The use of a three digit numbering system allows 64 play calls using only four different protections, four formations and four route concepts, all of which have directional calls as well. From this three digit concept, tags can be added at the end of each to give a particular receiver or set of receivers a route change based on defensive schemes, i.e. “962 Razor”
