More than 150 years ago, Charles Darwin released

his theory of ‘Biological Evolution’. Later on Herbert

‘Survival of the fittest’. The crux of his theory is -- Only those

have survived who showed strong evidences of adaptability

or those who have changed according to the conditions.

This 150 year old theory has a new and strong

message for today’s information technology sector and it’s

stakeholders.

We are witnessing a great change in our lives and

societies. Our technology consumption patterns are

changing, the virtue of ‘smart’ is widely getting accepted.

We are experiencing smart phones, smart homes, smart

cities and most importantly the phenomena of ‘Internet

of Things’ has come up as a future of technology. Now,

considering the relevance of this theory, we can say that in

today’s IT industry is going to witness ‘The Survival of the

Smartest’.

This smart transformation is expected to be witnessed

during this year’s Gitex Technology Week, Dubai. Technology

organizations from world over are set to showcase their

strength in Dubai during the Gitex Show.

This issue of The Integrator has highlighted some of the

key transformations that are happening. How the IT system

integrator, solution provider segment is adapting towards

this change is the key question. The cover story is this issue

has examined the market status of NAS and how enterprises

IBM and HCL Technologies have

formed a strategic initiative to

accelerate the adoption of the

Internet of Things (IoT). In October,

the partners will be opening an

Incubation Centre in Noida, India,

where they will jointly develop IoT

solutions.

Chris O’Connor, General Manager

of Offerings, Internet of Things, IBM,

said, “IBM and HCL see a huge market

transformation in process. It’s not

a single industry or a single space.

The notion that sensors and the

interconnectivity of sensors is widely

available is changing everything. The

real problem today is making the

business adjustments necessary to

take advantage of these capabilities.”

“The intersection of employees,

data and technology-enabled

intelligent machines is creating

fundamental shifts in enterprise

business models, leading to not only

increased productivity and efficiency,

but also opening a plethora of new

revenue opportunities for companies,”

explains Sukamal Banerjee, Executive

Vice President, Engineering and R&D

Services, and Head of IoT Business,

HCL Technologies. “Our partnership

with IBM will provide replicable use

cases and POCs for companies and

The partnership will initially

focus on specific verticals, including

industrial and manufacturing and

smart facilities. Specifically, they

will co-develop solutions around

“connected products and operations”

like remote monitoring, predictive

maintenance, smart inventory/asset

management, smart building and

facility management and others.

IBM, HCL Technologies Join Hands IoT

Juniper Networks and Aerohive Networks have recently formed a technology alliance to deliver a simple, secure, and cloud-managed wired and wireless solution to distributed enterprises, including in retail, K-12 education, as well as state and local government customer segments.

Aerohive cloud Wi-Fi solutions coupled with Juniper Networks high-performance switches, comprehensive network management, and security solutions will help enterprises simplify network planning, orchestration, and deployment.

Denise Shiffman, corporate vice president, Switching and Security Products & Solutions, Juniper Networks, said, “We build innovative solutions that reduce complexity and scale with our customers, enabling them to quickly bring new services to market and deliver richer end-user experiences. Juniper partners with Aerohive for cloud WLANs

Brocade announced the launch of Brocade SDN Controller 2.0, a commercial distribution of the OpenDaylight (ODL) controller based on the Lithium ODL release, and two new software-defined networking (SDN) applications—Brocade Topology Manager and Brocade Flow Manager.

These new solutions reinforce Brocade’s leadership in open source SDN, providing greater innovation, interoperability and choice while eliminating vendor lock-in for customers.

New SDN applications complement this latest release of the Brocade SDN Controller. The Brocade Topology Manager, a free SDN application, displays discovered

network topology, allowing administrators to create a list of nodes and conduct simple searches for nodes. The Brocade Flow Manager extends the capabilities of the Brocade Topology Manager by enabling users to view and interact with the network topology using near-real-time information to perform traffic engineering and network segmentation based on end-to-end flow views.

system (SMS).

24online CRM comes with an

array of features such as trouble

ticketing, workflow management,

calendar and alerts. It also has an

admin dashboard which can help

ISPs streamline internal as well as

external business processes. The

CRM is integrated with the 24online

billing server so it can be deployed

seamlessly without high network

level challenges and disruptions.

