Leading scientists

The laboratory of general hydrobiology.

The main project is long term monitoring on phyto- and zooplankton communities in Lake Baikal. Project started in 1946 year and still goes on with weekly sapling on same sites. Longest (68 years) field monitoring project in aquatic science.

The laboratory of aquatic toxicology

Ecotoxicological assessments and toxicity effects to lake Baikal fauna by different waste products from regional industry. The development of biological methods for the cleaning and reparation of fresh-water systems.

The Laboratory “Biological systems adaptation”

Focused on comparative study of physiological and biochemical mechanisms of environmental adaptation and stress tolerance in highly specialized endemic species from Lake Baikal and common Palearctic species.
