ICE Genesis#16 MBR treatment for WastewaterThe Genesis#16 was sponsored by Suez with support from Black & Veatch in providing their café facility for conducting the lecture. The event was webcast live through Zoom.

The EventSuez has recently acquired various businesses of General Electric (GE) within the Water sector. This includes a significant range of products in the Wastewater membrane technologies. One such product range includes the MBR (Membrane Bio Reactors) technology called ZeeWeed and others.

The presentation was delivered by experts from Suez and PureWater technologies (Suez’s distributors) viz Mr Smit Nimbarte and Ms Mittal Sheta respectively. The team provided a comparison of the MBR technology with the conventional ASP (Aeration process) and SBR technologies, the impact of implementation of MBR vis-à-vis conventional processes on the footprint of the plant, the resulting cost impact (both Capex and Opex), O&M aspects of the MBR plant and the throughput and quality impact of the treatment process.

They also run few videos that demonstrated the installation of plant and its operating methodology.

The audience had many questions to which the speakers provided satisfactory answers.

ConclusionThe session concluded with the audience understanding the following –

1) Pollution norms have become stringent in India, thereby requiring higher treatment quality of Wastewater and industrial effluent.

2) Treatment from MBR process provide better opportunity for recycle and reuse of wastewater, again an area receiving a lot of interest from the Govt of India. With industries constrained to acquire treated water from conventional sources in India, MBR provides opportunity to make more water available for Water-based production industries.

The event was witnessed by a combination of live and virtual room audience. In total, 19 professionals attended the session.

Attendees listIntroduction of virtual room facility through Zoom has been a big enabler with professionals from multiple geographies being able to benefit from these events, thereby widening the outreach of ICE.