According to an official

statement of the company, in order

to enhance the ease of use and

connectivity on the move, 24online

also now has a mobile app for

admin and subscribers. Using the

admin app, users managing the

system can perform actions like user

renewal, user disconnection, live

user search, user Internet plan, check

system health and generate reports.

Meanwhile, subscribers using the

app can manage their data usage,

Internet plan, bills and renewals.

Elitecore launches CRM and mobile apps for 24online

Infoblox Inc., the network control company, announced Infoblox Identity Mapping, which bridges the gap between network security and user identity by intelligently correlating two previously separate sets of data, making it easier for network administrators to locate the source of security events, track mobile devices, monitor network usage and more.

Infoblox is the industry leader in enterprise-grade DNS, DHCP and IP address management, the category known as DDI. With Infoblox Identity Mapping, IP address tracked by Infoblox can be linked to user authentication events in Microsoft Active Directory logs – the first time an enterprise-grade DDI solution has been able to make this connection. Until now, figuring out the relationship between network IP addresses and actual users has been difficult, error prone, and time-consuming.

Infoblox, a Microsoft Gold Partner, brings Active Directory data into its IP address management (IPAM) database, providing a single point of control where end-user identities are linked with IP addresses and network activity. No additional software or agents are required to provide this connection.

Beyond Microsoft Active Directory, Infoblox has created Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow customers to connect their DDI platforms to other third-party data sources to further enrich that value of their IPAM data.

Infoblox Brings First Enterprise-Grade DDI Solution with Identity Mapping

In another organizational restructuring, Cisco is set to streamline its Internet of Everything (IoE) and cloud operations, expanding the roles of two of company’s key executives.

Cisco is consolidating all of Cisco’s IoE software businesses under Rowan Trollope, currently Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Collaboration Technology Group, and will also be replacing Kip Compton, as the leader of its IoT (Internet of Things) Systems and Software Group. Compton will be reassigned to an as yet unannounced position within Cisco.

Cisco is also consolidating three separate cloud organisations under one executive – Yvette Kanouff, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Service Provider Video Software & Solutions Group.

Kanouff and Trollope will continue to report to Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Pankaj Patel.

Now reporting to Trollope will be Mala Anand, Senior VP of Cisco’s Services Platforms Group; John Oberon, who leads IoT Software; and Tony Shakib, who leads Cisco’s Industry Vertical Solutions Group.

IoT Systems will be realigned to the Cisco’s Core Product Groups as it becomes more of a mainstream product category within the company. IoT Systems Hardware, led by Richard House, will be part of Senior Vice President and General Manager Ravi Cherukuri’s core hardware group; and IoT Systems Software, led by Rajeev Taneja, will be part of Senior Vice President and General Manager Ravi Chandrasekaran’s core software organisation.

Now reporting to Kanouff will be Gee Rittenhouse, Vice President and General Manager of Cisco’s Cloud Virtualisation Group; and Faiyaz Shahpurwala, Senior Vice President of Cisco’s Cloud Infrastructure and Managed Services organisation. Kanouff will also continue to oversee the Service Provider Video Software & Solutions Group.

New CEO Chuck Robbins has been looking to flatten Cisco’s organizational structure in an effort to accelerate operations since he was named CEO in May.

Real-time IT management company, ManageEngine

launched the latest version of ADAudit Plus, its web-based Active Directory (AD) auditing software. The new version includes a search utility that offers a consolidated audit trail, which enables AD administrators to analyze security incidents contextually. The software packs another new feature that provides a bird’s eye view of all the Active Directory changes that occurred in a specified time period.

While investigating Active Directory security incidents, administrators must elicit a complete audit trail of what the involved attacker may have done or accessed. Conventional tools, such as Event Viewer and PowerShell, can extract audit data but never offer the complete visibility or context required for such investigations — especially if they involve an insider who’s an AD expert, wherein detection can be complicated. Such situations require that the investigators glean every piece of information that could have had even a remote relevance to the investigation. They then must view that information contextually to establish a relationship, which helps in getting to the bottom of an incident.

