TRAINING (TAACCCT) GRANT
OCtech’s Accelerating Advanced Manufacturing and Global Logistics Careers Partnership (AAMGLCP)
$2.5M award focused on Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Transportation, and Logistics
Round 2 Project that leveraged student support services created in Round 1 Consortium project (ASSIST)
Created new stackable credentials for Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering/Instrumentation, Industrial Electronics, and Industrial Maintenance Technology, as well as a new certificate program in Logistics.
26 interactive modular courses created for the Project in conjunction with subcontractor Central Carolina Technical College

CAST UDL GUIDELINES
Multiple Means of Engagement - learning environments include multiple avenues that effectively capture interest and sustain deep, meaningful interactions with core material.
Multiple Means of Representation - convert sensations into meaningful information by including different perceptions, language, expressions, symbols and comprehension.
Multiple Means of Action and Expression –plan, organize and initiate purposeful behavior by providing multiple means of physical action, expression and communication, especially with assessments.
COURSE DEVELOPMENT TEAM
The Collaborative Process between OCtech Instructors (Content Experts) and Microburst Learning
Dr. James Payne served as the Project Director and managed all grant activities, including course development
OCtech faculty were paired with content creation specialists at Microburst to ensure that existing and new course materials were OER and met UDL guidelines.
Microburst recorded hundreds of hours of footage in OCtech classrooms and laboratories.
COURSE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The Collaborative Process between OCtech Instructors (Content Experts) and Microburst Learning
Each course was split into three deliverables:
A - Course Outline and Storyboard
B - Course Development
C - Content Review/Pilot
INSTRUCTOR APPLICATION OF NEW COURSES
Each Instructor at OCtech has the freedom to use the interactive modules in a way that best suits their course and program:
Hybrid Format – increases access for adult students who work or have limited time during the day
Flipped Classroom Format – allows students to be fully prepared for laboratory exercises and make the most of their time in lab
Supplemental Activities in Face-to-Face Courses – various modules used to support lab activities and diversify lecture in traditional format courses
Middle College – increases the flexibility for Middle College students taking courses at Cope Area Career Center and on the OCtech campus
OCTECH’S MIDDLE COLLEGE
OCtech's Middle College allows ambitious high school students in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties the opportunity to earn college credits before they graduate. Courses count toward high school requirements and translate into college credit hours for a two-year or four-year degree.
Middle College students make up 19% of the College’s overall enrollment
Classes are offered at high schools, online, and on campus
Middle College Pathways increase enrollment in OCtech and serve as an early feeder program to serve new and emerging industries in our area
MIDDLE COLLEGE ENGINEERING AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PATHWAYS
The use of these interactive courses has been especially valuable for students in our Middle College program. Middle College students can choose one of four Engineering Pathways:
Engineering Technology (PLTW)
Mechatronics
Biotechnical Engineering Technology
Machine Tool Technology
MECHATRONICS MIDDLE COLLEGE PATHWAY
Increased enrollment in Mechatronics through Middle College pathways and full-time adult students
Volvo and Boeing and their feeder industries are heavily automated and will require Mechatronics technicians.
Mechatronics Middle College pathway is already helping to meet the needs of new and emerging industries that will need workers to fill these high-skill jobs.
MECHATRONICS AT COPE AREA CAREER CENTER
Students in the Mechatronics Pathways can take Robotics and Automated Controls (AMT 105 and AMT 205) which can jumpstart students’ Associate Degree at OCtech
The labs at Cope Area Career Center are equipped with computers, VEX robots, Lynx Motion robots, CNC machines, and other support equipment to provide high-skill training
The new interactive online courses provide supplemental instruction for Middle College students
MECHATRONICS AT COPE AREA CAREER CENTER
Basic Industrial Skills I was created under the Round 1 DOL TAACCCCT project.
Basic Safety Skills
Construction Math Skills
Craft-related Math Skills
Use of Basic Hand Tools
Hybrid Course using multi-media resources including videos and online assessments. The face-to-face component consistedof performance exams for vital lab skills.
MECHATRONICS AT THE MAIN CAMPUS
The new interactive courses have allowed Mechatronics instructors to enhance laboratory activities for existing courses, as well as create new courses. The courses also allow more varied activities involving the FESTO Modular Production System (MPS Line)
OCtech is the only FESTO Authorized and Certified Training Center (FACT) Center in the United States
In Spring 2016, senior Middle College students had the opportunity to attend classes on the OCtech campus
Each semester, Middle College Mechatronics pathway students take field trips to visitOCtech labs for various Advanced Manufacturing activities

Grant-supported summer camps and professional development workshops are available to students and area teachers (elementary, middle, and high school) to help encourage Middle College enrollment:
