We would like to express our full respect to those who leads minimally invasive, functional preservation surgery for better treatment of head and neck cancer patients.

The upcoming 7th International Robotic Surgery Symposium (7th IRSS) will be held on October 28th (Sat) to 29th (Sun). We have pride and self-esteem in this symposium to have pioneered a new horizon of robotic surgery for head and neck cancer every year. This year, we have prepared a more productive program than ever, with the motto of ‘Leading Concepts of Robotic Surgery in Head & Neck Cancer’ to make a stepping stone of leading robotic surgery in the head and neck field

There will be 10 keynote lectures in 2 days about the New concept of robotic surgery in pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer, Trials on progress, and the new surgical robot with the World leading Keynote Lecture speakers (Eric J Moore, J. Scott Magnuson, Luiz Paulo Kowalski, Giuseppe Spriano, Giovanni Cristalli, Claudio Vicini, Georges Lawson, Woong Yoon Chung, and Se-Heon Kim).

In addition, 50 faculty members from 15 countries around the world will share 10 sessions discussing on recent updates in Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS), Robotic Thyroid & Neck Surgery, and Robotic Sleep Surgery.

In particular, this year’s Live Surgery Session will go on to the Retroauricular Robotic Thyroid & Neck Surgery, which many would be unfamiliar with. There is also a session on the newly emerging Transoral Robotic Thyroidectomy, which would be a great opportunity to learn the most advanced knowledge with more interesting topics ever.

After the Symposium, Cadaver Dissection Course is also available for those who are willing to participate and start performing robotic surgery.

Two years ago, it was considered impossible for artificial intelligence to defeat human in the game of Go (Baduk) due to infinite number of strategies and possibilities. However, two years later now, in the battle to think of infinite possibilities, human was totally outplayed by the artificial intelligence, Alphago. We believe that the treatment we perform now is the best choice of treatment for patients with head and neck cancer. But we never know if this will be true few years later. As Surgical Technology is evolving rapidly every day, we will never be able to provide the best medical care to our patients unless we try to make the best use of it. I hope this symposium and workshop will be a valuable stepping stone for such efforts.

Surgeons from our department are invited to many institutions worldwide, and are actively performing the state-of-the-art surgeries

Robotic surgery in Head and Neck field has now reached the point where we review and polish our accomplishments. As Head and Neck surgeons, we are obligated to discuss the detailed indications of the robotic surgery, and develop the solution to minimize the complications resulting from the use of robots. To do so, we have prepared this stimulating program, together with outstanding experts from countries across the globe.

Many congratulations on yet another grand opening of the 7th International Robotic Surgery symposium in Head and Neck Cancer and Handson Workshop. As the President of the Korean Society of Thyroid and Head and Neck Surgery, I am deeply impressed that this symposium has now reached its 7th turn.

I would like to applaud Professor Se-Heon Kim of Yonsei University for his dedication toward this meeting. His enthusiasm and endeavor for Robotic Head and Neck Surgery deserve a great admiration. Through the countless efforts to deliver the programs with utmost quality, the symposium has now thieved to become one of the most influential of the kind, drawing participants from all around the world.

The recent technological advances in the robotic surgical system has resulted in a whole new paradigm shift in the field of Head and Neck surgery. As the role of robotic surgery expands greatly in Head and Neck surgery, the thirst for developing novel surgical techniques and refining the current robotic techniques is greater than ever. In this aspect, the International Robotic Surgery Symposium will be an excellent international symposium that will provide the opportunities of learning and sharing the new technology, knowledge and experience of Head and Neck gurus worldwide.
