Installing VM Remote Console

Go to the SY110 Resources page, click on the VMWare Remote Console software to download

Say “Yes” if it asks if you want to keep the file. Double-click the file to run the installer

Click next

Check the “I accept …” and click next

Click Next

Uncheck the two boxes and click next

IF it asks you if you want to allow this program to make changes say “yes”

Click Finish and go to the next step to download and Install the fix for using Flash with Chrome.

Go back to the Resources page and download the Chrome Flash Fix. It will ask you if want to keep this

file, click “keep”.

Next step is to enable hidden files and folders.

In the Search bar at the bottom, type “hidden files and folders”. Click the Show Hidden File and Folders

link at the top

Click the radio button for Hidden files and folders Click OK

Open up File Explorer and go to your “Downloads” folder and copy the file you just downloaded,

pepflashplayer.dll, by highlighting it and selecting “copy”.

Go to C:\Users\<your alpha>\App Data\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperFlash\27.0.0.170.

Find the file named pepflashplayer.dll, highlight and right-click and choose rename. Name it

pepflashplayer.old.

Then paste the new version pepflashplayer.dll that you just copied, by right-clicking and selecting

“paste”.

Close File Explorer and open Chrome to test the virtual environment

Testing the Virtual Environment

To Access the Virtual Environment go to: https://chessie.cs.usna.edu/vsphere-client/

If you see this screen click “Advanced”

Click Proceed to chessie.cs.usna.edu

If you see a message that you need to have flash 11.5 or higher or that the plugin was blocked, open a

new tab and go to:

chrome://settings/

Click advanced

Click Content Settings

Click Flash

Make sure Allow sites to run flash and ask first are enabled (slider will be to the right and blue). Under

Allow click “Add” and put the URL “chessie.cs.usna.edu” in there.

Close that tab and go back to the chessie.cs.usna.edu tab. When it asks you to log in, enter:

User: MIXXXStudent@vsphere.local (where XXX is your room number) Pass: Cyber1

Once you log in, you should see the opening page. If you see this then you have successfully installed

the VMware vSphere Web Client software.
