DECONS TRUC TEDWAVE SMore boho babe than beauty queen, the newest curls are a study in free-flowing fabulosity.

1SPRITZ a texturizing spray onto damp hair and blow-dry, using your hands to give the roots body and volume. Keep it messy and

imperfect; smooth hair is not the idea here.

2GRAB a rotating curling iron, as theyre designed to create relaxed, beachy waves with the press of a button.

Position the clamp about 2 inches above the ends. This gives you that loose feeling so your waves arent too done, says hair-stylist Nathaniel Hawkins. It also helps to work in sections slightly larger than the diameter of the curling-iron barrel so you get softer, less defined waves. Rule of thumb: If your barrel is 1 inch, the sections should be 1 inches.

3FINISH by misting on more texturizer and adding a shot of dry shampoo. If it comes in an aerosol can, dont shake

it up a lot, says Hawkins. This way, not too much powder comes shooting out. You want a subtle spritz to leave hair with a gritty, modern vibe.

Drop the BrushThe trick is to not brush out the curls, since that

produces too much volume, says Hawkins. Instead, turn your head upside down and shake it to loosen up those

curls, then quickly rake your fingers from the scalp to the

tips of your hair three or four times. If you want

more separation, apply a little texturizing cream.

1EXFOLIATE with a gentle lip scrub to get rid of dead skin. Slather it on, then use a toothbrushor the handy vibrating tool

2PAT on a hydrating lip balm. You want to smooth out any lines and cracks along the surface. Then blot off excess with a tissue.

3SWIPE a pencil onto the center of your lips while your mouth is closed, and blend out the color with your fingers for a soft,

lived-in look. Let the color set for a few minutes, then press it with a tissue so the hue appears a bit sheer and worn off, says makeup artist Daniel Martin. (He says Kate Bosworth swears by this technique.)

Make It PopFor a more high-def pout, apply lipstick straight from the tube, and blend it on your lips with your finger. You achieve a certain payoff that a brush cant replicate, says Martin. To highlight the shape, trace concealer around your mouths perimeter with an angled brush or crayon, softening the edges with your finger.

FRENCH NOU VE AU Polish skills sorta shaky? No worries. A less-than-perfect finish puts a trendy twist on this throwback style.

1BUFF your nails to smooth out any ridges, and paint two coats of a sheer, natural base color over the entire surface of all the nails.

Let dry for a few minutes.

2DIP a brush into gold polish, and loosely swipe it over just the tips of your nails. Seriously, dont waste time agonizing over

each brushstroke. A typical French manicure is clean and precise, but this new look is more carefree at the edges, so its perfect for doing at home, says pro manicurist Honey. Its a great day-to-night look.

3CLEAN UP any major slips with a cotton swab soaked in polish remover. Seal with a topcoat to prevent scuffs and keep your

    golden tips super-shiny.

Wipe Out SpotsWhen a zit strikes, dab a pea-size amount of 1 percent hydrocortisone cream onto the bump. This helps calm the redness and reduces inflammation, says Martin. Next, use undereye concealer on top of the red mark. Many concealers are designed to minimize puffiness under the eyes, but they work equally well on a pimple, explains Martin. Stipple on concealer with a precision brush, let it sit for two minutes, then gently buff the edges around the blemish.

F ILTER-FREE R ADIANCETheres no shame in selfie-amping apps, but with these glow-boosting tricks and tools you may no longer need them.

1PREP freshly cleansed skin using one of the new biocellulose masks, which are sheets of cellular fiber that deliver mega

amounts of moisture while sealing it into your skin with a cool, gel-like texture. Its like splashing water on your face but keeping it there, says N.Y.C. dermatologist Joshua Zeichner. Leave the sheet on your face for a few minutes, then rub in any excess residue like a cream. (You can skip your moisturizer.)

2DAB a small amount of liquid foundation onto your skin with a buffing brush. Whats that? Its like a giant toothbrush,

says Martin. Unlike a wedge sponge or traditional makeup brush, this new tool is shaped to easily glide around the contours of your face, and it features a pad of bristles that evenly distribute particles, sans streaking. Working the brush in circular motions, blend foundation onto your skin starting in the center of your face and moving out to the edges, says Martin, the way you would wax your car. This technique creates a beautiful airbrushed effect.

3FINISH an oily T-zone with a high-definition powder, which is so delicate that it cuts unwanted shine without the

weight of a typical powder, so its not cakey, says Martin. (You can bypass this step if you prefer a dewier look.)

Perfect the RestThe beauty of this look? Its less dramatic than the standard smoky eye, so you dont need to go bare everywhere else. Try a berry lip stain or balm with a touch of sheen, says Martin. A contoured cheek works too. Just sweep a bronzer into the hollows of your cheeks and under-neath the cheekbone for a little definition, he says.

COLORF ULSMOK Y E YE S Forgot the rules of eyeliner 101? Good! A rebellious feel is the goal nowthink bedhead for your eyes.

1APPLY primer to your lids first for longer-lasting color. Then trace around your eyes with a dual-ended eye marker, one tip with

black liquid liner and the other with metallic green, blue, or purple cream shadow. (Jewel tones flatter most complexions and eye colors, says Martin.) Work the liquid liner over the top lashes and dot along the bottom, then blur the edges with a pointy cotton swab. This update is smudgy and sexyits a party-girl eye, says Martin. Plus, its easier than a hyper-finished smoky version.

2DRAW the creamy shadow end directly over your liner, and smudge it right on top so the two melt together and give your

    eyes depth, says Martin.

3DIFFUSE these colors over your upper lid with your fingers. Youll get a natural, smoky effect just by letting the colors settle on your

skin. Its much cooler this way, says Martin.

4LAYER a second coat of liquid liner along your lash lines, on top of the cream shadow, for extra intensity. The dry-down is so

quick with these colors that you can layer on more without the risk of clumps, says Martin. Finish with two coats of dark mascara.
