REMOVAL/INSTALL OF WINDOW REGULATOR (740-737) Honda Civic 1996–2000 General Tech Tips: Use painter’s tape rather than duct tape to secure window. It’s less likely to damage paint or leave sticky residue. A plastic pry tool is useful. It will not easily damage delicate trim like a screwdriver or metal pry bar. The replacement regulator should have a liberal amount of grease on slide area. If there is not much grease present, white lithium grease works well to lubricate the slide area. Aftermarket window tinting can cause the window to travel slower and put additional strain on the window regulator assembly. Window run channels should be cleaned and lubricated before installation of a new window regulator assembly. Silicone spray works well. PLEASE WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! REMOVAL/INSTALL OF WINDOW REGULATOR (740-737)Honda Civic 1996–2000

General Tech Tips:

• Use painter’s tape rather than duct tape to secure window. It’s less likely to damage paint or leave

sticky residue.

• A plastic pry tool is useful. It will not easily damage delicate trim like a screwdriver or metal pry bar.

• The replacement regulator should have a liberal amount of grease on slide area. If there is not much grease

present, white lithium grease works well to lubricate the slide area.

• Aftermarket window tinting can cause the window to travel slower and put additional strain on the window

regulator assembly.

• Window run channels should be cleaned and lubricated before installation of a new window regulator

assembly. Silicone spray works well.

Removal Instructions

STEP 1: Using your Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw located in the door handle cup. Then, remove the Phillips head screw located behind the upper inner door handle.

STEP 2: Using your non-marring pry tool, remove the inner door handle cup and window switch. Then, unplug the window switch harness and set the assemblyto the side.

STEP 3: Take your non-marring pry tool and gently remove the inner door handle that sits around the lock. Once you have removed it, remove the lock switch harness plug. Set the assembly to the side.

STEP 4: Remove the speaker cover using your non marring pry tool. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the 3 outer screws.

STEP 5: Using your non marring pry tool,pry the corner of the door panel off . Work your way around the door panel to release the panel clips.

STEP 6: Pull the panel off of the inner door skin.

STEP 7: Remove the speaker wire harness clip and set the door panel aside.

STEP 8: Using your Phillips screwdriver, remove the door panel bracketand set it aside.

STEP 9: Remove the vapor barrier from the inner door skin. Make sure to feed the wiring harness through the holes in the vapor barrier. You may need to pull some harness clips from the inner door skin.

STEP 10: Plug the window switch back in and make sure the window mount bolts are accessible through the door skin.

STEP 11: Disconnect the motor harness plug from the main door harness.

STEP 12: Unbolt the glass mounts from the regulator using a 10mm socket.

STEP 13: Remove the two 10mm regulator mount bolts. Pull the glass up to its highest position and secure the glass using a wedge.

STEP 14: Remove the four (4) 10mm motor mount bolts that run through the innerdoor skin.

STEP 15: Remove the regulator from the large hole in the inner door skin.

STEP 16: Remove the window lift motor attaching screws, to separate the motorfrom the regulator.

Installation Instructions

STEP 2: Insert the motor mounting boltsand tighten with a 10mm socket.

STEP 1: Using the window lift motor attaching screws, attach the motor to the new regulator. Then, feed the regulator assembly through the large holein the inner door skin.

STEP 5: Take out the glass wedge and start the 10mm bolts into the glass mounts. Then slip them on the regulator. Once set, tighten the 10mm bolts.

STEP 6: Plug the window switch back in and test the assembly. If everything is working properly, unplug the switch and set it aside.

STEP 7: Lay the vapor barrier back onto the inner door skin.

STEP 8: Reinstall the door panel brace using your Phillips screwdriver.

STEP 9: Plug the speaker harness back into the speaker. Test for proper connection.

STEP 10: Reinstall the door panel and make sure to feed any harnesses through the proper holes in the panel. Take careto reinstall any factory options you might have on the vehicle like tweetersor power mirror harnesses.

STEP 11: Reinstall the window switch and set it back into the door panel. Use your Phillips screwdriver to secure the door handle cup with the screw.

STEP 12: Install the three (3) screwsyou removed from the door panelaround the speaker.

STEP 13: Install the door handle, taking care to plug back in the door lock harness plug. Use your Phillips screwdriver to reinstall the screw you removed.
