Beforeusingthisprinter,pleasereadandfullycomplywiththeseinstructions,thematerialsafetydatasheet(MSDS)forconsumablesused,andsafetylabelsaffixedtotheprinter.Servicingmustbeperformedonlybyqualifiedpeoplewhoareappropriatelytrained.

■ LiabilityMarkem-Imajeshallnotbeliableforanydamageorinjuryresultingfromanyfailuretofollowthesesafetyinstructions,aswellasgoodmanufacturingpracticesandsafetystandardsthataregenerallyapplicableintheindustry,wheninstalling,usingorservicingMarkem-Imajeequipment.

Any user who modifies or repairs Markem-Imaje equipment, usesconsumables,sparepartsoraccessoriesother than thosesuppliedbyMarkem-Imaje,orfailstocomplywithMarkem-Imajespecificationsshallhavesoleresponsibilityfortheconsequencesthereof.

Markem-Imajeshallnotbeliableforanymalfunctionordamagecausedbyanymodificationof theequipmentoruseof theequipment foranypurposes other than those forwhich it is designed.The user shall besolelyresponsibletotakeanyprecautionsrequiredbyanyusetowhichtheuserputstheMarkem-Imajeequipment.

Markem-Imaje consumables (inks, cleaning products and otherconsumables), spare parts and accessories are designed for usewith Markem-Imaje equipment. Use of consumables, spare parts oraccessories,thatarenotproducedorrecommendedbyMarkem-ImajeforusewiththespecificMarkem-Imajeequipmentmayharmtheequipmentandcauseperformancefailures.

Because Markem-Imaje equipment is tested with Markem-Imajeconsumablesandsparepartsforconformitywithcertainregulationsandsafetystandards,useofnon-Markem-Imajeconsumablesandsparepartsalsomaybe inconsistentwith testingconditionsandaffectcomplianceof the equipment with certain standards. The user shall bear all risksassociatedwithuseofunsuitableconsumablesandspareparts.

■ SafetyDespite all the precautions taken byMarkem-Imaje to guaranteethe safety of its printers, a residual risk remains if certainrecommendationsforusearenotfollowed.Foreachusecaseofthesystem,itisrecommendedtowearadaptedpersonnalprotectiveequipment(safetyshoes,glasses,gloves...).

Disconnect thesystemfrom itspowersourceandcall inqualifiedpersonnelinthefollowingcases:• Thepowercableorplugisdamagedorworn.• Liquidhasbeenspilledonthesystem.• Thesystemhasbeenexposedtorainorwater.• Theprinterisnotfunctioningcorrectlyalthoughtheuserhasfollowedtheinstructions.

• Theprinterhasfallenoritshousingisdamaged.• Theprinterisnotfunctioningcorrectlyandrequiresservice.

When working with hot ink, Markem-Imaje recommends wearingprotectiveglovesandsafetygoggles.

A dry chemical orCO2 extinguisher should be installed near theprinterassuitableextinguishingmedia;donotusewater.

Hot Surfaces.This label indicateshotsurfaces.Topreventinjuryfromburns,donottouchthejetarraysurfaceorhotinkdirectly.Wearprotectiveeyeglasseswhenworkingwithhotink.

Protective Earth.Thislabelidentifiesaprotectiveearthpoint.

High Voltage.Thislabelindicateshighvoltagesinsidetheprinter.Topreventinjuryfromelectricalshock,disconnectthepowercordfromtheelectricaloutletbeforeservicingtheenclosure.

Earth.Thislabelidentifiesanearthpoint.

■ Automatic StartupDonotallowanautomaticpackagingmachinestartupafteraModel5200/5400reset.TheModel5200/5400enduserisresponsibleforconfiguringthesoftwareandinstallingthestatusoutputsignaloptioninawaythatrequirestheoperatortomanuallyrestartthepackagingmachineafteraModel5200/5400conditionhasbeencleared.Anydeviationfromthismethodisunsafeandanyconsequencesshallbeundertheentireresponsibilityoftheuser.

■ UseThe printer is designed for drop-on-demand ink jet printing forindustrialpackagecoding.Anyotheruseoftheprinterisprohibited,andanyconsequencesshallbeundertheentireresponsibilityoftheuser.

■ Handling Aprintheadatoperatingtemperaturemustnotbemoved.Topreventprintheaddamage,thehotprintheadmustfirstbecooleddownusingtheShutdownfeatureandthenpoweredoffbeforebeingmoved.Weightofprintstation(notincludingumbilicallines):

■ Servicing Disconnect the printer from the AC power supply before anyoperationsrequiringcomponentstoberemovedorexchanged.Useappropriatetoolsforanyworkontheprinter.Servicing must be performed only by qualified people who areappropriatelytrained.

■ MaintenanceDonotattempttoopenanysealedsectionsofthesystem!Thesesectionsdonotrequireanymaintenanceontheuser’spart.Disconnect the system from the power supply connected to theprinterbeforeperformingworkrequiringtheremovalorreplacementofcomponents.Use appropriate tools for any work on electrical and pneumaticcomponents.Donotusepointedorsharpobjectswhenreplacingthethermalprinthead.Werecommendmaintenanceworktobecarriedoutonlybystaffwhohave received technical training fromMarkem-Imaje andwearingpersonal protective equipment (safety shoes, glasses, gloves...).AnymaintenanceworknotdescribedinthismanualmustbecarriedoutbyMarkem-Imajetechnicians.

■ Installation requirementsInstallation must be performed without fail by a Markem-Imajetechnicians team. Any person modifying the installation shall bewhollyliableforsuchmodification.The printer must be installed in accordance with applicablerequirements.TheModel5200canhaveuptotwoprintheads.TheModel5400canhaveuptofourprintheads.

Determinealocationfortheprinterthat:• Providesaccesstothefrontandrearoftheenclosure,includingaminimumof15cm(6”)clearanceintherearforadequatecoolingventilation.

• Positionstheprinthead(s)within3m(10’)oftheenclosure.• Providessturdy,levelfloorspace.• Meetsenvironmentalandelectricalspecifications.

Ensuretheelectricalrequirementsaresatisfied:• Theprintermustbeconnectedtoa50–60Hz,single-phase

ACpowersupplyelectricitynetwork,1450Wmaximum(Model5200)or2530Wmaximum(Model5400),withearthgroundusingthecablesuppliedwiththeprinter.

• TheenduserisresponsibleforsupplyinganappropriateplugorwiringtoaterminalblockontheACpowercord.

• TheACvoltageconfigurationmustbeverifiedorchangedtomatchtheenduser’sACvoltageservice.
