To discuss the research and technological developments and interventions happening globally and locally and their

application in the context of climate change and food security.

To discuss the problems faced by farmers in India and globally, the issue of access and equity in technologies, policy

and the challenges in the seed sector.

To discuss the role of the Government, industry and institutions towards promoting seeds R&D, production and

marketing through innovative models and programs.

To discuss the global scenario, trends, issues and opportunities in seeds business, and the need for collective action

through global partnerships and the increased role of private sector.

To discuss the policy, trade, technology, and investments perspectives to exploit the potential of seeds sector towards

sustainable agricultural growth and achieving global food security.

The conference aims at achieving the following specic objectives:

Objectives:

eeds is the most important agri-input for the crops and on which hinges the performance of all other inputs. The

recent history of agricultural growth has been determined by the seeds, starting with high yielding and later hybrid

seeds. Through advances in biotechnology, seeds have shown great potential in increasing yields, reducing costs and

improving quality of produce. Years of intensive technology upgradation has perfected India and the world's seed potential

to feed a rapidly multiplying population. Seeds have consistently inuenced the course of global food security.

India's ascent to being the power center of agriculture was primarily driven through improved seeds. The high yielding

varieties of wheat and rice that kick started India's green revolution is the perfect example of quality seeds changing the

agriculture fortunes of a country. Later, seeds that were developed to meet specic requirements of the agro climatic

conditions and prevailing demands of agriculture including high yielding varieties, hybrids, GM seeds etc., have been able

to leave a permanent imprint on the Indian agriculture. With a spirited approach and support from the government, the

industry has been successfully delivering quality seeds to Indian farmers. Today Indian seed industry is ranked fth in the

world with a promising future ahead of it. With the industry and the State Governments going aggressive on providing

every farmer high quality seeds through Seeds Valley concept and Seeds Village programs, the demand for quality seeds

may further accelerate @ 14% AGCR and is likely to double every 4 years. India is also emerging as the seed supply hub for

the African continent.

However, there are some major challenges related to the development of the Seed sector, which needs to be addressed for

the global seed industry to unlock its true potential. Research and Development has been mostly restricted to high value low

volume seeds. Seed Replacement Rate is also far from desirable in majority of the developing countries, including India. The

broader discontent towards GM seeds, and at the same time, making regulatory authorities fully equipped is to be

addressed at the earliest. Considering the climate change and the challenges it presents, there is a need for wider

cooperation and association among the international community. International Conference on Seeds thus becomes a

signicant step towards bringing together the stakeholders from around the world on a single platform to discuss and

evolve steps for the holistic development of the seed industry.

Objectives:

rop losses owing to pest and diseases are inherent to any agricultural system. It is particularly signicant in Indian

agriculture owing to the tropical situation. Around 15-25 per cent of the crop produced is lost due to pest infestation

and disease infections, which is estimated to be $ 400 – 500 billion globally and approximately $ 30 – 45 billion in

India. The introduction of high yielding varieties, mono-cropping, climate change and an absent disease forecasting

machinery and unscientic storage systems have together kept the losses at signicant levels in Indian agriculture.

According to a recently published report, the Global Crop Protection Market is expected to grow at the CAGR of 5.23%

during 2015-2022 and it is estimated to be $70.12 billion by 2022.

India is the fourth largest producer of agrochemicals globally, after the US, Japan and China. This segment generated a

value of USD 5.0 billion in 2016-17 and is expected to grow at 7.5% per annum to reach USD 6.5 billion by 2019-20. Given

the critical role of crop protection chemicals in enhancing yields, reducing cost of production and ensuring food and

nutritional security, their use in India and developing countries is likely to grow @ 8-10% ACGR basis. With cost benets

ratio of 1:5, investing in appropriate crop protection measures is prudent way in ensuring successful agriculture. The

International Conference on Crop Protection organized by ICFA thus becomes a signicant step towards bringing together

all the stakeholders on a single platform to share about global experiences and discuss issues and challenges, and

accelerating global business and cooperation.

roductivity of agriculture is vastly determined by the soil health and the soil nutrient status. A healthy soil ensures

healthy plant stand and yield. Even the quality of yield is determined by the health status of soils. Balanced application

of fertilizers is important for better crop productivity and yield. The green revolution period saw use of chemical

fertilizers which tripled the yields of Indian agriculture. However, the indiscriminate use of certain fertilizers, over and above

the requisite amount has led to an imbalance in the levels of soil nutrients.

