Two-component L'Oreal CLUBE to be revealed at Interpack Plasticum

A one-piece bi-injection molded tube with integrated closure and In-Mould-Label. The injection molding process in combination with innovative tooling techniques releases the constraints of the extrusion process that is commonly used for the manufacturing of tubes. The CLUBE production is undeniably challenging and was first exposed at the K 2010 in Düsseldorf. The market was amazed by this ambitious technology and the advantages the new packaging concept offers, such as up to 40% material savings.

Convenience continues to be a key factor in consumer purchasing decisions, making packaging that is easy to open and facilitates preparation and consumption essential to brand success. It’s no secret that a large segment of the population find glass jars challenging to open. Some time ago Iwrote about this problem in my article “The Irritation of the Glass Jar Screw Cap” and the Brazilian solution, called ‘Abre-Fácil’. And now in its booth Crown Closures Europe shows a new revolutionary closure that will make jars easy to open for everyone. Food processors can now improve the openability ofglass jars with the new Orbit Closure. The innovative technology is making its debut in the market on jars of Duerr’s range of jams and marmalades. The Orbit Closure consists of two parts: a central, floating panel that is vacuum sealed to the jar and an outer ring that acts as the opening and re-closing device. Its design significantly reduces the torque required to remove the closure, making it twice as easy to open as compared to standard twist-off closures and enhancing convenience for consumers of all ages.

A quick look at the new carton bottle. I will write an article in detail later, but here some information as released by Tetra Pak’s Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Charles Brand: “Tetra Evero Aseptic is a new carton shape that delivers ease of use, high impact branding and cost effectiveness. This is a unique packaging concept that brings benefits to producers, retailers and consumers”.Tetra Evero Aseptic is initially aimed at the ambient white milk market, including non-oxygen sensitive milk enriched with calcium, proteins, fibers (inulin), vitamins A and D and some minerals. This will soon expand to cover a wide range of beverages, including flavored milk, cream and oxygen sensitive milk.

Page 8: Interpack 2001 Packaging Highlights

The first to use the Tetra Evero Aseptic is Spain’s largest dairy Corporación Alimentaria Peñasanta (CAPSA), as according to its President and CEO Pedro Astals, CAPSA chose the Tetra Evero Aseptic for its move into the value-added ambient dairy segment. And continues to say that “this package expresses evolution, a very advanced step in comparison with today’s packages. Tetra Evero Aseptic is the perfect match of a high value-added product with a highly developed package. To me this is doubtlessly a winner”.More details and photos as well as videos in my special article about the Tetra Evero Aseptic, but you can also visit Tetra’s special website.Ok, as we have just some days left back to the Interpack, where I continue my search for innovations. Below the result of today Monday 16th of May.

MONDI - The Zip & Valve concept

The principle of this innovation is astonishingly easy: simply add liquid (e.g. water or milk) to the foodproduct packed in the Zip & Valve stand-up pouch, flavour as desiredand close the zipper of the pouch. Then place the pouch in the microwave and depending on the product inside, a fresh made nutritious meal is ready in only a few minutes time.

The Zip & Valve concept is based on a patented valve design, which consists of a special welding of the male zipper stripe to the inner wall of the stand-up pouch. The consistent overpressure can be predefined and adjusted according to customer needs by altering the number and size of steam valves on the pouch

Opti Lift

Using a simple but ingenious idea OptiLift, the preserve can lid by the Ardagh Group, Dublin, Ireland, makes the opening of metal cans possible without ruining your fingernails. A hollow for your finger under the pull tab makes for considerably improved ergonomics.

A flex panel does the trick: it is convex during seaming and becomes concave after sterilization due to the creation of a vacuum. Concavity is reached automatically without the need for mechanical manipulation. The lid makes a 10% saving on material over the conventional version.

Where does the meat in salami come from? What is sodium nitrite and what purpose does it serve in ham?The talking packaging, developed by Wipak Walsrode in Germany, provides the answers here. Using specialcodes in its print varnishes information and sounds can be integrated into the packaging. Consumers can use a special pen to aim at specific points on the packaging – for instance the list of ingredients – then reads out this audio information. This might be nutritional information, warnings for allergy sufferers or brand messages.

Modulomold – A single mould, several bottle shapesBeverage brands generally manage a wide portfolio

of products. To respond to productivity needs as well as the greater customization of packages, Sidelpresents its new Modulomold technology, with which several bottles of the same size (up to 0.7 litre) can be produced in a single mould using removable mouldinserts, which ensure quick and simple changeovers.

It’s a simple and intuitive solution for format changeovers, aimed at ensuring better production flexibility. The bottles have two shared parts, the labeling area and the base, and either one or two areas, the shoulder and/or the body, can be customized using the inserts. It takes less than 30 seconds to change a set of inserts, from opening the first mould to opening the second. Designed in accordance with the single minute exchange of die, this technology facilitates ultra-quick changeover without tools, and it reduces the risk of error during installation in the mould, thanks to a foolproof system.

Medisize’s new innovation in pharmaceutical packaging

The 2K Dosing System is used in connection with remedies/liquids such as cough linctuses, liquid medication for the treatment of stomach, etc. to be taken orally. The system is available for use with hygiene liquids, such as mouthwashes and also for liquid foodstuffs that have to be administered in precise dosages. The two principal components (apart from the container and riser tube) are the dosing head and closure. At the closure opening point the precisely measured liquid reaches the dosing head – to an accuracy of +/- 5%.The 2K Dosing System operates according to the principal of vacuum pressure delivery. By turning the screw closure the dosage head is filled with exact precision. The development dispenses with awkward and imprecise administration implements such as spoons, measuring cups, and bottle caps etc. One turn and filling is perfect.

on customer specifications, the dosing head can be adapted to dosage volumes btwn 1 ml to 20 ml. Child safety locking, TE original closure and special geometries are available as optional extras.

Consumers prefer foods that are as natural as possible with the fewest chemical preservatives. Consumer advocates demand a high level of food safety to avoid health hazards. High-pressure treatment (High Pressure Processing, HPP) of packaged food is generally recognized as one of the most promising technologies for the reduction of harmful bacteria in meat and poultry products as well as in other foodstuffs. It deactivates micro-organisms, such as salmonella or listeria, without the original nutritional value or the taste of the product being lost.

Carry Pack – Beverage package to goThis promotional packaging, developed by Thimm Verpackung, in Northeim, Germany, is a stable carrying solution for beverage cartons, such Tetra Pak and SIG Combibloc, and will help consumers to easily transport their beverage cartons home from the store. Especially for single households and the elderly, this packaging unit has the optimal size. The construction also allows for the assembly of a special assortment of beverages by the producer. The exterior view of the packaging can be adapted in a variety of ways to allow for an optimal advertising message and to achieve a synergy with the primary packaging. In terms of process, this packaging solution can be implemented both mechanically and manually.

A build in reinforcing tape provides high load capacity of the integrated carry handle. Blocking flaps reach under the corner tabs of the beverage carton, thus ensuring stability. The packaging can be varied and the design of the primary package to be adapted. This ensures a consistent brand Image. Compared with the conventional corrugated trays and plastic shrink films that are currently used to bundle a number of sales units, Thimm’s CarryPack provides a material-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative.
