INSTITUTION

St Thomas’ College is a government-aided college located in Thrissur City, the

Cultural Capital of Kerala, India. Founded by Mar Adolphus Edwin Medlycott

in 1889 as an educational institution, it was raised to the status of a Second

Grade College, affiliated to University of Madras, in 1919. In 2018-19, the

centenary celebrations of this landmark was inaugurated by the President of the

Republic of India. The college is the earliest First Grade College in the erstwhile

princely state of Cochin. It is also the first Catholic college in Kerala and is managed

by the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur. Mar Andrews Thazhath

is the Patron and Mar Tony Neelankavil is the Manager of the College now. The

college is graced by visits of Mahatma Gandhi, Presidents, scientists, scholars

and saints. The institution is the alma mater to three former chief ministers of the

state and many other ministers, sportsmen, businessmen, scientists and many others

who have contributed immensely to the nation.

The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut. It was conferred Autonomous

status in 2014 and was recognised as College with Potential for Excellence by

University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2016. The College was awarded A

Grade in its third cycle of accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation

Council (NAAC) after the peer team review in 2016. The College is financially

supported by the UGC, Department of Science and Technology (FIST scheme)

and Department of BioTechnology (Star college scheme) of Government of India.

St Thomas is also a mentor college for NAAC accreditation aspirant institutions

under Paramarsh scheme. College ranks 63rd at the national level in National

Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 of Government of India.

for admission to Science subjects (involving

practical) except BCA and BSc Computer

Science.

n All candidates qualified the Higher Secondary

Examination or its equivalent examinations held

up to and including the annual examinations of

the proceeding academic years are eligible for

admission.

GENERAL CONDITIONS• The admission of the students who obtained the

same index marks shall be decided first on the basis

of age and then by name in alphabetical order unless

otherwise specified. (U.O. No. GA1/A2/7226/

2000 dated : 04-05-2001).

• In the case of VHSE candidates for admissions to

BCom/BBA programmes and all other programmes

that come under Commerce and Management

faculty, the index marks shall be arrived at by taking

the marks of all the subjects except that of the marks

of Vocational practicals and Internship

Evaluation. (U.O. No. 2422/2015 dated :

11.03.2015).

• In the case of VHSE candidates for admissions to

BA programmes, index marks shall be arrived at

by taking the marks of all the papers except that of

• In the case of courses equivalent to Plus two of

Kerala HSE and have maximum marks or grades

not in line with that of Plus two of Kerala HSE, the

same will be normalized to the maximum marks of

Plus two of Kerala HSE and the rank list will be

prepared accordingly. (U.O. No. 2422/2015 dated

: 11.03.2015).

• For admissions to BA programmes, the existing

weightage of 25 marks shall be increased to 50, for

those who have studied the subject concerned

(mentioned in the present admission rule) in HSE

or equivalent. (U.O. No. 2422/2015 dated :

11.03.2015)

• A concession of 5% will be given to OBC/OEC

candidates. The SC/ST candidates need get only a

pass. 

B.Sc MATHEMATICS

Eligibility Candidates who have passed (Eligible

for Higher Studies) the HSE of the

Kerala State Board of Higher Second-

ary Examination or any other exami-

nation recognised as equivalent there

to with Mathematics group only are

eligible for admission to Bsc Math-

ematics.

B.Sc STATISTICS

Students of scheduled castes / tribes (SC/ST) or other backward com-

munities (OBC) are eligible for fee concession under various schemes of

the Government. Those eligible for fee concession must produce the com-

munity/income certificate of the parents from the Village Officer at the

time of admission. In case of discontinuation of programme, student should

refund the scholarship or concession amount received, before obtaining

the certificates.

BONUS MARKS

Applicants eligible for bonus marks should bring relevant certificates at

the time of interview for availing the bonus marks. Otherwise admission

will either be cancelled or rank list will be rearranged without considering

bonus marks.

Differently abled For degree & post graduate programmes, if the applicant is differently abled,

NCC If the applicant has obtained 75% attendance in NCC in the institution last

NSS If the applicant has put in 240 hours of National Service Scheme work in the

ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMESApplication for Ph.D. registration will be accepted by the research supervisors in consultation with the

Research Council as per the rules and regulations of the University of Calicut.

• In view of the verdict issued by the Hon’ble High

Court of Kerala, political activism and strikes are

strictly prohibited in the campus by the

Management. Strict action will be taken as per the

law against the students who involve in such

activities and related offences.

• Ragging, substance abuse, D.J. party and mobile

phones are banned in the campus.
