Repeat owners belong to a very special class of clients. Placing an order for a new yacht at the same shipyard and with the same team surely affirms that they are putting a lot of trust into everyone involved. After the client enjoyed exploring the oceans with his first Abeking & Rasmussen yacht AVIVA for almost ten years, he decided to build a new yacht. The design of the new AVIVA builds on the success of the existing yacht of the same name. In order to make sure that the new AVIVA becomes as successful as his earlier yacht, the owner appointed the same team of experts to work on this project: Once again the award-winning team of Reymond Langton Design was chosen. Working with designer Toby Silverton on the exterior they developed a sleek, characterful and elegant profile. Inside they created a modern yet mystical interior which conceals an ocean going first: a full sized padel tennis court, 20m x 10m x 6m high.

The powerful looking yet curvaceous hull is the result of extensive new research and testing which ensures superior seakeeping abilities combined with a 20% decrease in drag. Less engine output is required, fuel consumption is dramatically reduced and the maximum speed is a full 20 knots. A very special feature is the hybrid drive system: it allows the yacht to run at up to 11 knots without the use of the main engines, using electric motors only. This is smooth, silent and environmentally beneficial.

A&R prepared a sophisticated launching system for the new AVIVA. A large pontoon from Norway had been shipped in and moored in front of the new building shed. A special hydraulic platform trailer with 60 wheels combined with a winch moved the 98m yacht slowly but steadily onto the pontoon. This had been prepared and planned over several weeks. It was an unforgettable moment for all participants. Till von Krause, Sales Director of Abeking & Rasmussen, noted: “We are very proud to present our latest superyacht named AVIVA. This is the result of highest workmanship and best communication between the owner and his team during the short period of less than three years.”

A very special feature is the hybrid drive system: it allows the yacht to run at up to 11 knots on electric motors without the use of the main engines, making for smooth, silent and environmentally beneficial cruising.

A key aspect of the owner’s brief for the design was luxury of space. He uses the yacht as his primary home so he needed a huge volume which took priority over exterior aesthetics. He expected, of course, the yacht to look different and to be beautiful on the exterior ‘as a given’, but it was

in no way his priority. Abeking & Rasmussen worked closely with the owner’s in-law and the owner’s representative Toby

Silverton on the exterior design and he laid down the brief for us. Toby has a lot of experience in

Automotive design, aircraft engineering and naval architecture so he was

quite passionate about making the new Aviva something very

special on the outside and it was a very rewarding

experience to work with him again.
