We are very happy that you are here!

To welcome you at HAW Hamburg we have prepared a welcoming programme. With it we want to help you settle in, find friends, discover our lovely city and pre-pare for your studies at HAW Hamburg. We hope you enjoy it!

Some days of the programme might be busier than others. Use the free time in the Welcome Week wisely! Here are some things we recommend you to do before the lectures start:

• Register your address (obligatory for everyone).• Open a German bank account (if you need one).• Apply for a residence permit (if you need one).• Explore your neighbourhood and find all of the

useful shops.• Do something fun with your Buddy.

At the end of day we will be meeting at the Hofbräuhaus at Speersort where we can enjoy the traditional Bavarian atmosphere. Please bring enough cash with you (e.g. 8,90€ for 1L beer). And don‘t forget to enjoy the good Bavarian beer responsibly. :)

You will get the answers to these and many other questions during this mee-ting with your HAW Hamburg student exchange coordinators. They will fill you in about everything that is important in order to have a stress-free, successful semester.

Our former Buddy Kalvin Brooks is organizing a fun and somewhat scary tour of our lovely city. The spots are limited so make sure to register for this tour.

Most of the time the libraries at HAW Hamburg are sufficient but it might be good to know where you can get additional books or find a quiet place to study. Please register for this tour!

DeutschIn this two week intensive course will learn the basics to help you communicate in everyday life. The spots in the courses are limited, so it will be „first come first serve“. There will also be many awesome weBuddy events throughout the semester. Don’t forget that the trains do not run all night on weekdays (only on Friday, Sa-turday or before public holidays). Make sure you know how to get home!