“From our interactions with our customers, we realized that in addition to

quickly tracing the footsteps of a compromised account, administrators investigating AD security alerts or incidents require a little background of what had been done with that account. Detect Threats Using the New ADAudit Plus Search UtilityUsing the new search utility, administrators can extract a consolidation of three different audit summaries, as listed below, for any user account (including an administrator) for a chosen period.

• Actions by the account: This is a summary of all configuration changes that the specified account carried out on other AD objects.

• Logon history of the account: Every computer that the account accessed — interactively or remotely — is listed in this summary, along with details such as logon

hours and IP addresses.• Object history: This

provides background on the specified account, summarizing what changes have been made to its properties and by whom. For example, it would show who changed the account’s permissions or passwords.

Every detail presented in the summary is a link, which, when clicked, displays an elaborate report for closer inspection. Similarly, the search also produces a consolidated audit summary for any given group or computer object, all of which would satisfy a compliance auditor if an account is selected for an audit.

From an incident investigation and management standpoint, an administrator can instantly learn what changes an attacker carried out in AD and which computers were compromised. This instant insight enables the

admin to quickly restore secure AD configurations and isolate the compromised computers, thereby mitigating any effects of the attack.

Additionally, this search strings together all the clues, which, when analyzed together, offer a context that either exposes an attacker instantly or highlights the indicators of a compromise that lead to the attacker. This capability enables AD administrators to detect threats — especially insider attacks — which could be missed when security events are analyzed as isolated instances.

The use of mobile computing devices such

as smartphones and tablets as tools for smart learning is on the rise in the Middle East. Recognizing this, Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon has implemented ubiquitous high speed Wi-Fi connectivity across its campus with technologies from Aruba Networks, an HP company. The solution serves as a platform for collaboration, supports voice services for students and faculty, and is being leveraged to increase engagement and satisfaction of guests and visitors who attend the many events, seminars and conferences held at the University.

“Wi-Fi opens up a range of possibilities to increase productivity and learning and is imperative to continuous access of information, applications, people and other resources. Our ambitious plan was to make fast, secure and resilient wireless connectivity available across the entire campus, whilst providing our students and staff the very best infrastructure” said Ziad Eid, IT Director at USEK. “With over 8500 students, 1200 instructors, 400 staff and thousands of visitors and guests dependent on this deployment, we knew that we needed the industry leader’s support”

As a customer with a six year long business relationship with Aruba, USEK was aware that the vendor had a clearly defined product roadmap that accommodated scalability and future-proofing. Guided by Triple C, an Aruba partner, the University selected Aruba access points (APs) that could support high user density without performance degradation, and extend

coverage across large areas such as the auditorium, theater, cafeteria and outdoor areas. Smart features of the Aruba solution such as the ability to prioritize voice traffic from Microsoft Skype for Business, a business-critical communications application and ClientMatch - the automatic and seamless transitioning of users to the best AP for connectivity, particularly impressed Mr. Eid and his team.

USEK decided to use Aruba's 802.11ac products, as these conform to the latest and highest performance international Wi-Fi standard. The large scale project involved the deployment of 570 Aruba AP205 access points for indoor areas, 20 Aruba AP225 access points for the high density common

areas, and 10 Aruba AP275 access points for the outdoor areas. USEK also utilized two Aruba 7220 Mobility Controllers for simplified management of its entire wireless infrastructure. The controllers added a wealth of features including remote management, configuration, reporting, and upgrade from a single pane of glass.

Discuss the objectives of the demo/experience center that Axis has unveiled?The Axis Middle East & Africa Experience Center is designed to provide our partners and customers with opportunity to understand the full range of Axis’ innovative products and solutions and to see how they apply to their businesses. It gives us the opportunity to spend valuable time with our guests to exchange ideas. In addition, the center is joined with the training facility, allowing for classroom style presentations and tailor made training upon request.

Elaborate how you intend to schedule partner and customer visits?The center is open for all who are interested in visiting. We have had a lot of interest and we are currently scheduling guests from across the region at a rate of two a week.

