GUEST SPEAKER: DR PAUL WOOD GAZING INTO THE ABYSS: Dr Wood will be talking about how to apply the same approach we use with clients to help create and sustain a flourishing coaching business. This will include identifying the mindsets that act as barriers and building a solutions focused approach that is based on personal courage and resilience.

As an 18 year old Dr. Paul Wood was completely off the rails. He wasn’t coping with the impending death of his mother, he was dependent on drugs, and was an unemployed high-school dropout who was committing crimes to feed his habit.

Two days after his mother died he lost control when his then drug dealer attempted to sexually assault him. Paul was convicted of murder for this offence and then spent more than a decade in some of New Zealand’s toughest prisons. During this period Paul became the first person in New Zealand’s history to progress through undergraduate and Masters degrees while in Prison. He was also the first person to begin a Doctorate while incarcerated. Paul’s educational pursuits acted as the catalyst for a journey of personal exploration and change, both of which would see him leave prison with an awareness of the fundamental issues that people face when trying to create real change, the best techniques for helping people achieve their goals and cope with adversity, and a deep understanding of how to make the most out of a bad situation. These days Paul runs two successful coaching businesses in the professional and personal development spaces respectively. www.whatsyourprison.com

HOW TO BE MORE COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL AS A COACH, THROUGH THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND POSITIONING

Many coaches simply don’t know how to sell, they don’t like it, and feel a bit weird selling ‘themselves’. Some spend far too much time agonizing over whether coaching is even a profitable option for them. This session shows you how to position your services according to your brilliant uniqueness (based on the powerful thought leadership model founded by Matt Church). Selling is way less daunting when you get positioning right.

LAUREL McLAY Laurel is an accredited thought leader mentor, and a Freefall Coach. Laurel knows how to sell, and one of her companies, once ranked #2 on the Deloitte Fast 50. Ironically she spent many years hating and avoiding sales. Now she teaches others how to be more commercially successful through thought leadership and clever lead generation.
