College at a glanceAWH Engineering College (AEC), established in 2001, is a self financing engineering college managed by Association for Welfare of Handicapped (AWH), Kozhikode, Kerala. It is affiliated to the University of Calicut and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). AWH Engineering College is a co-educational institution established with the sole purpose of honoring engineers of excellent qualities.

The AEC is dedicated to helping students to learn and develop their skills and potential. Our faculty is committed to quality teaching and enhanced learning for students, preparing them for subsequent careers in professions and public services.

The college is located in a serene sprawling and evergreen campus spread over an area of 50 acres near Kuttikattoor. It is 26 kms away from Calicut International Airport, Karipur, 12 kms from Kozhikode Corporation bus stand and 13 kms from Kozhikode railway station.

The historical city of Calicut is the hub for several educational institutions, including many prestigious engineering colleges, medical colleges, polytechnics, arts and science colleges, Indian Institute of Management (IIMK), National Institute of Technology (NITC) etc. Calicut is a beautiful coastal city known as the clean city of Kerala, the God's own Country.

AEC offers at present 4 year B.Tech in 6 branches and 3 year MCA program. Application for starting M.Tech program in Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Embedded System is already submitted to AICTE. Plans are made to start a full fledged MBA program too.

Computing Facilities

We have a well designed, state-of-the-art central computing centre. The facilities are arranged in such a way that students will be able to work comfortably for long hours. The total facilities available for students in terms of hardware comprise 550 systems with LCD monitors and printers. A wide collection of computer literature enables students to sharpen their skills in client server development environment.

The centres are enriched with exclusive software. Uninterrupted power supply is provided in these centres. All the departments and laboratories in the campus are connected through internet.

A dedicated leased line (1:1) @ 4 Mbps from Asianet Communications and 4 Mbps from Aircel Communications are provided through RF Link in the Campus.

Internet access is provided for both staff and students throughout the campus.

Campus Networking Hub (CNH)All the blocks in the campus are connected via OFC backbone to a central hub, which has high speed switches and routers. Also wireless WiFi Hot Spots created in the campus are connected to this hub. Structured cabling rules are strictly followed in building the campus network.

The college has a campus-wide networking and computing environment, comprising a vertical OFC backbone of 2 Gbps and horizontal UTP CATS cabling of 100 Mbps capacity. The advanced networking and multimedia lab has a capacity of 50 multimedia workstations, with dedicated IBM servers exclusively for LINUX/WINDOWS environments. The programming Lab has 42 High End IBM workstations and 2 Midrange IBM servers. MCA Lab has the latest Thin Client Computer environment with LINUX/WINDOWS. It has 30 terminals. Common computing centre is equipped with Pentium based terminals on heterogeneous platform. The labs are backed up with high efficient GE/Libert/emersion UPS of 6/10KVA, as a redundant measure against power failure.

A fully automated modern Library & Information Centre (LIC) is on its way to becoming an outstanding learning resource centre catering to the ever growing and uncompromising information and intellectual requirements of the students and faculty members. The collection of the library includes books, journals, reports, standards and patents in the field of Science and Technology. The LIC has acquired several thousands of books, national and international print journals, & CD ROMs etc...

The E-LEARNING CENTRE (ELC) subscribes to over 5000 electronic resources along with 200 full-text journals accessible due to INDEST subscription. ELC provides a cess to DELNET also.

The library offers services such as reference service, user guidance service, circulation service including inter library loan and document delivery service, e-mail alert service, bibliographic service, reprographic service, higher education data bank etc. Current awareness service is also provided. Alumni book bank is started functioning in 2007 with the financial support of AEC Alumni Association.

The world is passing through an explosion in information technology. The rapid dissemination of information generated in the technological development is made possible by the advance in Information Technology. Information Technology can be termed as the fastest growing industry today. The scope of Information Technology has grown considerably with the new trends in Embedded Technology, Wireless Networking, Blue Tooth, Pattern Recognition, E-Commerce and M-Commerce, Information Security and Health Care IT. The sudden boom in the internet usage and mobile communication has also resulted in heavy demand for qualified IT professional.

The impact of IT is so momentous that it is characterized as the second industrial revolution. It is the chief determinant of the progress of the nation, communities and individuals. The general misconception is that IT means computers. The fact is that IT is a union of many fields in which computers is only a part.
