•Biomes are defined as large naturally occurring communities which occupy a major habitat.
•The Earth’s primary biomes include deserts, forests, grasslands, tundra, and several types of aquatic environments.

• Each biome consists of many ecosystems whose communities have adapted to the small differences in climate and the environment inside the biome.
Mojave Desert
African Savanna
Taiga Forest
Arctic Tundra
In this activity you will research an ecosystem in a biome and construct a food web.
You will also complete a Biome Ecosystem Information Sheet as well as a World Map for your ecosystem biome.
And, you will present your ecosystem research to the class in a whiteboard presentation.

Procedure:1. Research the organisms in your
biome and construct a food web on the whiteboard.

Procedure:2. Label the niche of the
organisms in your food web:• producers,• primary consumer,• secondary consumer, etc…
3. Label the flow of energy through your food web. Include the energy source and the eventual fate of the energy.

Procedure:4. Research your biome and
identify an additional producer and two consumers. Add the names of these additional organisms to your food web.
5. Write the name of your biome on your whiteboard along with a key identifying all of the labels your food web includes.

Whiteboard Presentation:1. Location of your Biome.2. Characteristics of your Biome.3. Discuss food web structure: producers, consumers,
decomposers, etc…4. Discuss the flow of energy through your food web.5. Discuss the niche of the additional organisms your
group added to ecosystem ecosystem.
