Where is Irving? Irving is centrally located about half way between Dallas,
Fort Worth and Arlington.
The Double Tree is about a mile east of the DFW Airport northern entrance. In Irving you’ll find Las Colinas, the home to the Mustangs at Las Colinas,
which is the largest equine sculpture in the world. There are also many Fortune 500 companies, such as ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Fluor Corporation.
What is close to the Double Tree? Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall with Neiman Marcus Last Call and Saks Fifth
Avenue Bass Pro Shop
About 25 miles west is the Texas Motor Speedway NASCAR track Close to the Speedway is Cabelas
About 30 miles to the west is Fort Worth where Justin Boots, Wrangler
jeans and Resistol or Stetson hats are a way of life, not a fashion statement. Famous for the historic Old North Side and Stockyards where you can see
longhorn cattle drives right down the middle of the street, twice daily. Dallas, a different world of chrome and glass skyscrapers where coats and
ties are the norm, is about 30 Miles to the East. There are many historic sites including the infamous Texas School Book Depository that houses the Kennedy Museum, a piece of American History you’ll never forget.
In Arlington, you’ll find the majestic AT & T Stadium where the Dallas
Cowboys play. Next stadium to the right is the home of Texas Rangers baseball team, and next to them is the original 6 Flags Over Texas.
We already have several instructors that are wanting to teach. Here are a few …
Bob Park Jim Linnell
George Hurst Kathy Flanagan
Chan Geer Chris “Slickbald” Andre Roz Kaohn
Paul Zalesck Randall “Randy” Gustafson
And more to come!
Classes and dates are not set in stone yet. They could start as early as October 11th or 12th. We will advise everyone as soon as possible.
We also have several great Vendors asking about space. We have a great room for our vendors with a roll up door allowing them to unload from outside directly into the space.
We plan to fill it “plum up”.
More information to come
Lone Star has always been noted for having unique and different activities
and entertainment. 2017 will be no exception. We have a team working on some special things and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Use you imagination. What would you expect in Texas, where everything is bigger?
It’s not all about entertainment. How would you like to set down at a table with Al Stohlman Award
winners and see them working on one of their specialties? How would you
like them to answer your questions? George Hurst will be doing the Mystery Carving Contest. We are planning a tour in conjunction with Tandy to see their World
Headquarters and Flagship Store. It will include a tour of their museum
where you’ll see work by Al and Ann Stohlman, Dick Giehl, Christine Stanley, Jim Linnell, Charlie Davenport, Ben moody, Gene Noland, Ken
Griffin and George Hurst. We are working with Jim Linnell on a tour of his Elk Tracks Studio where
you can see not only his work, but pieces by many other Leather Masters.
Jim currently has work by 29 of the 36 Al Stohlman Award winners, displayed in his studio.
