• Internet, invented byAl Gore, right?The Internet was originally developed by DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, as a means to share information on defense research between involved universities and defense research facilities. Al Gore really did have a substantial part in the legal framework and governmental issues related to the internet.

P2P Filesharing Sotware• What are P2Ps (ex. LimeWire)?– Short for peer to peer, P2P is a form

of file sharing where users trade files with each other, versus downloading them from a centralized server. Peer-to-peer networking employs a system in which each user can see the files that every other connected user has to share.

Instant Messaging• What is instant messaging?– Instant Messaging, also called "IM,"

allows two people to communicate in over the Internet just as if they were having a face-to-face talk with the other person. It is much faster than email. Some Instant Messaging software allows you to track when another person "logs on" or "logs off" of the Internet. Some software also gives you the ability to send files to your friends, and receive files they send to you.