The deciency of micronutrients like Sulphur, Zinc, Boron, Iron, Molybdenum and Manganese has been noticed in soils on a

wide scale. Soil deciencies of zinc are widespread in Asia (Turkey, India, China and Indonesia), sub-Saharan Africa and the

northwestern region of South America. India has been a dominant producer as well user of nitrogenous fertilisers since the

era of Green Revolution, but other nutrients such as potash and phosphates, it is largely dependent upon imports. The

Government has launched a major National Soil Health Cards Program and in recent years large number of companies have

come up with crop based specialty fertilizer products. The demand of fertilisers and micro-nutrients in India @ $ 27 billion

plus, is rapidly growing, throwing open a plethora of opportunities for businesses. International Conference on Soil Health

and Plant Nutrition organized by ICFA therefore holds key in pooling ideas to addressing the issues and facilitating trade,

tremendous changes, and the advantages include saving time, reduction in labor costs, and appropriate use of

inputs to obtain desired output. Moreover, with the growth of government subsidies in Indian and developing countries for

farm machineries, the agriculture and farm machinery market is expected to witness signicant expansion. The growing

world population and upwards rise in food chain will further spur the demand for agricultural products, which will increase

the demand for intensive and mechanized agriculture. The global farm equipment market, valued at US$ 144.10 Bn in

2014, is expected to witness growth at a CAGR of 8.7% from 2015 to 2022.

Growing awareness regarding the importance of technology in agriculture for the maximization of output is aiding the

growth of the market. The incorporation of monitoring systems, GPS systems, and self-driven mechanisms allows the

precise use of material and increases fuel economy as well. India has witnessed an increasing adoption of farm machines

owing to the change in population dynamics and agriculture. Indian tractor and farm machinery market valued at $ 6

billion is growing @ 8-10% ACGR and will reach USD 10 billion by 2025. International Conference on Farm Mechanization

Objectives:

orticulture crops have a signicant contribution in the gross domestic production of the agricultural sector.

Development of horticultural crop production promises to provide the ability to meet domestic food and nutrition

needs and diversify income sources. In addition, horticulture affords excellent opportunities for improvement of

human health, and farmer household economic and social advancement. Horticulture commodities provide high

economic and nutritive value, and they serve as an engine for agricultural and economic diversication. Indian horticulture

crops witnessed an increasing trend over the past ve years, and the year 2016-17 marked the fourth straight year that

India's horticulture production @ 305 million tonnes, outstripped food grain output, underlining a structural change

underway in Indian agriculture

However, the horticulture sector faces numerous challenges from climate change, post-harvest losses, bio-security

concerns, absence of market linkages and price uctuations, changing quality consciousness and global competition.

These concerns need to be addressed in order to sustain the growth momentum in global horticulture. Farmer must get

remunerative prices and wastages must be cut through increased processing. The focus of growth strategy, therefore,

needs to be on raising productivity by supporting high density plantations, protected cultivation, micro irrigation, quality

planting material, use of precision technologies and automation and a thrust on post-harvest management. This will

require global best practices, technologies, inputs, machinery and investments. International Conference on Horticulture

organized by ICFA will be a good platform for discussing the global and Indian scenario, challenges and opportunities

associated with horticulture and exploring market and collaboration opportunities.

making India the largest milk producer in the world. Indians' natural inclination to dairy products and the increasing

demands from an expanding population made the rise of the industry mandatory. Today, India is the world's largest

producer of dairy products by volume, accounting for more than 13% of world's total milk production, and it also has the

world's largest dairy herd in 75 million dairy farms, about half of all dairy farms in the world. India has an edge over many

developed countries with lowest cost of milk in the world but has very low processing level and high cost of conversion to

dairy products.

Indian dairy market is amongst the largest and fastest growing market in the world. India has been able to maintain its

position in milk production during the past 18 years with about a 4% CAGR during the last ve years. Strong farm gate

prices and rising domestic demand for value-added dairy products are the major factors providing impetus to a steady

increase in milk production. Though India is the largest milk producing country, milk yield in the country is still very less as

compared to other top milk producing countries like USA, Germany, France and New Zealand. Breed improvement,

nutrition and farm management technology and systems are needed to improve productivity.

India processes about 30% milk and rest 70% is sold as liquid milk. The conference thus aims to derive solutions to expand

Indian dairy's productivity, processing and protability with global technologies, investments and best practices.

oultry makes a substantial contribution to food security and nutrition, providing energy, protein, and essential micro-

nutrients to humans, with short production cycles and the ability to convert a wide range of agri-food by-products

and wastes into meat and eggs edible by humans. Poultry is the fastest growing agricultural sub-sector, especially in

developing countries. India is the third-largest egg producer after China and USA, and the fourth-largest chicken producer

after China, Brazil and USA. The per capita eggs consumption has gone up from 30 to 68 and the chicken from 400 gm to

2.5 kg. Within a span of 25 years, the egg production has gone up to 70 billion from few millions and the broiler

production has gone up to 3.8 million tonnes from nowhere. The global poultry sector is expected to continue to grow as

demand for meat and eggs is driven by growing populations, rising incomes and urbanisation. World poultry production is

projected to increase by 24% over the next decades, reaching 131,255 thousand metric tonnes in 2025. Poultry meat

production will be dominating more than half of the growth of all the additional meat produced by 2025. In India, poultry

is a major asset and key to poverty alleviation, providing income and market participation. There are however challenges in

terms of very low processing level, value chain and unhygienic supply chain and retailing. There is need for global

technologies in hatching, breeding, processing, supply chain for the industry to cater to the rapidly rising demand of

poultry and poultry products in India, ASEAN and African countries. In a thriving poultry market like India, International

