INTERNSHIP
The internship program is a yearlong voluntary work
experience program for young people who are looking for
some direction in their life. We provide opportunities for
young people to actively participate in their own holistic
development, through a combination of work experience,
training and personal development programs.
The vision behind the internship programme is to create a
generation of empowered, motivated citizens who work
within, through and around their circumstances to create
meaningful change in their lives, and the lives of their family,
friends and communities. This begins during their time as
interns as these young people work full time in one of the
programs of Khayalethu or Tennyson House. This adds huge
value to our projects, bringing caring people into the lives of
our beneficiaries. The skills gained in working with people
and communities, as well as the compassion for people which
is nurtured and grown throughout the year, become a part of
who the interns are.
This program becomes the springboard
to transformation and greater
opportunities for success.
REFLECTIONS OF THE INTERNSREFLECTIONS OF THE INTERNSThe internship program is so much bigger than a little bit of training and experience provided to a small group of people. It is a chance for us to take the little resources we have and multiply them exponentially as the young people we train go out and serve communities, share their knowledge with friends and families, and encourage more young people to stand up and take control of their lives.

I now know how to work with young kids and youth and how to handle difficult situations
Before, I would teach children in a boring way. After the training, I learnt I must play games with them and do activities that link with the topic.
I have learnt new things and become clearer on some of the things concerning young people and how you should treat them.
It is pretty rad when you are afraid to do something and then do it and realise that you had nothing to be afraid of.
My time at YFC has created a huge difference in my life. I have grown and gained experience in working with children. YFC was a place that opened my eyes to desiring to create change in other people's lives.
I have a responsibility to speak out against the injustices I see for I am the only person that can change my world. If I make others realise the truth I will have started to change my own world, and hopefully our world one day.
YFC gave me an opportunity to gain experience on how to work with young people that really impacted positively in my life because now I can discipline my daughter using what I've learnt in YFC.
YFC has helped me a lot in terms of knowing
how to take charge of my work and my life
and also it has helped me to want to do
more in life not to sit and do nothing. Now I
know that I have to work harder to have this
future that I want for myself.
The internship program has influenced and changed me in many ways and has made me a better team player. It has helped me to look at my life from a different perspective and value it more. It also gave me confidence in making my own choices regarding my relationship with God. I have learnt to be more thankful and now I know how to set my goals and implement them.
I now no longer see the
children on the street
as nuisances, rather
now as lost lambs that
need shepherding.
The internship was a valuable life lesson and has shaped my life
going forward.
