theatrebuild and hosting costs to ensuremaximum quality and visitor experience.

Seminar streams will include:

• Plastic Design Intelligence• SME Business Logistics & Management• Environmental Legislations• Vertical streams including Medical,

Automotive, Food Packaging and Building sectors

Supported by The Polymer Society (IOM3), BPF, and the SPE, the “Plastic Design Intelligence”programme (PDI) will maximise productivity for designer engineers.

The PDI is an initiative supported by the TCT magazine, which has over 10,000‘material specifying’ designers subscribing. Each one will receive a PDI packdetailing what’s on and where to go, including a bespoke floorplan of all materialand special effect suppliers.

The PDI programme Includes:• A dedicated “Plastic Design Intelligence” seminar theatre chaired by the

relevant associations• Special PDI name-board markers for all material and design exhibitors• Extensive independent marketing campaign with the design press

“Rapid Granulator AB have worked in partnership with EPPM and Rapid News forover ten years and welcomed the news that Interplas 2011 will be run by RapidNews. With strong links into the plastics industry, I believe that interplas will bere-energised by Rapid News. We look forward with working with them in 2011.”Bengt Rimark, Rapid Group.

“With the organisers of Interplas and Rapid News now combining their marketstrengths, the opportunity in 2011 to get back to the relatively heady ‘Interplas days’when Interplas was the only meaningful British/Irish and semi-International PlasticsExhibition that was presented to the audience on a very practical three-year rotation. There is now every possibility that the good old ‘Interplas days’ will soon make areturn to better compete on the international exhibition stage.” Andy Jewell, Mattec

“Interplas has always been the No. 1 show synonymous with the UK plasticsindustry from its fledgling days in the 50s through the massive growth of the 70s tothe boom of the 80s and 90s to the decline in the noughties. However, even in 2011if you have a new product or process, Interplas is still the No. 1 place to showcaseto bring it to the attention of everyone that matters.” Colin Taylor, Uniloy Milacron

“Exhibitions are an important focal point of every industry. Whilst there has beensubstantial change within the UK plastics sector there is a clear requirement for acentrally located event that covers the full spectrum of our industry. Interplas hasthe capability to deliver what is required; collocation with other relevant exhibitionswill ensure that the broader requirement of visitors is fully served. The involvementof both BP&R and EPPM will ensure both that appropriate audience is made awareof the benefit of participation and that Interplas is an exhibition that fully reflects theneeds of our industry”Mike Boswell, Plastribution

“Trade shows provide immense networking opportunities and Interplas is one of themost highly regarded throughout our industry.” Nigel Batt, Matrix Plastics

“It’s good to see a company with the major event management experience as RapidNews Communications bringing the UK Plastics industry together. The UKdesperately needs a forum where all elements of the industry can come together toshowcase it’s collective talents.” Tony Wood, Perrite

“We have exhibited at Interplas for many years and consider Interplas to be the mainforum for reaching customers within the UK and Ireland. We welcome the recentannouncement of Rapid News taking the reins of Interplas and believe this will havea positive impact on the next event in 2011” Mike Bate, Krauss Maffei

“With the current climate, exhibitions and Interplas seem a long way away, but 2011will soon arrive. What the UK plastics industry needs is one good quality exhibitionthat does not clash with the K show, and that covers a much broader spectrum ofthe polymer industry than ever before; I’d like to see Interplas grow into a show thatencompassed the best of PDM and Interplas, bringing designers, and manufacturerstogether to see the full range of services available in UK industry from conceptthrough to mass production; encompassing everything from rapid prototyping, mould making to volume production equipment, making it once again a show thatcouldn’t be missed. If the Rapid News team can pull that off, it would be a majorboost for UK manufacturing in our sector” Steve Lacey, Sandretto UK

“We have been to every Interplas since we formed our business in 1998. It wasinstrumental to our business development in our early days and continues to be inour ongoing marketing plans. Historically, Interplas has been our most successfulUK exhibition.” John Hardwick, Intouch Monitoring

“We are looking forward to being able to participate in some way at Interplas 2011,although this is nearly 2 years away, lots of things in the UK plastics industry arebound to happen between now and then in a positive way I am sure. We take thisopportunity to wish Rapid News the best and hope with new management anddirection Interplas will be back on everybody’s exhibition calendar from then on.” Kevin Horne, Renmar Ltd
