40th Anniversary of ISMM The 40th Anniversary of ISMM was celebrated with an International Seminar at the Waters Edge on 23rd Octo-ber. The Keynote Speaker was Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal - Governor of Central Bank - Sri Lanka. The other speakers were Mr. Dian Gomes - Group Director of MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., Mr. Svante Axelsson – President, International Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management - United Kingdom, Prof. Ajith de Alwis - Professor of Chemical & Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Prof. Uditha Liyanage – Chairman, Post Graduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenapura and Prof. Amal Kumarage - Senior Professor, Department of Transport & Logistics, University of Moratuwa, Former Chairman, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, Sri Lanka.

The Session Chairmen were Mr. V. Ganesh - Past President ISMM, AVM D. Dissanayake VSV - Past President ISMM, Mr. Chandima Jayatillake - Past President ISMM, Mr. M. Bandusena - Past President ISMM and Mr. Anil Ponweera - Vice President ISMM. The Seminar Chairman was Mr. I. G. Perera – Vice President ISMM.

A grand Banquet Dinner and Get-together was held on the 24th of October at the same venue with Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Hon. Senior Minister of International Monetary Co-operation of the Ministry of Finance & Planning as the Chief Guest and Mr. Svante Axelsson - President, International Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management – UK as the Guest of Honour. Over 200 ISMM members attended the Banquet Dinner. A 03 member delegation from the Indian Institute of Materials Management headed by the National President Mr. C. Subbakrishna also graced the occasion.

Awards of Appreciation were made to Founder Members / Past Presidents, Brig. G. R. Jayasinhe VSV (1976 – 1985) and Mr. Gerry Hidelaratchi (1990 – 1995) and also to Past Presidents Mr. M. Bandusena (1995 – 1998), Maj. Gen. T. Sivashanmugam USP (1998 – 2002), Mr. V. Ganesh (2002 – 2005), Air Vice Marshal Duncan Dissanayake VSV (2005 – 2008) and Mr. Chandima Jayatillake (2008 – 2011). A special long service award of appreciation was made to Ms. Devika Bibile – Assistant Training Manager for over 20 years of service rendered to ISMM.

International Award for President ISMM At the recently concluded Council Meeting of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management held in Toronto, Canada, Mr. Danesha Perera, President of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management was awarded the prestigious. “Garner Themion” Award 2012 for Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of the Profession of Purchasing and Supply Management.

In the 40 year history of ISMM, this is the first occasion a member of ISMM was honoured with this prestigious Award.

IFPSM Asia Pacific Council Meeting Toronto, Canada, September 2012 The Asia Pacific Council Meeting of the International Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management was held in Toronto, Canada in September 2012. Sri Lanka was represented by Mr. Danesha Perera - President ISMM. Mr. Gerry Hidelaratchi – Past President ISMM & Senior Delegate to IFPSM, Mr. Noel Wickremasinghe – Vice President ISMM and Mr. I. G. Perera – Vice President ISMM.

M.Sc in Supply Chain Management in collaboration with the University of Colombo A Draft MoU has been handed over to the Team at the University of Colombo. Final documentation will be presented to the Senate of the University of Colombo for consideration and approval.

Director / CEO – Colombo Dockyards PLC delivered the speech explaining the progress of Colombo Dockyard Ltd. He stressed the importance to develop the ship building industry in Sri Lanka considering the macro development plan implemented by the government.

Seminar on “Role of Customs” ISMM Training Centre has organized the 02nd Seminar for the benefit of its students in Graduate Diploma in Purchasing & Supply Chain Management on 20th May 2012 at ISMM Auditorium. The Resource Person was Dr. N. Goonewardana – Director General of Customs and he delivered a lecture “Role of Customs”.

Seminar on “Management Systems and Its importance to International Trade” ISMM conducted its 02nd Seminar under the Continuous Profes-sional Development / Education (CPD/CPE) program on 25th June 2012 at the Auditorium of Organisation of Professional Associations on “Management Systems and Its importance to International Trade” for its members and public. The Guest Speaker was Dr. Lalith Senaweera - Director General of Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) delivered the presentation and explained the importance of ISO standards.

Seminar on “Sustainable Waste Management Solutions as Competitive Edge for Industries in Sri Lanka” The 03rd Seminar for the benefit of the Students in Graduate Diploma in Purchasing & Supply Chain Management was held on 15th July 2012 at ISMM Auditorium. This seminar totally based on “Sustainable Waste Management Solutions as Competitive Edge for Industries in Sri Lanka”. Seminar on “The need to Monitor the Impact of Supply Chain Management on Projects” Under the Continuous Professional Development Programme ISMM Training Division has organized their 04th Seminar on “The Need to Monitor the Impact of Supply Chain management on Projects” for the GDPSCM Students on 23rd September 2012 at Western Province Aesthetic Resort. The Resource Person was Dr. Abhaya Attanayake – International Consultant.

Seminar on “Evolution of Supply Chain Management Function and What Changes are required in Supply Chain Professional”

The last Seminar for this year as well as the 05th Seminar for the benefit of ISMM’s GDPSCM Students was held 16th December 2012 at Western Province Aesthetic Resort. The Resource Person was Mr. Samitha Perera – Chief Executive Officer, CBL Foods International (Pvt) Ltd.. He spoke about “Evolution of Supply Chain Management Function and What Changes are required in Supply Chain Professional”.
