Meeting InformationThis course is ideal for those providing care for children, adolescents and adults with vulvovaginal disease and clinicians who treat patients with persistent or recurrent vulvar symptoms not explained by simple yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis. This course is for those practitioners who treat itching, dyspareunia, and pain, as well as vaginal discharge, and chronic rashes. The conditions include recurrent candidiasis, lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, vulvodynia, ulcers, and desquamative inflammatory vaginitis.
Learning ObjectivesFriday/Saturday - Biennial ConferenceUpon completion of this course, participants will:
• Be able to describe the pathophysiology of vulvovaginal disorders, and use that information to correctly diagnose and effectively treat patients with vulvovaginal complaints;
• Understand how to submit vulvovaginal specimens for pathologic analysis, and communicate with your consulting pathologist in a meaningful way;
• Recognize and treat common and resistant vulvovaginitis;• Obtain knowledge on treatment for pruritic conditions of the vulva;• Gain insight into dermatoses of the vulva, including lichen simplex chronicus,
lichen sclerosus, and lichen planus;• Be able to generate a differential diagnosis of vulvar ulcers, erosions, red plaques,
brown lesions, and hypopigmented lesions;• Recognize the different prognosis and treatment approach of HSIL, LSIL, and dVIN;• Be able to recognize and treat hidradenitis suppurativa;• Understand the diagnosis and management of vulvar pain from the medical,
physical, and psychosocial aspects;• Understand the importance and mechanism of pelvic floor physical therapy in the
treatment of vulvar pain;• Understand what is known about desquamative inflammatory vaginitis and
atrophic vaginitis; • Distinguish between the causes of chronic erosive vulvovaginal skin diseases;• Learn when and why to include consultants from other medical disciplines to help
address the many facets of vulvovaginal care;• Show an improved understanding of various vulvovaginal diseases with lectures
emphasizing audience participation;• Learn to better understand the effects of aging and menopause on the vulva;• Be aware of various new and innovative topics and treatments in vulvar disease
and what the research indicates.