Until now and before you unveiled the experience center, how were you handling demos for partners?Previously the only options we had were to either conduct onsite presentations at the customer premises or to accompany them to existing sites in order for them to gain a real life scenario. Though we will continue to conduct similar demonstrations, the experience center certainly allows us to present various solutions in a controlled environment.

Will you replace some cameras as newer models are launched?At Axis, we introduce anywhere from 30-40 new products a year so we will constantly be updating the products on display on a quarterly rate.

With such an exhaustive camera range, do you believe that the 50+ plus installed currently is fairly representative?They certainly are as we include all the key products that address the customers’ requirements for indoor/outdoor solutions across the various segments we cater to.

Josua Braun, Worldwide Senior Product Marketing Manager Storage at NETGEAR says, “Typical NAS customers are Small and Medium businesses, but we have many enterprise customers who use NAS devices for departmental storage, as backup targets and in distributed environments with many branch offices. SMB NAS can provide very compelling alternatives for archiving purposes as well.”

The NAS market continues to grow in both consumer and commercial

segments. In the commercial segment, NAS is seen as a very versatile technology for a broad variety of use cases from SMB to even enterprise segment. The global enterprise NAS storage market is set to grow at a CAGR of 25.85% over the period 2014-2019, according to research figures from Research and Markets.

Enhanced NAS systems with are helping build software defined datacenters. More and more customers are using NAS protocols to connect their storage infrastructure in a shared environment, across different types of workloads ranging from traditional file services to databases.

Graham Porter (Channel Manager Middle East, North Africa & Pakistan) at NetApp says, “As data centers are more virtualized at the server layer, the software defined approach fits very well with NAS storage infrastructure layers. These enterprise capabilities now become more and more available and adopted in the SMB space.

SMB customers need solutions that meet their limited budgets and yet do not compromise with performance such as frequently scheduled backups. Further, as these are growing organisations, the scalability to grow storage capabilities is significant.

Synology recently enhanced its NAS product line for the SMB with the launches of DS215+ & DS715. According to Synology, they meet the demand of companies whihc require high performance all-in-one server with complete cloud solutions for data backup and sharing at affordable price points.

“Instead of deploying large scale of data center or renting server services from hosting vendor, Synology NAS, could be an all-in-one server that can plays different roles that meet the needs of SMB’s IT deployment, such as directory server, DNS server, radius server, SSO server, VPN server, and even mail server without extra purchase. The free built-in applications and easy-to-use interface save businesses considerable cost of IT deployment and fee of outsourced management,” adds Victor.

QNAP is offering solutions with added functionalities for SMB and enterprise users. They are striving to meet specific demands from different user segments. For instance, a QNAP NAS cluster can support up to 912TB capacity and 40GbE network ports for power enterprise users. QNAP provides 1U, 2U, 3U and 4U rack mount NAS serves. These are used in server rooms for data-backup, archiving, Internet/Extranet file sharing

Grham says, “NetApp NAS systems can be integrated into the customer’s IT environment with minimal-to-no disruption. Data ONTAP storage operating system running on these storage arrays, provides the storage efficiency features desired by the customer; including deduplication, compression, snapshot, cloning, and on board data protection. Most importantly, scaling up and out can be done non-disruptively by just adding or upgrading nodes in a storage cluster.”

Building the Private CloudThe proliferation of mobile devices in Middle East has boost the growth of cloud storage adoption for data sharing and

storage. Businesses and enterprises all around the world has been leveraging public clouds for their server resources and accessibility of various devices for data access and storage. However, public cloud is still insufficient in terms of data security & privacy, manageability, and scalability.

Victor says, “Instead of relying on pure public cloud, private cloud is an ideal way to centrally store the crucial data and files of enterprises with advanced privacy & security protection, higher manageability, and scalability. For those who still have needs of public cloud, Synology also offer an option of public cloud integration into our NAS system, which allows users to customize their cloud storage management.”

NAS is enabling companies to build private cloud solutions as an alternative to public cloud which is yet to win over trust for data security when it comes to the most critical information from a company’s perspective.

Josua says, “Cloud storage has a lot of advantages – but also some limitations, especially in bandwidth-constraint areas. This is the reason why many of our customers deploy “Personal Cloud” solutions, were the NAS is owned by the customer (or the reseller in a “as a service” setup) and remote access to the NAS on own premises ensures privacy and performance when the data are being accessed in the LAN.”

