Welcome to the Summerand Winter English School

We aim to help you improveyour English language whilst youexperience the sights and soundsof summer and winter in the UK.

We can offer the following:

● 15 hours of English lessons eachweek for both individual studentsand groups of students aged 16years and over

● Fun interactive lessons using books, tapes, videos and games

● Elementary to advanced levels

● Average class size of 14 students

● Home stay accommodation

● Afternoon social activities

● Saturday excursions to other interesting places in the UK.

You will improve your skills in grammar,speaking, listening, reading and writingand increase your vocabulary.

Summer and Winter English is anexcellent opportunity for you to have fun,experience British Culture, make friendswith people of different nationalities andimprove your English language skills.

English language is taught at GuildfordCollege, set in parkland close to the towncentre, in the south east of the UK. Witha modern Learning Resource Centrehosting a dedicated EFL zone and over100 computers offering unlimited freeinternet access.

Refreshments and lunch are taken in theFood Zone which offers hot and coldfood and forms a central meeting pointfor all students.

Remember, you are not alone! Every yearwe welcome hundreds of internationalstudents from all over the world and lookforward to them joining our InternationalClub. We aim to provide a wide rangeof social activities and excursions to giveeveryone a chance to make new friends,experience UK culture and have theopportunity to be part of the GuildfordCollege Group community.

Guildford is only 40 minutesaway from London by trainwhich makes it the perfect baseto explore the towns and citiesin the south of England.

Guildford town is only a shortwalk away from the College andis a great place to meet friendsand enjoy some shopping.

Have something to eat in one ofGuildford’s cafés or restaurants andthen perhaps visit the theatre or goto the cinema - Guildford has it all!

There is a Tourist Information Centre,many historical buildings and gardensas well as boating, theatre, cinema,sports, an extensive leisure centre anda huge variety of restaurants, cafes,bars and pubs.

Guildford is a flourishing market townsteeped in history and offering plentyto see and do. Shopping has never beenmore interesting! Visitors have a hugevariety of shops, stores and businessesto choose from. From art and jewelleryto cool funky brands and modern gamesand technology - from beautifulboutiques to bustling markets andfrom smart ‘covered’ shopping centresto small independent stores.

The beautiful cobbled High Streetis jammed packed with shoppingpossibilities and a lot of retail therapy.The town also features events andactivities for everyone throughoutthe year.

There are a number of differentoptions that you can choose fromas part of the Summer School:

Option 1

Summer English TraditionalSchool (July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of general English,5 afternoon activities and a Saturdayexcursion each week.

Option 2*

Summer English FootballSchool (July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of general English,3 afternoons of football training(coaching, matches, seminars andskills), 2 afternoons of activities andSaturday excursions to WembleyStadium or Stamford Bridge Stadiumeach week.

Option 5

Summer English LondonSchool (July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of general English,5 afternoon activities and Saturdayexcursions to Buckingham Palace,Tower Bridge, Tower of Londonor a sightseeing tour of Londonincluding the London Eye, Big Ben,Westminster, Harrods, British Museum,China Town and Oxford Street.

Option 6*

Summer English Golf School(July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of generalEnglish, 3 afternoons of golf lessons(coaching, 9 hole rounds, rules andetiquette), 2 afternoons of activitiesand Saturday excursions to play around of golf at a UK golf club.

Option 3*

Summer English Dance andPerforming Arts School(July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of general English,3 afternoons of dance and dramaclasses (musical theatre, auditionstraining and acting), 2 afternoonsof activities and Saturday excursionsto London’s West End to watch aproduction or a visit to Shakespeare’sGlobe Theatre.

Option 4

Summer English Royal School(July and August)

Includes: 15 hours of general English,5 afternoon activities and Saturdayexcursions to the State Rooms ofBuckingham Palace, the CrownJewels at the Tower of London, KingHenry VIII’s Court at Hampton CourtPalaces and the state rooms of theoldest and largest occupied castlein the world Windsor Castle.

Option 7*

Summer English WimbledonSchool (June and July)

Includes: 15 hours of generalEnglish, 3 afternoons of tennislessons (coaching, matches, rulesand etiquette), 2 afternoons ofactivities and an afternoon at theWimbledon Grand Slam Tournament.

The Summer School options requirea minimum of a 2 week bookingand are available to students aged16 years and over studying atelementary level and above(we do not accept beginners).

Home stay accommodation isarranged on a half board basis(breakfast and dinner), lunch istaken at Guildford College Mondayto Friday, a meal allowance is given tostudents on the day of excursion andis taken at the home stay on Sundays.

Accommodation

Your accommodation in Guildfordis one of the most importantaspects of your time here. Agood home will help you settleinto English life quickly and helpimprove your language skills.

Most of our home stay providers are inGuildford or the nearby towns of Woking,Farncombe and Godalming. Guildford hasa good transport system and all of theseplaces enjoy regular bus or train servicesinto Guildford.

All of our home stay providers arechecked by the AccommodationOfficer to ensure an acceptablestandard of living. You will be treatedas a member of the household,eating together and sharing commonliving areas.

One of the best ways to improve yourEnglish is to live with an English familyin their home. You will have theopportunity to get involved in everydaylife, from eating together to watchingBritish television. You will either live witha single person, a couple or a family.

I love the way theyteach, I think thatletting the studentsparticipate in thewhole class is the bestway to learn English.

My host family iswonderful, caring andhelpful despite thedistance that separateme from my family, shemakes me feel I’m home.
