operating systems, and software applica-

tion and production sequences are often

supplemented by systems for time and

attendance, shop floor data collection

The integration platform B-COMM has

been developed for integrating all data

collection processes into the IT struc-

tures. As already suggested by

its name, B-COMM has been pro-

grammed in Java, thus allowing smooth

communication between the data collec-

tion terminals and the relevant software

applications – independently of the

computer and operating systems.

The decisive advantage of the modern

open architecture of B-COMM is that the

interface has to be programmed only

once, but can still be used on all plat-

forms. Furthermore, the individual

B-COMM modules and software

applications can also be installed on

different computers.

B-COMM is prepared for processing

international fonts, allowing it to be used

worldwide.

When an order is complete, the system sup-plies the figures for the post-calculation promptly and thus provides a basis for future calculations. B-COMM Server

All objects and methods invoked by the

other components via the Remote Meth-

od Invocation (RMI) are provided by the

server, which in addition also manages

the complete configuration of the overall

system. To do so, B-COMM Server com-

municates with all components and the

connected application.

B-COMM IO

The communication component is

responsible for the data exchange be-

tween the terminals and the application

software. Depending on the require-

ments, data transfer takes place in both

directions, while all data records and

activities are logged and saved to a

booking file.

B-COMM GUI

The graphic display for managing and

configuring the overall system – for

example displays of users, clients,

channels, network adapters, terminals

and jobs – is guaranteed by B-COMM GUI.

The components can be

installed several times separately on

the client side.

Server room 1: B-COMM Server, the «centrepiece» of the system.

Server room 2: This is where the appli-cation that exchanges data with B-COMM for further processing (anal-ysis) has been installed.

Administrator: The administrator uses B-COMM GUI for system maintenance via the graphical user interface.

Payroll accounting: If biometric Kaba terminals are in use, the finger templates can be recorded directly by another B-COMM GUI. Security

officer: The stand-alone door components are managed by another B-COMM GUI.

Admin deputy:

Should the admin not be on site, his deputy can manage the system easi-ly from his workstation via another B-COMM GUI.

CardLink ™

This optional module extends your

application by a stand-alone access

control solution. It integrates the differ-

ent wireless door components into your

customer application as an integral

system via the RFID-based virtual

CardLink network.

Depending on the area of use and

application, a wide range of optional

modules are available for B-COMM.

They can be combined as desired to

produce a customised solution.

User administration

This module allows users to be entered

and managed and specific rights to be

assigned within B-COMM. An administra-

tor provided with special rights has

a superior function and can define

individually the rights of other users.

Data communication

This module is used to define the maxi-

mum number of terminals that can be

logged on. Data communication – which

can be acquired in stages, depending on

the user’s needs – guarantees the trans-

fer of the collection data (booking data)

from the terminals to the application.

Terminal status

This program, installed on any desired

computer within the network, allows the

system administrator to call up the

communication states of the terminals

(»accessible via network«, »not accessi-

ble«, etc.). Error and alarm records

(»vandalism: terminal open!«, etc.) or

door alarms can also be displayed.

Priority setting of these states can

be done individually.

The B-COMM - Option Biometrics not only supports you in recording and managing the templates but also distributes them to the connected biometric terminals.

The terminal status provides the system admin-istrator with an overview of the communication states of all terminals.

1) The user’s access rights are assigned and managed centrally in an access control system; the user receives a badge or a key tag, for example at the reception, in the HR or security department.

Note: Access rights stored on a lost or not returned badge need not to be deleted manually at each door because the access rights automatically expire when a defined time is up or the user leaves the building.

2) Each time the user enters the building, the access rights are granted directly at the entrance for a specific period.

6) When a user leaves the building, an exit reader automatically deletes any still existing access rights (i.e. invalidates the badge).

Optional modules for individual solutions adjusted to the needs

Biometrics

This B-COMM - Option Biometrics mod-

ule allows you to use biometrics in all ar-

eas of data collection. It conveniently

uses the fingerprint for biometric identi-

fication.

The module supplements the terminals,

in order to register and manage the fin-

ger characteristics and distribute them

to the connected biometric terminals.

This also works with globally active

enterprises across national boundaries

from one location to the next one.

AVISO

This optional programming module

simplifies the creation and adaptation

of AVISO routines of any type.

The script language available in the

terminals guarantees a possible

extension of the firmware functionality.

The B-COMM - Option Biometrics not only supports you in recording and managing the templates but also distributes them to the connected biometric terminals.

Simple handling, high user acceptance and use in any data collection system - these are the advantages of biometric data collection.

Customer-specific requirements are set user-friendly in the Parameter Editor Collection and stored in the terminal.

Several application interfaces

This option makes it possible to define

more than one online application. The

entered data records, for example from

time and attendance, shop floor data

collection or access control, can be

distributed and transferred to the

different applications, depending on the

record type / record type modification.

E-mail server

This optional module allows a connec-

tion to an e-mail server to be estab-

lished. When freely definable events

occur, for example start/stop of a

stream, an e-mail is automatically

sent to the configured addressees.

This allows a quick and competent

reaction when a fault occurs.

Terminal software

The Parameter Editor Collection (PEC)

can be used to customise the numerous

terminal functions for different require-

ments. The initialised parameters or

factory settings can be edited to meet

customer-specific requirements and

saved in the terminal.
