IntroductionIntroduction

Interoperability frameworks for exchange of information between diverse management systems

CEN/ISSS Workshop on Learning Technologies, 10-11 December 2002, Copenhagen, Denmark

– To provide interoperability specifications for a range of information

exchange, initially aimed at school systems but also applicable in a

wider lifelong learning context. This work item will support the

outputs of the OASIS (Open Architecture and Schools in Society)

project that enable different applications and systems to share

information.

– The work item will focus on collaborating with the OASIS partners

in ensuring that the specifications they produce do not duplicate

international standards activity, are appropriate for a broader

audience and are suitable for e-Europe standardization.

Decisions from Copenhagen (i)Decisions from Copenhagen (i)

The main task of the PT should be to act as a gateway between OASIS and the WS. An overall objective should be to publish one or more CWAs containing results from OASIS.

Decisions from Copenhagen (ii)Decisions from Copenhagen (ii)

The first contacts should be established with SIF and then with OASIS.

Decisions from Copenhagen (iii)Decisions from Copenhagen (iii)

For the short term the PT should concentrate on analyzing SIF.

OASIS OASIS

1.- Brussels, January 17th 2003

OASIS is trying to get the data from 4 ministries and compare with SIF.

Questionnaire was also sent out but not much response.

Correlating SIF, IMS and ministries’ (Spain, France, Ireland & Sweden) data models to ensure that there is a common set of data.

OASIS OASIS

1.- Brussels, January 17th 2003

OASIS Workpackage 2 is producing a set of docs which could form the basis for our CWAs.

OASIS is using XML to define their data model – CEN/ISSS might prefer to produce a conceptual model – working back from the binding.

OASIS OASIS

2.- Madrid, March 21st 2003

Main conclusions:Main conclusions:

Focus on WP2 as this is producing the OASIS data model and adaptation of the SIF architecture.

OASIS WP2 is interested in publishing its outcomes as CWAs.

OASIS OASIS

2.- Madrid, March 21st 2003

Main conclusions:Main conclusions:

We agreed that a joint document (eventually producing a CWA on “Internationalization of SIF and harmonisation with other standards/specs”) will be of interest for both OASIS and SIF. This document will focus on identifying issues rather than proposing solutions.

OASIS OASIS

2.- Madrid, March 21st 2003

Main conclusions:Main conclusions:

OASIS will focus on Europeanisation of SIF while the PT will assure that SIF does not overlap other standards/specs

The PT will assist with “Quality control” for the OASIS WP2 intermediate deliverables.

OASIS OASIS 2.- Madrid, March 21st 2003

Proposed CWAs:

1. Review/Adaptation of SIF Infrastructure, Architecture, Message Processing and Transport Layer. (draft-Q2 , final Q3)

2. Internationalisation of SIF and Harmonisation with other standards/specs (draft Q2, final Q3)

3. Adaptation of SIF data model for a European context (draft Q3, final Q4)

Next Steps Next Steps

1.- By the end of March the PT will contact CAPITA (UK company in charge of broading (internationalising?) SIF

2.- By mid April we expect from OASIS WP2 team their documents on SIF infrastructure, architecture, message processing and transport layer

Next Steps Next Steps

3.- These will be reviewed and used as a base for a CWA-1 on "Review of SIF infrastructure, architecture, message processing and transport layer" which will be returned back to OASIS for comments by the end of April

4.- The PT will produce by the end of April and send to OASIS a report on SIF data model crossovers with other specs/standards

5.- This report, together with the first “european” OASIS data model, expected by mid May from OASIS WP2, will be used to produce the first draft of a CWA2 on "Internationalisation of SIF and harmonisation with other specs/standards“, which will be delivered back to OASIS by the end of May

6.- Comments by OASIS WP2 team on the first draft of CWA1 are expected by mid May. A second draft of CWA1 will be delivered by the PT to both OASIS and SIF by the end of May.

7.- Final comments by OASIS on both CWA drafts and SIF on CWA1 expected by mid June.

8.- CWA1 and CWA2 delivered for WS-LT consideration by Q2 meeting (Greece)

Further steps:

Endorsement of CWA1 and CWA2 (Q3 meeting)

Draft of CWA3 by Q3 meeting (Adaptation of SIF datamodel) and final CWA endorsement in Q4 meeting.
