INSTITUT SENI BUDAYA (ISBI) BANDUNG is an art and culture institute located in South Bandung. It was inaugurated in 1968 as KORI (Konservatori Tari - Dance Conservatory). Two years after its inauguration, in 1970, the conservatory underwent a change of status and became ASTI (Indonesia Art Dance Academy). Then in 1995, it became STSI (Indonesia Art College), and finally in 2015 it was accredited as an institute of higher education. Students can major in dance, theatre, television and film, karawitan (traditional Javanese gamelan performance), ethno-study, bamboo music instruments, fashion, or the newly-established major of fine art and crafts which began in 2009. The fine art and crafts major includes sculpture and ceramics (started in 2010). ISBI offers exchange and collaboration programs with international lecturers and students. The campus environment is friendly and welcoming.

The Ceramic Studio focuses on teaching students various techniques and skills with ceramics as a medium. The program aims to produce graduates who can examine art and apply their knowledge to enhance their character and expand their aesthetic horizons. Moreover, it aims to equip students with the talents and skills to explore issues and express themselves, so they can actualize any aesthetic ideas, and reach maturity thus enabling them to produce high quality art works. The workspace is a 120 m2 non-air conditioned studio that can comfortably accommodate one to two artists.

Bandung is located on a plateau, surrounded by green mountains, but ISBI is located downhill and in the busy area, so it is very close to all modern conveniences. Temperature during the day is usually warm (25-330C), and cool at night (20-230C). Artist might want bring warm clothes. Daily languages used are Indonesian and Sundanese (local language). There is no communication, or language, barrier around campus, since the teachers and students speak English fluently. They can assist artists to communicate and interact with local residents, and there will be a liaison officer (LO) to accompany the artist. The campus environment is reasonably safe; students’ activities often last until late at night. Artists can use public transportation to travel around in Bandung. However, artists may want to consider renting a motorcycle or a car and be accompanied by a guide or LO, to travel to farther destinations.
