2. Table 1 shows debts outstanding as of a specified date, usuallyDecember 31, 19620. n addition, certain debts incurred afterthis date are also shown in Table 1. The indebtedness as ofDecember 31, 1962 and the debts incurred subsequently shouldnot be added together as the information on later debts may notbe complete and no allowance has been made for any amortizationsince December 31, 1962. In Table 1 principal amounts includeundisbursed portion of loans.

3. Service payments for the years 1963 through 1972 shown inTable 2 are the estimated amortization and interest paymentsdue in foreign currencies, goods or services on the debtssummarized in Table 1. For a few loans where it has not beenpossible to separate interest from principal payments, interestis included in the amortization column.

4. The service payments in Table 2, which reflect only existingdebt, are not forecasts of the total of service payments thatmay be expected to be made in 1963 through 1972, since notonly may new debts be contracted, but the terms and compositionof the existing debt may be changed.

5. The Bank obtains the information used in the preparation of thetables mainly from reports contributed by the debtor countries;supploenentary information is obtained from published reports ofcreditor countries and other publications. Some figures areestimates of the Bank staff.
