INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD ACADEMY
Our education system has, for long, focused only
on the core concepts that science and mathematics
can offer. This has spurred the need for an external
platform that provides the opportunity to apply these
concepts and build a deep understanding of the
core concepts learned in school. Olympiads are
competitive examinations conducted nationally and
internationally and have proved to be such
platforms that allow students to test their mettle in
different subjects. These exams focus on the
application of concepts learned in the classroom.
The exams are designed in such a way that the
students are forced to apply multiple concepts
simultaneously to reach the answers. This not only
sharpens their skill, it also builds in them the deep
appreciation of the subject.
We, at International Olympiad Academy, recognize
the need for such periodic tests that pushes the
students out of their comfort zone and helps them
build them their logical reasoning and analytical
abilities. Our Olympiads, pits students from all
across the globe to compete against their peer
groups. We aim to foster a healthy environment
which is competitive yet enriching.
We also provide mentoring programs that guide the
students throughout the process of preparing for
such exams. Our mentors are highly qualified
professionals who have been a part of the education
system for over twenty years. Their extensive
experience allows them to assess the potential of
students quickly and customize the program to
mentor students with different capabilities in a
manner that suits each student exclusively.
Currently in collaboration with HIPPO International
Language Competition, Singapore and Asian School
Math Olympiad (SASMO) and Mathematical
Kangaroo (also known as International
Mathematical Kangaroo, or Kangourou sans
frontières in French), IOA aims to identify young
geniuses and bring out the best in them.

ABOUT MATHEMATICAL KANGAROO
Mathematical Kangaroo (also known as
International Mathematical Kangaroo, or Kangourou
sans frontieres in French) is an international
mathematical competition held across 84 countries
in the world. There are twelve levels of participation,
ranging from grade 1 to grade 12. The competition
is held annually on the third Thursday of March. The
key competence tested by Mathematical Kangaroo
is not just pure knowledge of formulas, but the
logical combination of concepts.
The competition was established in 1991 by Andre
Deledicq, a Professor of Mathematics at the
University of Paris, and Jean-Pierre Boudine,
Professor of Mathematics at Marseille. The idea
comes from the Australian Mathematics
Competition, initiated in 1978 by Peter O'Halloran. It
is based on multiple-choice questions (MCQs),
which were rarely used in France at that time. For
this competition, Jean-Pierre Boudine and André
Deledicq were awarded the 1994 d'Alembert prize
of the Mathematical Society of France.
The competition has now spread around the world.
Students from Sweden first took part in 1999.By
2011, 860,000 students from 9,000 schools took
part in Germany, having grown rapidly from 549,000
in 2007. In 2014, the competition was hosted in
Latin America. In 2017, the Bulgarian association
held a week-long Kangaroo summer camp In
Canada, math contest clubs for elementary school
children teach "questions typical of the Math
Kangaroo contest", starting with those with a visual
component and helping to develop logic and spatial
reasoning. Students in Pakistan took part for the first
time in 2005, the numbers increasing each year
since. In 2009, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted
that the competition was very popular in Europe and
was "finding its way into the United States".
Denmark first participated in 2015. India is going to
organize Mathematical Kangaroo from 2019 under
the banner of International Olympiad Academy.

ABOUT MATH OLYMPIAD (SASMO)
You may have heard of the Cheryl's birthday
puzzle, which went viral on 11 Apr 2015, not only in
Singapore and neighbouring countries, but as far as
the US, Europe and even New Zealand. This puzzle
appeared as one of the most difficult questions in
the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad
(SASMO)- 2015 Contest held on 8 Apr 2015.
SASMO is an international mathematics
competition that is organized by Singapore
International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) and
supported by non-profit foundations Singapore
Scholastic Trust and SASMO Advisory Council
(SAC). SASMO is devoted and dedicated to
bringing a love for Mathematics to students. Unlike
most Math Olympiad Competitions, SASMO caters
not only to students in the top 5% but to the top
40% instead. It aims to arouse students' interest
and enthusiasm for mathematical problem solving,
develop mathematical intuition, reasoning and
logical thinking, as well as creative and critical
thinking. In addition, this can help improve the
students' math grades because they can apply
problem-solving strategies learnt during the training
to their daily school mathematics.
SASMO is one of the largest Math Olympiads in the
Asian regions with over 20,000 participants from 19
countries in 2017. SASMO has now expanded the
Olympiads by providing an international recognized
competitive platform for students from Year 2 to 11
(or Standard 2 to Form 5).
SASMO for Primary and Secondary Schools is held
annually in April in three languages: Bahasa,
English and Chinese. Every level has a different
question paper.
Top scorers will receive Gold (8%), Silver (12%) and
Bronze Awards (20%). All Gold, Silver and Bronze
award winners in SASMO will be invited to join
SIMOC (Singapore International Mathematics
Olympiad Challenge) and AIMO (Asia
International Mathematical Olympiad). Gold and
Silver award winners will be invited to join IJMO
(International Junior Math Olympiad). Each
participant shall be awarded a Certificate of
Participation.