NAS based private clouds are gaining tractions in enterprise environments because of the advantages they offer vis-à-vis the public cloud options.

Tim says, “Now NAS private cloud is a preferred solution for enterprise users, because of stable, flexible feature, easier to configure, easier extensions, multiple features and lower costs. Enterprise users worldwide are changing to NAS structure when they consider to upgrade company storage systems.”

According to Josua, the personal cloud is becoming more and more a discussion point especially for smaller customers who do not have complex VPN-solutions in place taking care of remote access and collaboration.

He adds, “IT is seeking for ways to reduce “Shadow IT”, for example the extensive use of Dropbox in business

environments which imposes incalculable risk and cost. Solutions that allow for “personal cloud functionalities” such as access from anywhere, on any device and collaboration on own hardware is on the rise. Important though for these solutions are security aspects, many vendors require port forwarding, as opposed to VPN technology, such as ReadyCLOUD. Also extremely important is ease of use. A personal cloud service does not have to require more than installing an app and setting up a user ID.”

Surveillance & Other Key VerticalsNAS solutions are seeing some significant success in verticals like surveillance, which requires data storage backup and analytics.The huge demand for security solutions and ever improving camera technology are drivers in this market.

Josua says, “In general, data protection and data provisioning – which is the main purpose of a NAS – is a need for every vertical. But indeed, we are focusing on some specific areas were we see a lot of success and demand. One of them is surveillance – were we offer both our own NVR solution and are compatible with major NVR software vendors as well as more than 2000 camera models.”

Other verticals for Netgear in offering NAS solutions include branch office environments, manufacturing and education. Further, Jousa says that cloud services reselling in on the rise from its resellers. More and more of Netgear’s systems are provided by resellers in a “as a service model” with solutions such as “DRaaS” in place.”

Synlogy has identified Surveillance as a specific vertical market that NAS could offer additional benefits. Further, surveillance is a growth segment across the region and globally as well and NVR solutions with analytics software serves dual purpose of surveillance as well as analytics of customer traffics and behavior.

Victor says, “Synology is going to release our first dedicated NVR product

He says, “There is no direct correlation as NAS solutions are currently being used in a diverse range of verticals ranging from banking, oil and gas to telecommunications. will continue to move in the market. From the perspective of technologies, which are the key trends for your business? We took a jump in the area of technologies in software defined networking. SDN is a priority area for us. We are focusing more towards cost effective solutions. Telecom companies will get a great benefit from these solutions.

Secondly, we are looking at hyper convergence as a big focus area. Other areas such

as applications networking, network optimization. We have recently tied up with Fluke Networks in this area.

Thirdly, we also witness information security as a strong area of action. We are looking at these three areas as our priority.

In addition to this, I also witness that enterprise customers are moving towards open stack architecture in terms of software defined networking is concerned.

Etisalat announced that it will accelerate adoption of mobility for enterprises in

the UAE, enabling business customers to meet their organizational demands through secure cloud-based solutions.

In 2015, the IT sector in the UAE is forecast to grow over Dh18 billion from about Dh17 billion last year.[1] More recently, tablet computers have become more popular among consumers as they provide computing power to the user with mobility.

Prominent among the new technologies was Platform-as-a-Service, with 80 percent expecting PaaS to have a critical role in their DevOps initiatives. Among the cited benefits of using PaaS were improved developer and IT operations collaboration (46 percent), more stable and reliable development environments (40 percent), greater standardization of development environments (37 percent), development speed (36 percent), and faster access to open source community-driven innovation (34 percent). According to the Infobrief: “Platform-as-a-service integrates cloud infrastructure, self-service developer platform and tools, and lifecycle management with DevOps

processes--speeding time to value for both developers and operations.”

With respect to both PaaS and DevOps more broadly, the impact is seen primarily in terms of growth metrics rather than cutting costs. In IDC’s words, “customer facing benefits lead the way” with increased customer satisfaction and engagement (49 percent), increased employee productivity (46 percent), and increased company revenues (45 percent) the top three responses to the question “By the end of 2017, what impact do you expect DevOps to have on the overall performance of the business?” Reduction of operational expenses gets mentioned as well (44 percent), but it’s not the main motivation.

