International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day (IFD) is commemorated annually in schools and is a day dedicated to understanding the importance of Singapore maintaining its international space and good relations with neighbouring countries. This year, IFD falls on Friday, 6 April 2018.

The theme for IFD this year is “Celebrating the ASEAN Community”. With Singapore

being the chairman of ASEAN and leading the milestone celebration beyond ASEAN’s 50th anniversary, we celebrate our shared successes and the growth and resilience of the ASEAN people in our journey thus far. Through greater openness and mutual inter-dependence, we hope to inspire our young to play an active role in fostering economic and people-to-people ties, reinforcing our sense of togetherness and strengthening our ASEAN identity.

The school will commemorate this day with a series of exciting activities as part of its Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) Programme to deepen their understanding of the relations that we share with other countries, to sensitise our children towards the geo-political realities inherent in Singapore, as well as nurture in our students the spirit of friendship and collaboration amongst different people.

Students are encouraged to come to school dressed in the attractive array of different countries’ national costumes. Do note that with the ethnic attire, hair accessories must still be in accordance to school rules and school shoes must be worn.

Unwell Pupils and Maintaining Good Hygiene Practice

In our continued efforts to safeguard the well-being of all our pupils and staff, the school would like to appeal to you to keep your child at home should he/she be unwell for whatever reasons and to adhere to the rest period given by the doctor, especially if he/she has a communicable disease such as Hand-Foot-Mouth (HFMD) or Chicken Pox or Gastroenteritis. He/she should only return to school once he/she is fully well.

Semestral Assessment 1 (SA1) Matters

The schedule for P3 – P6 Semestral Assessment 1, with the topics to be tested, is enclosed for your reference. P1 and P2 pupils will not be sitting for SA1. Instead, they will be

assessed holistically (in bite-sizes and in different areas of development) and will receive a Pupil’s Portfolio on their progress.

Absence from Examinations

Please note that if your child is absent for any paper or subject during SA1, his/her absence must be supported with a Medical Certificate from the doctor. Only letters from parents with

official supporting documents will be accepted as valid reasons for his/her absence.

We appeal to parents to exercise personal responsibility and refrain from sending your child to school if he/she is unwell or has been certified by a doctor to be unfit for attendance in school. A child who is unwell will not perform at his/her best.

Once your child returns to school, the subject teacher will make arrangements for him/her to sit for the paper for the purpose of revision and practice. The teacher will mark the paper and give your child feedback on his/her performance.

The marks for the paper will not be included in the overall results at the end of the year. However, the school will make the necessary adjustments to ensure that his/her year-end results are fair and valid.

Tip Sheet for Parents on Cyber Wellness

Singapore is one of the most wired countries in the world. It is common to see people engaged on their mobile devices almost everywhere you go. On average, every person in Singapore owns at least one handphone.

Our children are digital natives and very Internet savvy. Most of our children go online most days of the week using their smartphones and start using the Internet from the age of six. The open nature of the Internet may pose risks to our children. Some of these include cyber bullying, excessive internet use, danger with online contacts and accessing inappropriate online content.

One of MOE’s Cyber Wellness principles is to encourage our students to be a positive role model online and advocate positive online behaviour. For more information, please refer to the ‘Tip Sheet for Parents’ which is attached to the April Bulletin.

Joint Advisory Notice

Dear Parents,

ADVISORY NOTICE ON PARKING REGULATIONS OUTSIDE JUNYUAN PRIMARY

SCHOOL

Our office has received numerous feedback regarding vehicles parking indiscriminately outside

the school especially near the bends. We wish to remind parents of waiting at nearby designated

car parks. While we understand the need of parents/guardians having to pick up their children,

such inconsiderate parking had caused inconveniences, obstruction and danger to other road users.

Under the current Road Traffic Act, any of the above acts constitute to a parking offence. Upon

receiving feedback of such occurrences, LTA will take enforcement action against vehicles found

parking indiscriminately.

In the interest of general public safety, we will strongly like to advise you not to park and wait

along the road and instead in the nearby HDB car parks which gives a grace period of 10 minutes.

You should also come at a later timing to pick up your children when traffic will be considerably

lighter after the school buses have left.

Let us play our part to make the road safe for all road users.

Yours faithfully,

Parking Enforcement Section Mrs Ming Kum

DEVELOPING YOUR CHILD TO BE A POSITIVE PEER INFLUENCE ONLINE

Positive peer influence is a key principle in MOE’s Cyber WellnessFramework which encourages our students to: Be a positive role model online (e.g. share healthy and positive

content, harness technology to do good); and Advocate positive online behaviours (e.g. stand up for their

peers online, report cases of cyber bullying to a trustedadult/authority, post encouraging remarks on social media).

Being a positive peer influence online will help your child to: Exercise empathy and kindness online Develop resilience and moral courage to stand up to negative

peer pressure and unhealthy online influences Learn responsibility for words and actions Leave positive digital footprints and establish a good online

reputation

Encourage your child to: Be S.U.R.E. before sharing. Check the Source, Understand the

facts, Research and Evaluate T.H.I.N.K. before posting. Ask: “Is it True? Helpful? Inspiring?

Necessary? Kind?” Be an upstander for friends who are cyber bullied Use technology for good
