TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD SUNDAY 6th AUGUST 2017
The Transfiguration is a prefiguring of
Christ’s glorification. This event, which
took place on Mount Tabor, was a boost
to the disciples’ faith amid predictions
that Jesus would be put to death. In the
midst of whatever is dragging us down
at the moment, we have an opportunity to thank God for the
promises made to us, and the chance to deepen our trust in
the ever-present hand of God & transform our lives into the
person of Christ. Fr. Anthony De Mello tells the story of
such a metamorphosis in the prayer life of an old man. “I
was a revolutionary when I was young, and all my prayer to
God was: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change the world.’ As I
approached middle age and realized that half of my life was
gone without changing a single soul, I changed my prayer
to: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change all those who come in
contact with me; just my family and friends and I shall be
satisfied.’ Now that I am old and my days are numbered, I
have begun to see how foolish I have been. My one prayer
now is: ’Lord, give me the grace to change myself.’ If I had
prayed for this right from the start, I should not have wasted
my life.”

As they all break up for well deserved summer holidays, the Parish, thank them for their wonderful work and whilst we ponder the thought of a month and a half of entertaining our dear offspring, we make one simple prayer that
all the staff have a relaxing time and are refreshed for the next academic year!