The expected impact of DevOps on software release cycles is especially notable--specifically an 10x average expected increase in the

total number of annual code releases with an average of 30 percent of development projects enabled by DevOps by 2017. The pace may still not be at the level of an Amazon Web Services or a Facebook but it’s still a shift from the majority (63 percent) pushing out two or fewer releases annually per application today to 69 percent having quarterly or monthly releases. At the same time, it’s worth noting that it will be important to enable data sharing and other connections between these new developments and existing applications. 60 percent of DevOps projects will need to integrate with legacy systems according to the survey.

This survey primarily focused on key technologies and technology enablers

related to DevOps. However, in DevOps, tools are tightly coupled to process and culture. Agile methodologies (43 percent), implementing common monitoring across dev and ops (43 percent) , and broadly enabling self-service (38 percent) were all seen as organizational responses to a DevOps strategy. Indeed, the open source aspect plays into DevOps in a broader way than its use in popular DevOps tooling. That’s because DevOps mirrors central aspects of open source as an approach to developing software in areas such as collaboration, transparency, and working across distributed teams. DevOps uses open source but it also embodies the open source way of developing innovative software.

The external storage systems (ESS) market in Europe, the

Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) declined 11% year over year to $1.63 billion in the second quarter of 2015, according to the IDC EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker 2Q15.

While high-end storage systems fell 33% YoY in the region, flash storage systems recorded double-digit growth propelled especially by all-flash arrays (AFAs), which grew 113% YoY in user value. The total storage capacity in the region grew 2% YoY to 2.8 exabytes in the second quarter.

The ESS market value in EMEA was heavily impacted by an unfavorable exchange rate in the region, contributing to its decline for yet another quarter. In euro terms, however, the trend was positive, resulting in more than 10% growth YoY and a value of almost €1.5 billion.

The unfavorable combination of heavy currency swings, longer purchase cycles, and economic instability in the region was the main factor hindering growth in the quarter. In addition, increasing adoption of emerging technologies such as hyper converged and

software-defined storage solutions continued to further cannibalize the storage hardware market in EMEA.

"In this quarter, the disruption in the European storage market driven by the transition to the 3rd Platform has been more pronounced, with the flash segment now officially accounting for half of total EMEA sales including both AFA and HFA [hybrid flash array] systems, while AFA alone grew by 113% year on year," said Silvia Cosso, senior research analyst, European Infrastructure, at IDC. "The ODM [original design manufacturer] segment also showed a strong uptake, indicating a clear rise in public cloud adoption by European enterprises. This happened at the expense of traditional systems more geared toward the 2nd Platform such as many high-end platforms, which declined 33% year on year."

Regional HighlightsThe Western European

external storage market fell 12% YoY in dollars in the quarter but flash storage remained a bright spot. The all-flash segment in Western Europe delivered the strongest

YoY growth in the region (115%), a few percentage points higher than the regional all-flash growth, demonstrating that enterprises here assess long-term TCO when planning storage investment for their newer 3rd Platform–friendly workloads and applications.

"A combination of factors such as rapidly growing data volumes, shrinking IT budgets, and the compelling need to execute on digital transformation strategies is driving enterprises in Western Europe to drift away from traditional high-end storage systems and spend their storage budgets more strategically," said Archana Venkatraman, senior analyst, European storage research, IDC. "IDC is also seeing a wave of fragmentation within enterprises in Western Europe with IT choosing specific technologies, such as hyperconverged or flash storage, to suit specific workloads rather than investing in a single solution for all its storage needs."

The number of flash deals is increasing every quarter, thanks to falling prices, growing

use cases, and enterprise appetite to spend on newer technologies. Adoption of flash, particularly all-flash arrays, will further accelerate in Western Europe as organizations move toward a software-defined and flash-based datacenter architecture.

Meanwhile, the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA) external storage market declined 14% compared with 2Q14, accounting for $435 million in user value.

The Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) market dropped sharply (-29%), which was exclusively due to the Russian market performance.