Conference on Poultry will help address the challenges and open up opportunities existing in the market.

continues to expand rapidly. Food and Beverage Industry ranks 2nd globally in terms of production. Changing

demographics, urbanization and growth of organised retail, increase in disposable incomes have spurred the growth

of this industry. The un-organised Food and Beverages sector dominantly covers around 70% of the market, while

Organised sector contributes only 30%. Food expenditure contribute to around 51% on income. The processed food

industries are valued at over $2 trillion dollars globally and consist of over 400,000 businesses. The Indian food processing

industry accounts for 32% of the country's total food market, one of the largest industries in India and is ranked fth in

terms of production, consumption, export and expected growth. It contributes to around 14% of manufacturing Gross

Domestic Product (GDP), 13% of India's agro exports and 6% of total industrial investment.

Food processing industry plays important role from preservation, safety and availability to value addition and connecting

the agriculture sector with the market. Government of India has identied food processing as the sunrise sector with

The Conference aims at achieving the following specific objectives:

Objectives:

co Agriculture has emerged as an inclusive term for any agricultural land that uses organic or biodynamic farming

methods, with no synthetic fertilisers or agricultural chemicals. Bio agriculture aims to develop soil rich in humus and

other essential nutrients. This becomes increasingly pertinent considering the declining soil quality parameters. Using

special preparations to stimulate biological activity of the soil and plants, this type of farming has hence gained increasing

acceptance worldwide. The techniques that are employed in this system of farming ranges from application of composts

containing biodynamic preparations, bio-stimulants, bio-fertilisers, bio-pesticides, use of cover crops, green manuring,

crop rotation and companion planting.

Bio agriculture ensures the health of both local and global ecosystems. Independent research conducted over 20 years has

shown that bio-dynamic practices continuously increase the fertile humus layer of the soil, important for ecosystems long-

term health. Bio-dynamic farming produces safe, healthy and tasty products. Long-term soil fertility is enhanced through

the bio-dynamics preparations and using bio-products made from manure, medicinal plants and natural sources. This

method of farming produces commodities that fetch a premium price at global as well as local markets, owing to the

abstinence from engaging chemicals. The agri-input industry globally is focusing great deal on bringing newer research

based bio-input products to stimulate crop production and protecting crops. International Conference on Bio-Agriculture

organized by ICFA thus becomes a signicant step towards bringing together all the stakeholders on a single platform to

deliberate upon issues and strategies towards popularizing this concept and discussing business opportunities for bi-

products, including bio-stimulants and bio-pesticides.

Objectives:

nformation and communication technologies (ICTs) have played an important role in facilitating access to timely and

accurate information for an improved agricultural production. Among the many ICT tools that have found place in

agriculture world wide mobile phones have been the most powerful. At present, 6.8 billion mobile connections have

been established for a 7 billion world population. By using mobile phone technology, there have been diverse types of

innovations taking place in the agriculture sector, which include commodity and stock market price information and

analysis, meteorological data collection, advisory services to farmers for agricultural extension, early warning systems for

disaster prevention and control, nancial services, traceability of agricultural products, agricultural statistical data

gathering, etc.

Considered as the next generation of extension services and IT based business apps, ICTs can play a transformative role in

agriculture. The stream of agri startups, offering disruptive technologies and business models is providing the missing links

in food and agriculture value chain. India itself has experienced many ICT based startups that have bolstered the agriculture

system of the country. The next phase of IT application in agriculture promising to transform the way we have been doing

agriculture so far. Digital Farming is gaining momentum globally and it is set to make agriculture fully automated.

International Conference on ICT in Agriculture organized by ICFA thus becomes a signicant step towards bringing

Objectives:

isheries and aquaculture remain important sources of food, nutrition, income and livelihoods for hundreds of

millions of people around the world. Fish provides at least 15 % of per capita animal protein intake for 4.5 billion

people. Worldwide approximately 500 million people are directly dependent on sheries for earning their livelihood.

Fish continues to be one of the most traded food commodities worldwide, with more than half of sh exports by value

originating in developing countries.

Indian sheries and aquaculture is an important sector of food production, providing nutritional security to the food

basket, contributing approx. $ 6 billion to the agricultural exports and engaging about fourteen million people in different

activities. With diverse resources ranging from deep seas to lakes in the mountains and more than 10% of the global

biodiversity in terms of sh and shellsh species, the country has shown continuous and sustained increments in sh

production since independence. Constituting about 6.3% of the global sh production, the sector contributes to 1.1% of

the GDP and 5.15% of the agricultural GDP. Inland sheries has of late expanded in a big way in no sh producing States in

India. Recent reports by high-level experts and international organizations highlight the tremendous potential of the

oceans and inland waters to contribute signicantly to food security and adequate nutrition for a global population

expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050. International Conference on Fisheries organized by ICFA thus becomes a signicant

step towards bringing together all the stakeholders on a single platform to discuss and evolve steps for consolidating the

gains from sheries and expanding production and farm protability.
