Dear colleagues,IRE SPIE Student Chapter again with you! This report focuses on our activities during 2012.

This year was not as simple as we wish, we had changed our plans several times, but we tried to do ourevents most useful for young scientists and students, assist them in professional development. Therewas a lot of events, a lot of emotions and impressions.

Our report has traditionally falls on the beginning of the year and the new season. We expectfrom this season new bright impressions and ideas and hope that due to support of SPIE our plansbecome true.

In turn, we want to wish you for this season to enjoy your work, and most importantly to seewhat great results it brings.

Sincerely yours President of IRE SPIE SC Sergii Poperezhai Mariia Pashchenko And collective of IRE SPIE SC

The SPIE Leaders Meeting & Photonics Europe 2012This year President of IRE SPIE Student Chapter was lucky to participate in the SPIE Leaders Meetingduring the conference Photonics Europe 2012, which held at Expo Meeting Center in Brussels, April15-20. Sergii Poperezhai presented our Chapter at special Poster session devoted to different studentChapters activities presentation. It was staggering experience. Several photos from Brussels you cansee below.

Annual SPIE Leaders Meeting was held in Brussels. This Leaders Meeting provided aninvaluable experience for the Student Chapters leaders. The information in the form of lectures, and inthe form of practical tasks in improvised groups was extremely useful. New contacts with the leadersof Student Chapters other countries and cities offer a wide horizon of perspectives, as well as allow tolearn from successful events. This meeting is the real lesson of successful leadership, and we thank toSPIE for this great opportunity.

IONS-NA4 2012, New York

The International OSA Network of Students (IONS) conference had its fourth iteration in New YorkCity in 2012,

as a collaboration between Columbia University and the City College of New York.

It was held on October 10-12 of the year 2012, directly preceding the OSA student leadershipconference (Oct. 14) and the Frontiers in Optics conference (Oct. 14-18), both held in nearbyRochester, New York.

Denis Laptev presented the report "The Optical and Electrical Solitonic Transmission Lines"
